Softball-Slowpitch
Yard Dawgs

The Yard Dawgs started in March as a Sanctioned "B" class tournament team with 15 players and a goal to be the "Best" that they could by playing the "Best" in the South Eastern region of the US. They have played "Up" to the challenge all year long. The team has one more tournament in September(20-22) - ASA East Nationals in Athens, Tennessee. With a tournament win the team would then be invited to compete at the "ASA USA Championship" that will be held in October.

The team has compiled a great record along a hard and rocky road, first losing JoAnn Bradshaw(pitcher) in June to a shoulder injury. The team adjusted without skipping a beat and continued to perform like a "well oiled machine". The Yard Dawgs compiled a record of 37-11 going into the month of July, winning 4 tournaments(3 were undefeated) and placing in all.

The fourth of July weekend had fireworks in the air and a "total team melt down" in Little Rock, Arkansas. Coming home with a 1-2 tourney and wondering what happened to the "Yard Dawgs". The team finished the regular tournament season with a 38-13 record.

It was time for the State tournaments to begin and everyone stepped up to the plate, dug in and showed the State of Georgia what the Yard Dawgs were really made of. The 'Dawgs lose Debbie Grist for a month with injuries to her shoulder and arm due to a car accident in between the the two state tournaments. The team makes a few adjustments and The Yard Dawgs win both ISA "B" State and USSSA "A" State tournaments going undefeated with a combine 8-0 record in August.

The team continues to work hard and wins the ISA World Warm-Up in Cumming, Ga. and then takes the ISA "Major" World Tourney "Undefeated" against several strong teams. Again the team is hampered with the loss of Stacy Stanfield, breaking her hand making the extra effort in the outfield diving for a ball at the World Tournament.

The team is ranked 3rd in the Nation as a "B" team in USSSA National rankings and with a few faces in different places, the Yard Dawgs travel to Florida for the teams first ever appearance in a National "A" tournament. The team plays against the best of the best and comes home with 5th place out of 23 teams.

The Yard Dawgs have compiled a record of 59-16 with a 787 winning percentage. Scoring 885 runs and allowing only 635 to cross the plate against them.

Every player on this team has made an impact on the success of the "Yard Dawgs" and it has been a total team effort all year long.
