Zebras Learn Tough Lesson in Final Game
The 5th Grade White Zebras finished their season with an unusually bitter ending. The Zebras "lost" to the Owasso Rams 5th Grade Red on not one, but two horrific officiating calls. The Zebras had controlled the Rams for most of the game, but gave up a touchdown late in the game on a nearly busted pass play. The Zebras were coming back, marching down the field when we fumbled inside the "red zone". Subsequent to the fumble, the Rams were sacked in their own end zone. In the excitement of the moment, one of our players jumped up and cheered "safety", only to have an INFC official tell him to "shut up", as he moved the ball outside of the end zone. The second bad call came in overtime. The Owasso quarterback, about to be sacked for a 15 plus yard loss, threw the football into the flats where there were no eligible receivers. The backfield official threw his flag only to have another official come talk to him, after which, he withdrew his flag. In overtime, where the game was lost on yardage (1 yard), this is a back-breaking mistake for an official to make, especially considering it was a quarter-final game. It is inexcusable that they missed not one, but two crucial calls.
You all played well, you played good enough to win and advance to the semi-finals. Sometimes, in sports, just like in life, things happen that are out of your control. The only thing you can do is keep your head up and learn from it. We had opportunities earlier in the game that would have made a difference in the outcome. In the future take control of the game, don't leave yourself in a position where a bad call or two can take your game from you.
We outscored our opponents 116 to 42 during the Post-Season Tournament. During the regular season, the Zebras scored 185 while only giving up 54 points. The overall combined point spread for the year, was 301 points scored, while holding their opponents to 96 points. Our defense held 6 of their 15 opponents scoreless this year. The overall win/loss record for this year was 10 wins and 5 losses (.667). Among our losses were to the 2007 INFC semi-finalists and two previous years Champion, Bixby Red. Another loss came to 2007’s INFC Runner-up Champion, Catoosa. It's been speculated on the INFC message board that with the winners from the Post Season and the Playoffs coming from Division 2, that it must be the toughest division. It is true that the top team in the 5th Grade came from Division 2, but that's as far as that reasoning goes. The person that made these comments didn't have to play two of the Final Four INFC Championship teams for their Conference games. You had some very tough teams in your division, Zebras.
We are proud of you Zebras!

Zebra Streak Continues
The Zebra win streak is now at five. The Zebras took on the South Tulsa "Black" Raiders at their final home game of the 2007 season. The winless Raiders appeared to be ready for a battle as the game got underway. By the end of the first quarter the Zebras had fought off the Raider surge and were enroute to the 35+ to 0 victory. Great job Zebras, Stay focused, it's now postseason time.

Zebras Continue to Build Steam
For the third week in a row the Zebra White Defense held their opponent scoreless. The Zebras defeated Coweta Black 35 - 0. The only threat of the game came after the Zebras lost the opening kick-off to an onside Tiger kick. Coweta easily moved the ball up the field the first few plays. The Zebra defense adjusted, and managed to halt the early Tiger drive. Four different Zebra Offenders put the football across the goal-line while the O-line cleared the way to put the points on the board. The Zebra momentum is building steam for the march into the post-season. Stay focused and work hard Zebras, the post-season is nearly upon us. It's no shame to not make the playoffs, unless you don't leave it all on the field. You've played with everyone you've played this year with only one exception, and I believe the off and on-again-timing/lack of opponent players showing up, had a lot to do with the lopsidedness of that one. Timing is crucial Zebras, it's time for you to shine.
Great job today Zebras
keep building momentum!

Zebras on the Rebound
After losing three weeks in a row, and with the toughest part of our schedule behind us, the Zebras now appear to be in the rebound mode. The Zebras have now won three in a row with victories over Grove, Pryor Gold, and Union Silver for a combined score of 64 to 6. There's no doubt that the Zebra's White schedule was most likely one of, if not the toughest opening schedules in the Conference. You won't find a collegiate program in the country that will intentionally schedule three of their first four games like we found ourselves in. We played our toughest division opponents three weeks in a row.
We've played well against some competition that is below what we have been seeing. Until this week, we haven't had to play our best to win. This week was a little tougher and we rose to the occasion. Don't take the easier part of our schedule lightly. We must keep focused to finish strong and go into the Post Season Tournament strong. If we play tough and keep our focus, we will be a strong contender in the Post Season. If we don't, the tournament won't last long for us. It takes 11 boys who want to play, to win a football game. Don't be the one to let your team down.
Stay Focused Zebras!

Is It In You?
 | | | Who wants to play football? Count the jerseys and you'll have the answer. |
The Zebras faced off this week with the Jenks Trojans 5th Grade Black in what should have been the battle for Division 1's 3rd Place. It was everything but a battle. The effortless Zebras showed no emotion in the 8 - 0 loss in what more than likely will be the end of the Zebras' playoff hopes. There are a lot of things that went wrong in this game. The key factor in this and most of our games is that we don't have 11 players that will give 100% effort on every down from start to finish. Nobody is asking for more than what you have to give, we just want all of what you've got, for 32 minutes. The photo to the right tells it all, there are 8 maroon jerseys around the football, and only 2 white jerseys. How bad do you want it?

5th Grade White Pride!
 | | | click on photo for more pix | |
One week ago we witnessed one of the worst performances ever by this team. This week we saw the exact opposite, in what was one of the best efforts ever from this group. The Zebras started off by scoring on the first drive of the game to lead the Bixby 5th Grade Red 6 - 0. Bixby came back to tie and then go ahead with the point after. The Zebras continued to fight until the final buzzer with the Spartans coming out on top 20 - 12 for the win.
Awesome job Zebras, Now, You Know what you're capable of!(We've known it all along). That was the kind of effort we want to see every week!

Zebra "Home" Opener...Picture Says It All!
 | | | | Click image to view more photos |
The Zebras home opener with Catoosa was originally scheduled for 1:00pm at Lantow Field. As a result of the rain, the game was cancelled Saturday morning and then around noon, it was rescheduled for 3:00pm at Verdigris. The Zebra performance was considerably subpar for this team. The Zebras hung with the Indians for about a quarter and then midway through the second quarter seemed to lose their drive. Catoosa has a very solid team and would have been a tough match had we been playing our best football....With the effort we displayed, it was a cake-walk for the Indians. Zebras you have to search within your heart and find out what you are made of. It will be another ugly week next week if you don't play with more pride and determination against Bixby than you showed this week.
Pain is Temporary....Pride is Forever!

Zebras Tame the Tigers in Season Opener
 | | | Click on image to view more game photos | |
The 5th Grade White traveled to Broken Arrow's Nienhuis Park for the season opener with Broken Arrow White. The Zebra's defense wasn't in the mood however, to allow the Tigers any celebrations for their home opener. Our defense didn't allow any fourth down conversions for the entire first half and managed to keep the Tigers out of the end zone for all four quarters. The Zebra offense, equally adept, scored on the second down of their first possession, setting the tempo for the rest of the game. The Zebras scored 20 of their 26 points in the first half. Great job Zebras, you executed very well today. We only had one penalty and manged to play four quarters without a turnover. That's something to be proud of in the first game of the season!
AWESOME JOB ZEBRAS!
