White Prevails Over Jenks Maroon
The Claremore 6th Grade White hosted the "Maroon Platoon" of Jenks, in the match for 4th place in our division. Both teams entered the contest with 2 and 2 records. Jenks held the 4th position as a result of placement points with their 0 point to the Zebras' -3. The Zebras won the coin toss and elected to defer. The Zebra "D" continues to be the heart and soul of the team and today proved no difference. Our defense held them on their first posession forcing the punt. The offense wasted no time, marching the ball down the field for the touchdown on our first possession. The Zebras scored once again just before half while holding the Trojans scoreless. The second half our defense still controlled the Trojans, while our offense struggled to find the endzone. Midway through the 4th quarter one of our players, Ryan Henson, was injured when he jammed his arm severely after he had pulled to block a defender. The injury was originally believed to be a broken arm and an ambulance was summoned to the field. The Zebras continued to battle, with the future status of their teammate unknown to them. The following play, the Zebras broke loose for a touchdown run, only to have it called back on an illegal block. Final Score Zebras 14, Trojans 0.
The 6th Grade White showed a lot of heart and determination in this game. When a teammate leaves the field in an ambulance, it's an eye-opening experience. We played very well, both before and after the injury. We are most thankful that Ryan was not seriously hurt and that he is able to continue to play with us the remainder of the season.
You are now in 4th place with a 3-2 record and games against 3 of the top team teams in our division behind us. We must continue to play hard and focus on each game. Do not look past any team. Any of the the teams left can defeat you if you look past them.
Great Game Zebras!
WE ARE THANKFUL YOU ARE OK RYAN!

Zebras Battle Hard, Fall to Catoosa
The 6th Grade White traveled to Catoosa today for a 5:30pm match up with the Catoosa Indians. The Indians are the current Division 2 leaders as well as the 2007 INFC Championship Runners-up. The Zebras fully expected a very physical football game and Catoosa’s hard hitting did not let them down. What was unexpected was the defensive battle that the Zebra fans got to witness. The White Team managed to keep the Indians out of the end zone during the first half. It’s hard to celebrate a loss, but the effort of this Zebra team was, without a doubt, the best of the year for them. The Indians have scored the maximum allowable, 35 points, in each of their 3 previous games while allowing no touchdowns to date. We are very proud of your performance Zebras, you have come a long way since the preseason scrimmages and we expect to see more out of you as the season progresses. Congratulations to Catoosa, not only for your win, but also for the sportsmanship and tough, clean football that you play! Good luck with your “Unfinished Business” Indians!
GREAT EFFORT ZEBRAS!

White Brown? Outlasts Pioneers in Mudbog
The 6th Grade White team hosted the Stillwater "Blue" Pioneers at our "home" Verdigris practice facility. Today's game, once again proved that defense is the heart of the Zebra team. Our defense appeared to control the Pioneer offense for the entire game. Neither of the Pioneer touchdowns came against the Zebra defense. The Pioneers first scored on a kickoff return in the final seconds of the first half. The second Stillwater touchdown was against our Zebra offense, when the Pioneers stripped the ball from a Zebra running back and returned it all the way. Despite the effort from our defense, our errors nearly cost us the game. The game was still up for grabs as the clock wound down in the second half. A Zebra interception and return to the 3 yard line, followed by a Claremore touchdown proved to be the difference in the game. This game should not have come down to the final seconds. Our errors were the catalysts that kept them in the game. Final score Zebras 19, Pioneers 12.
It was the Zebra defense, that once again showed the heart and determination of this team. The offensive effort was less than admirable. The defense cannot continue to contribute 90% of our total team effort. You have to play hard on both sides of the football to consistently win games. Our errors were very costly today. We turned the ball over too many times and are very lucky to have escaped with the win. We also had a touchdown called back, with a block-in-the-back 10 or 15 yards behind the football, after the ball was already in the end zone.
WE HAVE TO PLAY HARDER AND SMARTER!

White Takes Union Red in Defensive Battle
The Zebras travelled to Union-Tuttle Stadium in Tulsa for a 6:30pm matchup with the Union "Red" Redskins. Union Tuttle Stadium is home to the 6A perennial powerhouse, Union Redskins. The game proved to be just as exciting as the enthusiasm of playing in such an awesome facility. It was a defensive battle from start to finish that could have very easily gone either way. The Zebras held off the Redskins for the 6-0 win
Although it was only the second game of the season, the effort put forth was more on par for what we are used to seeing from this team. If we had seen the same effort in game one against the "Silver" Redskins, there's no doubt we would be 2-0 right now.
Keep up the good work Zebras!

Zebras Fall in Season Opener
The 6th Grade Zebras hosted Union Silver in it's season "home" opener at Verdigris' Practice Field. It was the 3rd time for the two teams to meet with the Zebras coming out on top twice last season. The Redskins came ready to avenge those losses. The Redskins didn't waste any time, scoring on their first possesion. The "silver lining" of the game for the Zebras was a goal line stand just before half time. The Redskins had 1st and goal with the clock winding down and the Zebra defense defended their ground.
Our defense made some mental errors that proved costly in this game. Those errors could very easily be blamed on early season "hiccups". Take away a couple of plays and our defense played a pretty good football game.
Our offense has struggled since the scrimmages. It won't matter what the defense does if we don't elevate our offensive game. It takes 11 guys doing their job to put points on the board.
If your standing there, doing nothing, more than likely the guy you were supposed to stop is doing his job!
