We wish the new team best wishes to continue the mission of promoting athletics to its  Lithuanian youth!

As previously announced, the 2013 LAUNA Juniors Basketball Tournament will be held May 4-5th weekend in Lemont, IL. Chicago “Lituanica” will be hosting this year’s tournament. Tournament directors will be Aurimas Matulevicius and Donatas Siliunas.

Tournament will include both Men’s ( A and B class) basketball, Women’s basketball, Junior’s basketball, volleyball, and table tennis.

Tournament will include both boys and girls in the following classes: A (born 1994-1996), B (born 1997-1998), C (1999-2000), D (2001-2002), E (2003-2004) and F “Molecules” (born 2005 or younger). As in years past, the molecules class and possibly E class will be coed.

We invite all LAUNA clubs who have completed their 2013 LAUNA registration to participate in this classic event. It is important to complete the preliminary registration by March 20th, 2012 . After that date more detailed information on tournament format, team registration fees, etc. will be shared with the participating clubs.

Zaibas intends to send the following the teams to this year’s LAUNA tournament:

Basketball: Men’s B (1), Boys C, Boys D, Girls D, Boys/Girls E, Molecules (Class F)

Volleyball: Mens, Women’s, Coed

 Congrats to legendary Zaibas Coach - Clifford Yanosko for becoming the newest inductee into the Zaibas Hall of Fame, Class of 2013!

This will be Coach Cliff's 20th anniversary of coaching Zaibas Juniors teams in the annual North American Lithuanian Juniors Basketball Tournament. He has coached for 20 seasons, boys and girls, teens and molecules. Throughout the years his methods were consistent and effective. Stressing the basic fundamentals and skills of the game before starting any scrimmages. His teams were always disciplined and well coached consistently vying for the championship year in and year out.  Recently, his  girls D team earned him his second GOLD  medal of his career in last year's event. No small task when going up against cities like Toronto and Chicago every year!  He has never missed a juniors tournament which is an incredible feat in and of itself. He has served on the Zaibas Executive Board for many of those years. He unselfishly accepts any coaching assignment given to him. He has earned the nickname of our "Go To Guy". Admired and respected by his peers, opponents and most importantly generations of Zaibas Juniors!
