Wow! What a season!!!!!!! I think this season was one that filled with many accomplishments that deserves being recognized:
I could go on and on about the success of the 18u Teams this year, but here are some of the highlights:
It all started with a dramatic Game 5 of the Championship where Astro defeated Dave Sugar 2-1 in a great game. Then Astro Falcons win the Connie Mack State Championship with Rondinelli being the Runner-Up. This is the 1st time in Connie Mack Tournament history that a local team has made it to the Championship for three years in a row (Rondinelli). It also makes history that a Manager (Andy Timko) wins the Tournament in Back-to-Back years with two different organizations. It didn't stop there for Astro, they battled through a tough CABA field to make it to the Championship of the World Series as the only undefeated left. They were ousted by a very good Oakland Bulldogs team in the Championship to finish as Runners-Up. After the CABA, Astro also won their pool in the NABF World Series and made it to the Final Four before being ousted by the defending champions, Houston Raiders.
Sam Pitzulo Homes went through the Palomino Region to claim the Championship and move on to the tough Palomino Zone. They were beat in the semi-finals by a team from New York.
Dave Sugar took the bid to the Palomino Zone and was a few hits shy from getting their trip to California. Dave Sugar lost to in the Championship to Lynhaven, Virginia by one run and previously lost to them by one run also.
Roth Brothers was able to make it to the Semi-Finals of the NABF Regional, but eventually lost to the Lincoln Park Rails from Michigan.
In the 16u league Rondinelli, Livi Steel, and Astro Falcons took part in the tough NABF Regional and Astro Falcons and Action Physical competed in the Colt Regional.
The 14u league (our 1st year) had some tremendous accomplishments:
Action Physical went 22-2 in the Regular Season to be the Regular Season Champions. The Ohio Glaciers defeated Astro Falcons in the Championship to get their ticket punched for Lynchburg, Virginia. Action Physical won the NABF Regional to join the Ohio Glaciers in Virginia. Action made it to the semi-finals, while the Ohio Glaciers had to battle in a pool that produced the eventual Champion and Runners-Up.
Two all-star teams were then put together to compete in the Host Area Satellites. Our "A" team went undefeated and claim the championship in Mount Lebanon, which punched their ticket to the Host Area Championships in McCandless, PA. This team stayed undefeated and really started to come together and won the Host Area Championship and a trip to the Pony World Series in Washington, PA starting this Friday, August 12th. The outstanding work by Paul Hammond, Tod Thurber, and Rob Fuller should not go unnoticed. This is something these 14 year olds will be talking about for years to come. They are opening up on Friday Night in the Feature game at 8:00pm against Mexico. What an accomplishment!
