Basic Principles of Defense
Team and Individual defense is a part of practice that is oft times overlooked, particularly at the younger ages where the more athletic players typically strip the ball from the less mature players by sheer brute force. But as the players all mature, and the athletic gap closes, those children who have learned the team and individual concepts of defense, will have an advantage over those who have survived on athletic ability alone.

Coaching Philosophy
A coach can be many things to many different people. A coach is a teacher, a mentor, a role model, sometimes a friend and confidant. Most of all though a coach must be positive.

Characteristics of Various Age Goups
This manual is written for coaches who may be coaching all different age groups. As such it is important to realize the different characteristics of the players (and the parents) at various age levels.
This section includes typical coaching rationales and what to expect as a coach as age progresses from Under 6 to Under 12. It is by no means comprehensive and by no means a Bible. Every coaching experience is unique. Please use this as a guideline as to what to expect.
The genesis of this portion of the site is from Jeff Pills NHSA website. Using Jeff's "expectations" as a guideline, I have refined and added to it some of what I have learned over the years as well as added tid bits from other coaches around the country.
But make no mistake, the idea for this section came from Jeff.
Jeff is a member of the eteamz coaching staff. He holds a National "A" license and is a national staff coach for US Soccer.
My thanks to Jeff for his hard work in developing the initial idea for this section.Characteristics
