York Ice Hockey Club: YIHC Code Of Conduct
York Ice Hockey Club

YIHC CODE OF CONDUCT

York Ice Hockey Club expects its coaches, parents and players will conduct themselves to the highest degree possible because they represent themselves, their team, their coach, their club and their city.  The guiding principle in the code of conduct will be the upholding of sportsmanship, fair play, and appropriate conduct of players and coaches.  Appropriate conduct shall be defined as, “conduct befitting a responsible and prudent individual”.  The need to win shall never take precedence over the above stated principle.  Parents, please keep in mind that our coaches, board members, team reps, etc. are volunteers and donate a considerable amount of time to the club and your child. Every member of the club has the same opportunity to volunteer their time. Refrain from discussing your negative thoughts involving the game, coach, other players, club, etc. in front of children involved in the program. It could instill negative thoughts and affect their enthusiasm on and off the ice. This is for the kids; do not try to live vicariously through your children. If you do have a concern or feel you have something to contribute, please contact your coach, team rep or a member of the board in the appropriate manner.  Your input is always welcome, and will be taken seriously if it is presented in a professional and courteous manner.

Other examples of behaviors that, if reported, will constitute disciplinary action by the Disciplinary Committee include, but are not limited to the following.

  1. Making physical contact off the ice with any player, coach, official, league representative, arena personnel, or spectator.

  2. Taunting or threatening any player, coach, official, league representative, arena personnel, or spectator.

  3. Inappropriately challenging a player, coach, league representative, arena personnel, or spectator.

  4. The throwing of any object onto the ice, into the player area, or at another individual.

  5. Inappropriate/unsportsmanlike conduct.

  6. Using profane and/or vulgar language or mannerisms.

  7. Theft, defacement or damage of property, including but not limited to that of other players, or the property of hotels/motels, restaurants, dressing/locker rooms, and rink facilities.

  8. Being involved in any activity that would warrant the summoning of law enforcement officials.

  9. The use of alcohol or illegal drugs by players of any kind at any time or place.  This policy includes non hockey related activities as well.
Any other conduct that is not in compliance with the beliefs of the YIHC Code of Conduct, or the USA Hockey Code of Conduct.

The Disciplinary Committee may, in its power fine, suspend, or expel players, coaches, parents, or representatives as it sees fit.  Any person suspended or expelled from YIHC activities will not receive any compensatory monies.

YIHC hopes that parents and fans will conduct themselves in a proper manner while attending all practices and games.  Any incident that jeopardizes this policy will be subject to inquiry by the Disciplinary Committee.  Regardless of the behavior of visiting fans, as adults we must control our emotions and refrain from confronting rude and obnoxious fans. We must set the standards.

If a parent has an issue with a coach, it must be resolved in a professional manner and shall not be discussed in the presence of any players in the youth hockey program. Coaching issues shall not be addressed 12 hours prior to, or 24 hours after a game or practice. Allow cooler heads to prevail.  Failure to comply with the above stated policies will result in disciplinary action by the Disciplinary Committee.
