yboa alabama: WHY PLAY YBOA?
Monday, January 12Top Five Reasons to play YBOA ALABAMA!
1. WE PUT THE KIDS FIRST - We want this to be a great experience for the Kids, Coach's, and Parents. Games times will be scheduled per a childs age (no 10:30 pm tip-off's). Abusive parents/coach's will not be accepted! Offensive language by a coach or player will be addressed.
2. HIGH SCHOOL REGULATION GAMES - We run 6, 7, and 8 minute quarters, based on age. We stop the ball on all dead balls. The only time the clock will run, is if a team is up by 30+ points. WE WILL NOT PLAY 2 HALFS - NO RUNNING CLOCKS!
3. THE BEST RUN TOURNAMENTS IN ALABAMA - I have over 10 years experience as a "YBOA" coach and know what you as a coach is looking for. We strive to have all teams "show up", "Games on time" and "Quality Referee's" (2 out of 3 isn't bad..haha). We TRY to honor all scheduling requests. This is very important to me and I will do what I can to meet your request. We give Trophies to the first and second place team and engraved medals to each of those players. We also take the time to annouce the the top two teams and each of the players to half court to receive their reward, instead of "handing" them a bag of medals. It takes a little time, but again, its about the KIDS.
4. AFFORDABLE - Most invitational tournaments will range from $200 - $225, with the exception of a Regional Event or State Championship. We offer the "the more you play, the less you pay" program. If your dedicated to YBOA, we want to return the favor. We know that a $25.00 discount here and there can help you as a team or a coach possibly play in another tournament. We play in the best gyms we can get and can afford to keep the entry fee where it is.
5. WE PUT THE KIDS FIRST - This is worth repeating. If it were not for the countless coaches, parents, friends and family, none of these young men would get this opportunity. We all come from different back grounds, different parts of the state and we all come together for the greatest sport there is...Basketball!
A Coach told me last May that he was going to bring his team to the Gulf Shores tournament because they had never seen the OCEAN. He ended up paying for most of that trip to give those kids that opportunity. On that particular weekend, those kids may not remember if they won or lost, but they will not forget that trip.
Again....I salute all you coaches and parents for giving these kids the opportunity to explore life through the world of baskeball.
Keep up the fight!
