Wichita Youth Hockey Association: Welcome

The Wichita Youth Hockey Association is holding try-outs for Travel Teams for the 2013 – 2014 season. 

WYHA is looking to field teams at the Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam and High School Levels.   The Squirts, Pee Wees and Bantams will play a number of friendship games and participate in tournaments at a suitable level of play as determined by the Head Coach..  The High School Junior Varsity & Varsity teams will play in the Mid-America High School Hockey League.  

Travel Team Try-out dates and information are listed below:

·         Try-out fee is $35.00 per player

·         Participants must be registered and active with USA Hockey prior to stepping on the ice.   If  your player was registered for the 2012-13  that is acceptable but  registration for the 2013-2014 season in now available at www.usahockey.com  and  you are encouraged to register for the new season.

·         Participants must attend at least 2 of the 3 try-outs in order to be considered for selection.  In the event that your child cannot attend the required sessions please contact the Dean of Coaches immediately so that an independent evaluation can take place. 

Squirts: ’03 & ’04 Birth Year , Pee Wee: ’01 & ’02 Birth Year ,  Bantam:  ’99 & ’00 Birth Year

High School:  Must be a High School Student .  Bantam aged players that are in High School may try-out for both Bantam and High School team with no extra fees.

 Try-outs will consist of skill evaluation drills and may include a scrimmage.  Players will be evaluated by an independent evaluators selected by the Dean of Coaches.  Once the try-outs are complete each player will be ranked.  Rankings will be kept confidential but will be shared with the Head Coaches.  Head Coaches will have the final say in their roster.

Travel teams will play a more competitive level of hockey through friendship games and/or tournaments.   It requires travel outside of Wichita and can require travel on holiday weekends.   The commitment to play travel is much greater than that of house league and in order for the travel teams to be successful 100% commitment is expected.

Please note that past participation on a travel team does not guarantee a spot on this season’s team.  All players must try-out and earn their spot each year.
