Former Clipper Willie Gabay 15th Round Draft for Tampa Bay Rays

Congratulations to Former Clipper Willie Gabay (09')

On June 5, 2012, former Clipper Willie Gabay was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays, 15th round, in the MLB first year player draft. Willie is from Mahopac, NY and has a unique story since he never made the varsity team at Mahopac HS and just pitched for the Clippers. Willie will join Clippers winter pitching coach CJ Riefenhauser in the Rays organization.  Best of luck Willie!

 

Congratulations to Former Clipper Tom Burns (10')

On June 6, 2012, Former Clipper Tom Burns was selected by the Mil. Brewers in the 34th round of the MLB first year player draft. Tom is from Don Bosco Prep. Congratulations Tom!!

Mike Mercurio (09') Named 3rd Team ALL-American

Congratulations to Former Clipper Mike Mercurio (09')

In May, Mike was named 3rd team ALL-American by the NCBWA for Mount Olive College.  Mike also earned other post season awards this past year including, All-Conference 1st Team, All Conference Tournament Team, and All Southeast Region 1st Team. 

Michael, just finished up his Junior year of college and will be working along side the Clipper coaches this summer during their trip down south.  Way to go Michael.  Keep working hard!!!

COACH MERC JOINS KC ROYALS STAFF

On Saturday January 7, Coach Mercurio signed a contract with the Kansas City Royals to scout under Northeast Supervisor Keith Connolly. While Coach Merc attends dozens of High School and College games a year, he'll be reporting back to Mr Connolly with information on players here in the Northeast.

IT'S JUST GREAT TO SEE PLAYERS WHOM WE WATCHED AND COACHED WHEN THEY WERE 9 AND 10 YEARS OLD GROW UP AND BEGIN FULFILLING THEIR DREAMS. 2011 WAS A GREAT SEASON FOR MANY OF OUR FORMER PLAYERS BUT THESE TWO HAD EXCEPTIONAL SEASONS.

Clippers in The Draft !!

The Clippers family would like to congratulate the following alumni who were selected in the 2011 MLB player draft

Curt Casali - selected in the 10th round to the Tigers  2005 team

Joey Maher - selected in the 38th round to the Yankees 2010 team 

Matt Tomshaw - selected in the 43rd round by the Twins 2005, 2006 team 

This was a great honor for these players and it was an honor to have coached and had them wear the WYC uniform

Also a congratulations as a friend of the program and former SOAC player for Coach Imbriale (hope that makes some folks cheery)
