It began back in 1951, when Rod Keller opened a roadside restaurant called Rod's Ranch House on Morristown's Madison Avenue. The rustic log cabin grew over the years, and in 1963, it was transformed into Rod's 1890's Restaurant. A fine dining oasis, specializing in steaks and seafood. Rod was an avid admirer of Victorian-era decorative arts, and it is his collection of antiques that adorns the restaurant complex. In 1964, Rod purchased two turn of the century Antique Pullman Parlour Cars that had been in storage yards for years in various states of disrepair. The cars were meticulously restored to their original grandeur and today serve as a unique venue to enjoy Rod's award winning cuisine. In preparation for the new millennium, an extensive renovation was undertaken in 1998, transforming the restaurant to Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille. Rich wood paneling, shining brass, and warm tones are combined to give Rod's a sophisticated look and position the restaurant for the turn of a new century and the celebration of their 50th anniversary. Throughout the years the Keller Family had been purchasing tracts of land adjacent to the restaurant and in 1981 the family built the 190 room Madison Hotel, capturing the spirit, elegance, and hospitality of the Gilded Age.
