Mark Brown, Former Major Leaguer, Former Rochester Rockie (RMSBL) Now a Minister!

Mark Brown was a former Major League pitcher for the Orioles and Twins, played AAA for the Rochester Red Wings and Toledo Mudhens and I am proud to say after retiring from pro baseball,  he played a couple great seasons for the Rockies (1B and Catcher) in the RMSBL including our 1996 Chamionship season. Not only was he a great team mate, he was well liked by everyone who played against us. Mark's home run off former Rockie's team mate Roger Klimek sailing over the right field light tower in the final game ever player at Silver Stadium is one of my fondest memories. Mark now lives in the Kansas City, MO area and is a pastor for his church in charge of youth ministries and sports programs. Here is a link to an article about Mark by Jeremy Rosenberg from his book "Green Mountain Boys of Summer"

PADRES Eliminiate ROCKIES 11-1 in American Division Final
Rockies Padres handshke
Post game handshake

Since 2004 the Rockies and Padres have shook hands at the end of the last game of the year for at least one of the teams 5 out of the past 6 years, and someone has headed off for the winter wondering how it might have been different. Last year it was the Padres 4-3 losers in the American Division Final, who left the field wondering, while the Rockies went on to win the Championship. Today the Rockies will walk away wondering "What Happened"? after an 11-1 pounding in a game shortened by a 10 run mercy rule. "The best "team" won". might be the best answer to the question as the difference between both teams was night and day today. The Padres played solid defense, came through in the clutch with 2 out hits to score runs in 4 different innnings, and made only one base running blunder the entire game.

After a 1-2-3 top of the first for Padres starter Craig Jones(7 IP, 3 K's 8 hits, 1 run), the Padres put two runs on the board in the bottom of the inning. Mark Scorsone doubled with one out, Mike Murphy followed with a double of his own scoring Scorsone and one out later ex-Rockie Bo Mulholland took a 1-2 pitch from Evan Bickel (5 IP, 11 hits, 7 runs, 3 K's) back up the middle to score Murphy and the Padres had a 2-0 lead that would be enough to win the game, as it later turned out.  The Padres got a couple of two out hits in the bottom of the second as Dennis Tubolino singled with two outs, stole second and then scored on Mark Scorsone's single. The Rockies had 3 base runners in both the second and third innings and runners on second and third in the fourth with no outs,  but baserunning mistakes kept them off the board in each inning. The Padres virtually wrapped this one up in the fourth inning, by batting around and scoring 4 runs in the process. Craig Jones led off the inning with a single. After Bickel struck out Mulholland and got Karp to ground out to short, the Padres would score four times all with 2 outs. Zibuck singled in Jones,Yazback reached on an error, AND "Then" Padres legend Mark Manioci (you owe me for this one Mark!) made his triumphant return to the lineup after Tommy John surgery in the off-season with a base on balls, after flying out in the second inning. Singles by Dennis Tubolino and Scorsone followed and the Padres had raised the bar to a 7-0 lead after 4 innings. The one highlight of the day for the Rockies happened in the fifth. Larry Frisa singled with one out, Doug Costello sac bunted him over to second (nice call Chuck Jr?) and Tony Cotrupe took a two strike Jones fastball to left center to score Frisa and the Rockies were on the board.  Bickel pitched the fifth then gave way to Dave Schumacher who pitched the sixth and seventh. The Padres would end it in the seventh scoring 4 times, including three runs after 2 outs to send the Padres into next Sunday's League Championship game and the Rockies to the golf course before winter hits in a couple of weeks. (I hope not!!)

Mickey Harris Named All Star Game MVP!
John Sexton 2006

Mickey Harris went 2-3 at the plate, scored the games first run for the American Division and played solidly in the field to earn the MVP Award, an MTH bat manufactured by former Rockie Mark Hebert in a game played at Frontier Field. The National Division took the game 14 -6 however. Rockies John Sexton and Dave Schumacher also played in the game. Schumacher hit an rbi double to the left center field fence scoring a run, while Sexton also reached base and scored for the Americans. Sexton turned in a couple of great defensive plays in the field, and Schumacher pitched the middle frames of the game and after shaking off the "rust" of not throwing in 3 weeks,  pitched solidly, striking out 5 National All Stars.
