TRYOUT INFORMATION

We will hold open practices during the winter and spring season. The Challenge is managed to promote serious and committed soccer players who are interested in working exclusively with professional coaches who are well versed in the college recruitment environment. The team competes in premier leagues and attends nationally ranked college showcase tournaments.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

The WWP Challenge was formed in August 2006 and is categorized as a premier elite team within the West Windsor Plainsboro Soccer Association. Our team's objectives are to: (i) be considered one of the more competitive premier teams in New Jersey; (ii) attend highly noted College Showcases so players can be evaluated by a broad range of college recruiters; (iii) focus on player development; (iv) prepare our players and their families for the college recruitment process; and (v) ensure players have some fun and enjoy the experience.

Heading To Jefferson Cup

Congratulations to the WWP Chaallenge for the acceptance into the prestigious Jefferson Cup. The Challenge will compete in the Superior flight against teams from CT, MD and PA. Considered one of the top tournaments in the nation, the U-16 age group has 44 teams from 12 states and will play college showcase format. The Challenge is only the second team in the history of WWPSA to be accepted into the Jeff Cup.

The Jefferson Cup is going into the 29th year of competition in and around the Greater Richmond Area (VA). Each year the girls weekend, hosts 350 teams (U10 thru U19) from across the country and Canada to play over three days. For the U-16 to U-19 age groups, it is a showcase event with several hundred colleges from across the country recruiting. For girls, the tournament is ranked 4th among the youth soccer tournaments in the US. It is also associated as one of the five premier North American tournaments.
Each year the combined girls and boys tournament weekends draw an average of over 150 State Cup Champions, over 50 Regional Champions and over 5 National Champions throughout the nine age groups. The Jefferson Cup averages 1100 applications for around 550 annual entries and competition for acceptance is very high. With an extensive 4 week research period, the tournament committee considers, team history, results, placement in state, regional and national competitions, other events acceptance, and rankings.

Challenge Offer Tough Competition At Showcase
Last weekend the WWP Challenge participated in the inaugural NJ Wildcats Showcase. Playing in the top flight (Elite Blue), the Challenge were matched against some of the top ranked teams in Region 1. The Challenge finished in second place with a record of (1-1-1) allowing only 2 goals against. Well done!

CHALLENGE WELCOMES NEW COACHING STAFF

The Challenge are excited to welcome a new coaching staff to the team for the 2009-10 season. The staff consists of senior members of the Youth Soccer Alliance (YSA) organization including:

Finalists At Prestigious Columbia Invitational
On the Memorial Day weekend, the WWP Challenge U-15 girls represented WWPSA at one of the top girl’s tournaments in the country. Playing in the premier flight of this college showcase, the Challenge lost the championship game 1-0. It was a hard fought match against the Braddock Road YC Santos (VA), which is one of the top teams in Region 1. The Challenge won their bracket with a record of 2-0-1 by defeating the Patriots FC (NYE) 3-2, Victory Express (PAW) 2-0 and playing to a draw against the Thunder Extreme (MD) 0-0. In the semi-finals the Challenge defeated the tournament’s top seed Lower Dauphin SA LDC United (PAE) 2-1. During all five matches over the three days of tournament play the Challenge played inspired quality soccer and continuously received complimentary comments from their opponents and the referees. Congratulations!

Challenge Returning To The Score
Today the WWP Challenge were officially accepted into The Score Showcase which takes place at Greensboro, NC in July. Last year the Challenge were finalists in the Red Flight.

Monday, March 23
Finalists In Maryland
Yesterday the WWP Challenge were defeated 3-2 by Yankee United (CT) in the finals of the Premier Flight of the Baltimore March Madness Tournament.  Yankee United took advantage of a slow start by the Challenge. However, in the second half, the Challenge found their game and tried to rally but fell just short. The Challenge advanced to the finals by winning their bracket with a record of 2-1-0.

Monmouth U Head Coach Visits WWP Challenge
Last night, Krissy Turner attended the Challenge’s weekly winter indoor training session. Krissy is the Women’s Head Coach of the Monmouth University Hawks who compete in the Northeast Conference NCAA Division I. She is also the Head Coach of the born 1993 New Jersey Girls ODP Team. During the 2½ hours, Krissy trained the Challenge and gave players direct exposure to college coaching and expectations. The training focused on individual technical skills and 1 v 1 situations. There were also a few lighter moments when the players shared a laugh with Krissy. Following the training, Krissy spoke to the players and parents about college soccer including insight into the coach’s expectations / perspective, the college recruitment process and how players should prepare themselves to be collegiate student-athletes. The evening closed with a Q&A session. Thanks to Krissy for a great experience!

March Madness Bound
The WWP Challenge have been accepted into the Baltimore March Madness Tournament in Maryland and will compete in the Premier Flight. This tournament is considered one of the more competitive tournaments in the North-East and provides an opportunity to be exposed to college recruiters.

Challenge Returning to Region 1 For Spring '09 League Play
The Challenge have been accepted into the Region 1 Colonial League which is intended for teams able to play at the level of their state cup Finalists, semi-Finalists, and quarter-Finalists. The Colonial League includes teams from the US Youth Soccer State Associations of New York West, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania West and New Jersey. League play will begin on or after February 28 and will conclude on the weekend of April 25, 2009. The weekend of May 2 – 3, 2009 will be used only for makeup games. The finals will be held on May 9 and 10, 2009 at the Kirkwood Soccer Club in New Castle, Delaware. This is the second year in a row the Challenge will be playing spring soccer in a Region 1 league.


Wednesday, December 10
Challenge Open Season In North Carolina
During this past weekend the WWP Challenge travelled to Raleigh, North Carolina to participate in the CASL College Showcase. With premier teams from over 35 states, this tournament is currently ranked by Got Soccer as the #1 girls’ tournament in the country. Competing in the Premier Questra flight the Challenge finished with a record of 1-1-1, with their only loss to the Chicago Fire Juniors (IL) in a close game.  In addition to playing several great matches, the Challenge had an opportunity to watch the University of North Carolina Tar Heels win the NCAA Division I national championship at the College Cup. Overall a great weekend of soccer both on and off the field.

Challenge Heading To Raleigh, NC
The WWP Challenge U-15G will be travelling to North Carolina for a second time in 2008. In December they will be participating in the CASL Showcase Tournament in Raleigh. Last year, this invitational college showcase attracted over 500 college coaches and recruiters and the Showcase is currently ranked as one of the top 10 tournaments in the country by GotSoccer.com. This year, the girls weekend of the tournament will be held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's College Cup Division 1 final four. During their first visit to North Carolina in July, the WWP Challenge advanced to the finals of The Score Showcase at Greensboro.

Finalists In North Carolina
Last weekend the WWP Challenge U-14G traveled to Greensboro, NC to play in The Score Showcase. This was the team’s first opportunity to participate in one of the top rated tournaments in the country. The Challenge clearly demonstrated they belonged and advanced to the red flight championship game. The team played a total of 6 games over 4 days against tough competition including nationally ranked club teams and Super Y teams such as 93 CASL Spartan Elite (NC), Quickstrike FC (NY), Blackwatch Premier (RI), Strictly Soccer (FL) and Sound Beach Barnsley FC (NY).

Successful Spring League Season Comes To An End

Sunday's 1-1 tie versus the two time defending state cup champion MLU Power was the final game of a very successful 2008 spring season. Over the past 4 months, the Challenge has played against many of the top teams in Region 1 and in every game the Challenge has proven to be a worthy opponent resulting in close hard fought quality matches. The Challenge now begin to prepare for North Carolina in July and the return of their 5 injured players.



Monday, May 12
Injury Plagued Challenge Loses Championship On PKs
Over the weekend the WWP Challenge U-14 girls competed in the top flight of the EPIC Tournament (Yardley, PA). The Challenge opened with a 1-0 victory against CRUSA and a 1-1 tie versus CDSA. Both matches were  played with poor field conditions, however, the Challenge dominated play but struggled to capitalize on their multiple scoring opportunities. In Sunday's semi-final against the Princeton Orange Crush, once again the Challenge controlled a majority of the play but struggled to find the back of the net.  As a result regulation play and overtime ended in a 1-1 tie and the Challenge advanced on penalty kicks. With less than an hour break and mounting injuries (5 players), the Challenge entered the finals against VE Velocity a top ranked PA team. Both teams battled hard during regulation time with the Challenge having a slight advantage in play and the best scoring chance (crossbar). With the score 0-0 the game went into overtime but neither team could capitalize. An exhausted Challenge squad lost on penalty kicks.

Competing In North Carolina

Yesterday, the Challenge were officially accepted into The Score Showcase At Greensboro (formerly Score At The Shore) in North Carolina. This invitational college showcase has a strong history of attracting top teams as well as hundreds of college coaches and recruiters each year. The Challenge were amongst the first group of US and Canadian teams to be accepted.

Challenge Moving To MAPS Hart Flight
For the Spring '08 season, the WWP Challenge will be moving to the MAPS Hart Flight. During the Fall '07 season the Challenge played in the MAPS North B Flight.

WWP Challenge Accepted Into Region I Premier League

Congratulations to the WWP Challenge who have been accepted into the Region I Premier League in the U14 Girls division. The Region I Premier League is for the top sixteen teams throughout the Region in each of the U14 to U18 age groups for both girls and boys. The competition is designed to allow the best teams in Region I to play each other in a league format. With only sixteen positions available in any age group and gender throughout the Region, entry into the league is very competitive.  The WWP Challenge is the WWPSA's first team to be accepted into the league.

 

Regular league play begins anytime after March 1st, and concludes on May 4th. The semi-finals and finals will be held on May 10 and 11, 2008 at the Kirkwood Soccer Club in Delaware.

 

Region 1 consists of the 15 United States Youth Soccer (USYS) State Associations within Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts,  New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia.

WWP Challenge Are Finalist At Hempfield
Playing on a sloppy surface in high winds and driving rain mixed with snow, the WWP Challenge were upset in the final of the Hempfield Classic losing 2-0 to the Spirit United Lightning. During preliminary rounds, the Challenge dominated it's opponents winning 9-0, 8-1 and 4-1.

Sunday, October 28
Challenge Advance To The Semis In NJYS National Championships

Earlier today, the WWP Challenge U-14 Girls advanced to the semifinals of the NJYS National Championships by defeating the Bridgewater Breakers 1-0. On this cool and windy day, field conditions were less than ideal due to the two previous days of rain. However, the Challenge dominated play in the first half generating numerous scoring chances but could not find the back of the net. In the second half, the Challenge continued to press and their persistence finally was rewarded with approximately 15 minutes remaining.  

The semifinals will be played at the neutral Bordentown Friendship Fields site on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:30 pm on Field #2. Best of luck!

Challenge Going To Maryland On Labor Day Weekend
The WWP Challenge are playing in the OBGC Capital Cup, a premier tournament held in Olney, Maryland. They will be competing in the top flight which includes 3 of the top 10 teams in Region 1.

Tuesday, October 23
Challenge Going To Quarter Finals In NJYS National Championships
On the weekend during the round of 16 in the NJYS National Championships tournament, the WWP Challenge U-14 Girls team advanced to the quarter finals by defeating the Pittsgrove Pride 1-0. The Challenge successfully executed their game plan of organizing a strong defensive system against the #4 ranked (NSR) team in New Jersey. As a result, both the regular and overtime periods ended in a scoreless draw. The game went to penalty kicks with the Challenge scoring on 3 of 4 chances while not allowing a single goal. In the previous round, the Challenge utilized a high pressure attacking system to defeat the #7 state ranked (NSR) Freehold Shooting Stars 3-0.
The quarter finals will be played at the neutral Bordentown Friendship Fields site on Sunday, October 28th at 2:15 pm on Field #1. Good luck ladys!

Monday, May 28
Heartbreaker At The Virginian

During the Memorial Day weekend, the WWP Challenge and two other WWP teams traveled to Fairfax, Virgnia to compete in The Virginian Tournament, which is the largest soccer tournament on the East Coast with over 675 teams from 15 states and Canada. The Challenge won their bracket of the Premier Gold Flight and advanced to the semi-finals where they lost a very close match in the second overtime period 2-1, to the New Hide Park Lady Cougars who are the #1 ranked team from NYE and tournament champions.

2007-08 Challenge Becomes Academy Level Team
Challenge will be part of the newly formed WWP Academy Program and Pat McCarry will be returning as the Head Coach. Details on Pat are available under the Coaches link on the left.

After a successful fall '06 season the WWP Challenge have been accepted into the MAPS league for the spring '07 season.

Thursday, October 12
Congratulations - Frederick Cup Girls Premier Tournament Champions
The WWP Challenge U-13 Girls Travel team came home with the championship trophy at the prestigious Frederick Cup Girls Premier Tournament in Kirkwood, Delaware. The championship match was an intense game that ended up 1-1 after regulation and overtime play. The championship was decided during what seemed like a marathon session of penalty kicks where the WWP Challenge prevailed in the 13th round. Head Coach Pat McCarry stated shortly after the match "This is absolutely unbelievable! I've never seen anything like it (the PKs) in my 20 years of coaching. The girls were just brilliant! My nerves are shot! All the players showed extraordinary teamwork and contributed so much to the teams success this weekend."

The Challenge were undefeated in five games.



Thursday, November 9
Finish Fall League Play Undefeated
Congratulations to the WW Challenge U-13 Girls who went undefeated in the top group of JAGS. The Challenge finished their fall league play with a record of 6-0-0 which included 16 goals for and only 5 goals against.
