All Coaches, For the the rest of this Season we are going to let the kids who have newly pierced their ears and can not take the earrings off play with a band aid and head band around their ears. But please remember starting next year and if you go to any tournament you can not play with any type of jewelery, this is CYSA's rule and it is enforced strictly at club games. Essi Director and Head Referee There is a lot of talk this year concerning earrings. A new rule (see below) endorsed by FIFA & Cal South is in place requiring that NO jewelry be worn by soccer participants. There are NO exceptions - tape (band-aids) cannot be used to cover earrings.

If players show up to play wearing earrings, they will be asked to remove them. If for any reason, the players cannot remove their earring (medical/religious reasons?), then they need to Email Essi (esdadfar@yahoo.com). He will discuss on a case-by-case basis and, if appropriate, he can advise the referee of exceptions to allow taping for that player only.

Cal South Board Amends Rule on Player Safety At it's September 2003 Board meeting, the Board voted to replace Rule 2.4.2 Player Safety as follows: "Endorse FIFA Law IV and current USSF guides" http://images.fifa.com/fifa/handbook/laws/2003/LOTG2003_e.pdf (Page 15) FIFA Law IV states "A player must not use equipment or wear anything that is dangerous to himself or another player (including any kind of jewellery).")
