Thursday, January 10 Coaches Page This page is for informing coaches of upcoming events, training, etc. Thursday, January 10 Coaching Clinic Baseball and Softball “Coaching” Clinic for All Adults – January 27th In preparing for the upcoming season, Little League Baseball and Softball programs across Lane County are hosting a Statewide training event for all parents, potential volunteer coaches, and other interested adults. Participants are not required to be volunteers with a local Little League as the training is 'universal' in skill-development, yet ethically based on the Child Development Program called "Little League!" (This is not a kids' clinic, but a clinic to help prepare adults who may be working with the kids on of off the field.) Two distinct sessions will be held on Sunday, January 27th at Lincoln Middle School in Cottage Grove. Session One is for those working with players ages 9 and up. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. The session begins at 8:30 and is scheduled to end at 1:45 (ending with a safety session led by a high school athletic trainer). Session Two is for those working with players ages 5-8. Registration begins at 12:15 p.m. The session begins at 12:45 with the sports safety session and ends at approximately 5:15 p.m. If associated with a local League, contact their representative to verify if they are covering the cost of participation, or if donations are being taken by the League. Non-Little League participants will be assessed a $25 fee. All funds received help cover the cost of the clinic. Individual payments may be made by cash or check when registering on-site at the clinic, or by mail to "Oregon District 9 Little League, P.O. Box 328, Scotts Mills, OR 97375." If by mail, include a list of those covered by the payment. Areas covered will include how to teach throwing, catching, ground balls, fly balls, the catcher position, pitching, base running, sliding, hitting, bunting, how to organize a practice and a game, warm-up stretches and exercises, and fun activities and drills for practices. All training is beneficial to anyone working with kids on and off the field. Attendees are strongly encouraged to come prepared for a very interactive session, with a ball glove, in comfortable clothing, sneakers or running shoes, and ready to participate! Reference and Training materials will be available on-site to purchase. Questions specific to the clinic may be directed to 4.the.kids@earthlink.net. |
