December Tournament
The Wave had a great time playing during the Christmas Holiday season in the Pearland Frosty's Bash tournament. The girls opened the tournament on a tear Friday night, running up the score twice 14-7 against the Lake Jackson MojoMagic and 13-5 against the Dickinson Red Hots. The wheels came off on Saturday and Sunday as the Wave lost twice in bracket games, 15-9 to our old rivals the Diamond Divas and 13-6 against the South Texas Tournadoes. This will be our last tournament as 8U's, most of us (maybe all) will move up to 10U in 2006.

WAVE Takes 2nd in Galveston!
The WAVE hit the road over Labor Day weekend to try our luck in our first big, OPEN tournament in Galveston. Playing our best ball ever, the WAVE swept through the tournament to take 2nd place. Twelve teams were entered from up and down the Texas coast from Nederland to South Texas and the level of competition was consistently high. The tournament started in the rain with a 6-6 tie against the Texas City Hollabat Girls. After a long rain delay, the sun came out and so did the WAVE bats as the girls rolled over the Angleton Explosion in the 2nd pool game 12-6. The girls had to immediately turn around and play a tough bracket game against the Puppy Pride from Nederland. In our first-ever ITB game, the WAVE won a nail-biter by one run, 10-9 . Needing to win one more to come back on Sunday, the WAVE swamped the Explosion 16-7. On Sunday, the WAVE continued to roll, beating a very good Dickenson Red Hots team to start the morning. In the winner's bracket finals, the WAVE came from down 5-1 to beat our old friends, the South Houston Diamond Divas 12-7. Our luck ran out a little in the championship games as the Diamond Divas came back to take two hard-fought contests 11-4 and 10-5. What a great way to spend a long weekend!

WAVE Finishes Strong at the Sugarland Slam Firecracker Jam
The WAVE finished the 2005 Summer Tournament Season with a solid showing at the Sugar Land Slam Firecracker Jam at Imperial Park in Sugar Land. The WAVE placed 7th out of a strong 20 team field going 3-2 in bracket games. After two good pool games Friday night against the Missouri City Magic (tie) and Katy All-Stars (win) the girls dropped the first bracket game to the Humble Explosion on Saturday afternoon. In two must-win games on Saturday night the WAVE came back strong and sent the LaPorte Apaches and NW45 Tornados home in games under the lights. Back at Sugar Land early on Sunday morning, the WAVE started VERY strong to beat our old friends the Missouri City Magic on run-rule in the fourth inning. The WAVE then ran into a powerful Galveston Riptide team that was a on a roll and couldn't pull out a win. The girls then headed over to McDonald's, of course, and then on to Adventure Bay Water Park for a GREAT afternoon of swimming and sliding. The highlight was definitely watching Coach Hudler attempt to break the land speed record going down the Gulf Scream slide. Special thanks to Madeline Frazier for filling in with us at the tournament. Great job Madeline, we loved having you play with us!

Wave Finishes 2nd at Pasadena!
The WAVE played an outstanding series of games this weekend and came away with second place at the Pasadena Hit Squad Father's Day Out Tournament! Coming all the way back through the loser's bracket, the WAVE played 5 consecutive games in the heat on Sunday. The WAVE got rolling on Sunday with a revenge win over the Missouri City Magic 14-3. The big win of the weekend came in a tight 12-11 victory over a very good Pasadena Krush team to lift the WAVE into trophy-land. They then sent the Baytown Fusion home with 3rd place winning easily 16-2. The fully-rested South Houston Diamond Divas won the championship game over a WAVE squad that was playing their fifth back-to-back game. All-in-all, clearly the WAVE's best showing of the season. Special thanks goes to Kathryn Pielech for filling in for us at the last minute.

WAVE Has a Blast at the Wave Pool Splash
The WAVE completed another successful outing this weekend going 3-2 at the LaPorte Wave Pool Splash, TheWAVE outscored their opponents 54-41 and averaged more than 10 runs per game. After opening strong on Friday night, the WAVE did a great job coming back in our first E-game from down 9-1 to only losing 12-11. After a nicely done win over the LaPorte Apaches on Saturday morning, 11-9, the WAVE lost a tough one to a big, seasoned squad from Pearland. We had a great time playing a whole new set of teams and meeting some nice girls from around the south part of the Houston area. The best part of the tournament, by far, was the great wave pool at Little Cedar Bayou Park. The parents liked the Cajun food in LaPorte, too.

Wave Places 2nd at Texas Talons B Ball Bash!
The WAVE rolled ashore at the Texas Talons B Ball Bash over Memorial Day Weekend and came away with 2nd place! The WAVE went 5-3 in the tournament, outscoring opponents 72-55. The championship game was a hard-fought, one-run game with the WAVE losing only 7-6 to a tough team from Tomball, . The WAVE went 3-1 in pool games, which included a tough triple-header in the heat of the day, defeating the Bay City Pride, Baytown Bat Attack (a select team), and the CAGSA All-stars. The only losses in the tournament were to the Showdown from Tomball, a year-round select A team. The WAVE defeated a fine Spring-Klein All-stars team twice to reach the finals. The semi-final game against Spring Klein was another close one, with the WAVE pulling it out in the last inning, 8-7. We even had to play an inning in the rain. The team had a great time playing "Jock Jams" about 150 times on Coach Sherman's boom-box (that he REALLY regretted bringing to the game). The girls also had fun with squirt guns, the dirt piles and Silly String. They even squirted the coach from the Showdown in the parking lot!

Wave Works Hard in the Heat
The WAVE got our first taste of tournament softball as a team at the Sugar Land All-Star Kickoff Classic May 20-22. We finished 3-3 and in the top 12 out of 16, going 2-1 in pool games and 1-2 in bracket. Our 3 losses were all close games with the WAVE only losing by a combined total of 5 runs. We had a great time and learned a lot despite the heat -- our mom's certainly got their pores open this weekend sitting in the stands, no need to go the spa! Sugar Land Imperial Park is a GREAT facility to play in and we salute our opponents: Missouri City Magic, Alief Attitude, Rose-Rich Stampede, Lake Jackson Elite and Wild Coast Heat. We did some great hitting and fielding and enjoyed playing some tough, fast teams. Total for the tournament: WAVE 74 Other Teams 44. Way to go WAVE!
