"Striders Extend Summer Registration Dates"
The Warren Striders Track Club, Inc. has extended its dates for registrations for its 2008 Summer Track and Field Development Program through June 12, 2008.
Membership is open to all Trumbull-Mahoning County residents, ages 4-6 through 19-over.
Registrations are scheduled for June 4, 5, 9, 11, 12 at the Concession Building, at Deemer Park, located adjacent to Warren Western Reserve Middle School, 200 Loveless SW, Warren, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Fees are: $45 for individuals, $35 for a renewal, $95 for a Family Group of three of the same family, $10 for each additional child, and $75 for a family renewal.
New members must provide two copies of the birth certificate. Those 18 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

"Striders Coach Competes in Senior Games"
Perry, Oh.-Head Coach and Program Director of the Warren Striders Track Club, Inc., Jack thornton, Jr., recently competed in the opening Track and Field events of the 2008 Northcoast Senior Games, held here at the Perry High School track facilities, May 31.
The Northcoast Senior Games, sponsored by the Lake County Council on Aging, the Lake Metroparks and a host of other local agencies, competed participants ages 50 and over.
Thornton, a retired Warren City Schools educator and athletic coach, took top honors in the Long Jump and was the Runner-up in the 100 and 1600m Racewalk in the Men's 60-64 Division.
In addition, Thornton, who recently completed his third season as the Sprints/Hurdles Coach at Malone College in Canton, will be entering his 31st season at the helm of the local Warren Striders Track Club.

"Three Striders take top honors at Jim ward Meet"
Columbiana--Three members of the Warren Striders Track club, Inc. captured top individual honors after performing in the 11th Annual Jim Ward meet held at the Jim Ward Athletic Complex on June 9. The team collected 19 medals (4 gold, 9 silver, 6 bronze)and 9 ribbons for 4th through 6th place finishes.
Top performers were Breanne Martin, who captured honors in the 100 and 200 and placed second in the 400 in the Girls 16-18 division. Teammates, Avery Stovell and Maegan Stringer were individual champions in the Boys 7-8 division 50 and the Girls 9-10 division 100 respectively.

"Striders place well at Akron meet"
Akron---Jordan Moxley, Chad Zallow, and Hunter Heinselman, members of the Warren Striders Track Club, Inc., won four individual events and a runner-up honor, respectively, after competing in the West Akron Invitational held June 16.
Moxley, who will attending Maplewood High School in the Fall, captured top honors in the long jump (15' 6.50 inches), the shot put (25' 3.25inches) and the high jump ( 5' 2 inches) in the Girls 15-16 Division.
Zallow, a student in the Howland school system, won the high jump (3' 5 inches) in the Boys 9-10 Division, while Heinselman, a student at Niles McKinley High School, placed second in the 800 (2:09.5 seconds) in the Boys 17-18 category.
The Striders collected seven medals (4 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) and 11 ribbons for 4th through 6th place finishes.

"Warren coach collects medals at senior meet"
Boardman--- Veteran Warren track coach, Jack Thornton Jr., collected two gold medals after competition in the 2007 Senior Olympics of Northeast Ohio meet held at the Boardman High School track on June 9.
Thornton, a retired Warren educator and athletic coach, and the Head Coach/Program Director of the Warren Striders Track Club, Inc., took top honors in the 100 and the long jump in the Men's 60-64 Age Division.
Thornton, who is also the Sprints/Hurdles Coach at Malone College in Canton, qualified at the 2006 State Senior Games held last year and will compete in the 2007 National Senior Olympic Games scheduled to be held in Kentucky in July.

Warren Striders Impressive in Opener
The Warren Striders Track Club, Inc. opened the 2007 summer track season with several outstanding performances at the Columbus Classic meet held at the Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University, May 20. The meet held events for youth, ages 8-under through Masters, ages 30-over.
The Striders collected nine medals (3 gold, 3 silver, 3 bronze) and three ribbons for fourth, fifth and an eighth place finishes.
The Striders were led by Adam Mazey, who captured top honors in the high jump ( 4 feet 1.5 inches), third in the 80m hurdles (17.99) and was a member of the second place sprint medley relay team in the Boys 11-12 age division. Teammate Chad Zallow, captured first place in the high jump (3 feet, 7.25 inches), second in the shot put(17 feet, 9.50 inches) and an eighth in the 800(3:02.17) in the Boys 9-10 division.
Rounding out the Striders' performances in the Boys 11-12 division were: Stephen Demacopoulos, first in the 80m hurdles, ran a leg on the sprint medley relay and competed in the 200; Nico Lucarelli, second in the 1500, third in the high jump and also running a leg on the relay; and Carl Zallow, who placed fourth in the long jump, fifth in the 800 and ran anchor on the relay.
The five Striders, who attend Howland schools, are coached by veteran Striders' coach, Jack Thornton, Jr. and assistant Charles Zallow.

Striders Snag Gold Medals
Three members of the Warren Striders Track Club, Inc. turned in several gold medal performances at the Loy Memorial meet held in Canton, June 3. the three member contingent, who are students in the Howland schools, collected seven medals (5 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze) following the day's activities.
The Striders were led by Carl Zallow, who collected first place finishes in the long jump (11 feet, 11 inches) and the high jump (3 feet, 10 inches). In addition, he took runner-up honors in the 80m hurdles with a time of 16.60 in the Boys 11-12 age category. Adam Mazey tied with Carl Zallow in the high jump, leaping 3 feet, 10 inches and placed third in the 80m hurdles.
Rounding out the performers was Chad Zallow, who captured gold medals in the high jump and shot put in the Boys 10-under division.
