Dave Webb.............. Are you out there?

Hello,

My name is Kevin L. Bapst and I was once a board member in Wapakoneta. We moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in February of 2000.

Chelsea is doing great out here and has been playing club fastpitch softball since we arrived. You wouldn't believe how far she has come.

She is the starting catcher on a 14U team as a 13 year old. There are approximately 20 teams in each age group in the Phoenix / Tucson area. The starting pitcher for Chelsea's team throws around 58 mph and has 5 pitches.... I can't hit her. Neither can most girls they play against. The team goal is to go to the USSSA Nationals in Orlando, Florida, in August of 2003.

Hannah's 10U team went to the ASA Nationals in Tulsa, OK, this August, 2002, and finished in the top 25 teams. Actually, the team that took 6th place, (San Francisco Nuggets), only beat us 2-1 in a bracket qualifier game. Our finishing spot didn't reflect how good the team actually was.

Anyway, Fastpitch Softball is a 365 day a year sport out here. It's 7 days a week every week and we play around 115 games, (not counting scrimmages), a year not counting Nationals. Weekends usually start around 5:00 am in the morning on Saturday and end at anywhere from 4:00 to 10:00 pm at night. That's just to qualify for Sunday. On Sunday you then play until you loose. If you have a good weekend, Sunday doesn't end until 5:00 pm. You still started at 5:00 am in the morning.

Anyway, write back and let me know how the organization is progressing. I am still interested in the program and may be able to help or give some insight in the future.

Write back to: bapstfamily@msn.com

Respectfully,
Kevin L. Bapst
