Welcome to the Home of the Wrecking Crew: 2006 Season
Sunday, November 6Wrecking Crew Goes Back To Work
Tom Slick Park-The Wrecking Crew 6-man football team had thier first practice Sunday morning. On a unseasonably warm November day, the heat was having an effect on some of the players out for the first time in pads. For the most part, 28 players made it thru practice.
"You could see a few players who were thinking 'what did I get myself in to'" said Hector Muniz, head coach. " For the most part,I think it could have been worse, but i thought if we wouldn't have run out water, we would have been better off"
With quite a few new players out to make the squad, the 'Crew have the look of a competitive team."I wouldn't say that." Muniz said. " We need to understand that we have a long way to go. Where we want to be at the end of the year is what counts."
After finishing last year with a 4 and 7 record, the 'Crew made it into the playoffs as a wild card team. In what some consider a upset of the Raiders in the wild card round, the Rage ended the Wrecking Crew's season.
But with signs of maybe good things to come in '06.
"We lost a good leader in our QB from last year. And that will be the key for us this year. It seems we have some good players, but I'm big on leadership. Especially in this league" Muniz said.
"We also have a new defensive coach who I hope will bring in a aggressive mentality." Muniz said. He speaks of new coach Tony Trujillo.
Trujillo is coming over after a stellar career as a defensive end for the Mighty Mean Machine and Hit Squad.
"We have some good players on that side of the ball and it will be up to Tony to get them to gel. I think he will." Muniz Said.
So, for now, Wrecking Crew football is working on getting accustom to thier new faces. And with the season set to start in less then three months, much work needs to be done.
"This is what we do" Muniz said.

Crew Blow Bucs Out of the Water!!!!!!!
Judson High School-The last game of the '05 season, saw the Wrecking Crew 6-man football team being dismantled by a Bucs team that was shorthand and ending their season. The Crew themselves were missing Leonard 'L' Walker offense and Mondo Cruz on defense. The final outcome put the Crew on the losing end on the way to the playoffs.
In todays season opener of the 2006 season, Walker and Cruz showed what a different team the Crew is with them on the field as they helped beat the Bucs 44-6.
Walker scored on the first three drives of the first half with assorted moves and jukes, but the best of the day coming on the last play of the first half. On a well executed pump and go play, quarterback Steven Owens layed it up perfectly to Walker for a long touchdown to take a demanding 37 to 6 halftime lead.
On the defensive side of the ball, the start was not a great success, but after the first series the Crew adjusted and shut down the Bucs offense. Cruz(2 pass defections,2 tac) lead a young defense that saw two new starters and a revamped look by defensive coordinator Will Copeland. After a over aggressive rush was sent under control, the likes of defensive ends Arron Alejandro,Joey Garza,Tony Trujillo and Chris Rodriguez started to take there shots on the Bucs passer, eventually knocking him out of the game. Seeing a heavy pass Rush, the bucs put the ball on the ground a few times. Alejandro took advantage of one of the fumbles by scooping it up and running it in to the endzone for a score.
"We did a good job today, played as a team. It feels good to get the first win of the year." said coach Hector Muniz."But now it's time to turn our attention to a good Sixpack team."
The Crew will take on the Sixpack next Sunday at 1:30pm.

Wrecking Crew Pop Sixpack 33-6!
Judson High School-Just Give Me the Damn Ball...A book by Keyshawn Johnson....
Rick Encina,Wide Receiver for the Wrecking Crew 6-man football team can relate."I always hear from Rick that we always give 'L' full props and not enough to him" said coach Hector Muniz" So I figured this game he could put up or shut up;he put it up big time."
On the first offensive play of the game Encina scored on a 45 yard pass for a touchdown from quarterback Steven Owens to take a lead that the Crew keep the entire game winning 33-6. Encina took another pass to the house from 40 yards out on a nice pass from a scrambling Owens laying it up just enough.
"Rick set the tone for us early and I thought the second touchdown came when the Sixpack just scored themselves. He took that momentum right back to our side." Muniz said.
As well as things went on offensive, the defensive unit did just as well. With heavy pressure applied to the Sixpack backfield all game long and the secondary contesting every pass the Crew defense held its second opponent in a row to 6 points. "Will Copeland has the 'D' playing well, but the way our conference is stacked up, we can only go as far as they will take us" Muniz said.
"This was a game that Will and I wanted real bad. Andy and bobby started in this league with us seven year back. I think the Sixpack will be a team to deal with towards the end and I wish them all luck." Muniz said.

Wrecking Crew Beat Hurricanes 39-19!
Judson High School-What was a close game in the first quarter and a half, turn into a Wrecking Crew win over the Hurricanes 38 to 19. With the win, the 'Crew is 3-0 on the young season.
But winning their third straight game seemed to be in jeopardy as the Wrecking Crew found themselves down 13 to 6 in the second quarter due to 3 turnovers."The defense kept us in the game. The Hurricanes scored on the opening kick-off,after that our D shut them down." head coach Hector Muniz said.
The defense held the Hurricanes offense to 12 points for the game with a quick pass rush from Aaron Alejandro and Joey Garza and good secondary pass coverage from BJ Gonzalez and Derek Cantu.
"I thought we had a horrible practice the other night and that had alot to do with why we came out flat. I'll be the first to tell you we are not a team that can just show up and play.Practice is what will make us or break us."Muniz said.
Once the offense settle down, it was rolling. L-Back J.T. Taylor scored twice and wideout Rick Encina(2td's) scored once before halftime putting the 'Crew up 26-13.
The second half saw wide receiver John Garcia and Gregg 'biggins' Trevino score one touchdown each."The offense played well for two and a half quarters, that is not going to cut it in the south. I know Will(Copeland-defensive coach)was upset that they scored that last one on us.So, I know they are in trouble next practice."Muniz said.
With the Conference opener next week, the Wrecking Crew football team finds themselves in the thick of things. With the 'Crew being one of 5 teams that our undefeated in the south conference, it seems ever game will be a dog fight.
"This is what we want. Every game fought till the end and let things fall were they may"Muniz said.

Defense Leads Crew to Win Over Wolverines, 40-6!
Judson High School-The Wrecking crew beat the Wolverines,40 to 6, in the first conference game for each team. The Crew was lead by its defense and linebacker Joey Gonzalez. Gonzalez was very impressive,as he was all over the field.
"He was picking them(wolverine runners)off very well today. He did a good job on break downs and wrapping up. He was close to getting the quarterback a few times." head coach Hector Muniz said.
"We need to work out a few things on defense that we kind of lucked out on.Next week a team is coming in that our defense is excited about playing. It will be a good measuring stick as to what kind of intestinal fortitude our defense have." Muniz said.
Offensively, the Wolverines went to a prevent defense after the 'Crew took a quick 21 point lead into the second quarter. Rick Encina and J.T. Taylor lead the offense with two touchdowns each.
The Wrecking Crew is now 4-0 on the season with a showdown coming up this Sunday with the Ruff Riders who also are undefeated."They are a solid team all the way around, but we are pretty good team as well, and we will be ready to play."said Muniz.
