Crew Falls Short In First Preseason Game

River City Christian Academy- Driving down the field in the final minutes of the game, the Crew came up short, losing to the Titans 12 to 7. With the loss, the Crew take with them some answer to a few question that seemed up in the air.

With less then 2 minutes to go, quarterback Jimmy Hernandez hit wide receiver Fernando Torres for a big gain to get the offense inside the Titian 20 yard line. Unfortunately, that would be the highlight of the drive. Four plays later the Crew found a tough Titans defense holding them out of the end zone.

With only 4 practices to put in a new offense it showed at times, but no doubt improvement each week was evident. Running back Antwan Brown was the only Crew player to score after he took a short pass the distance making the score 12 to 7 after a one- point conversion was sucessful on a pass to Torres. That would turn out to be the final points of the game.

The big question for the Wrecking Crew in 2012 was the defense. With having to replace all six players on the defensive side of the ball, the current Crew 'D' left no doubt that the potential is there to be good. Lead by linebacker Devante Sutton, the Crew defense had two fumble recoverys and a interception. Sutton had 1int, a force fumble, fumble recovery and numerous tackles. The defense also provided 2 goalline stands at crucial times during the game to keep the Crew alive.

With the defending champion Tigers on next Sundays tilt, the task on both sides of the ball doesn't get any easier. Will the offense impove? And is the defense as good as today game may have shown? Stay tuned folks................

Hernandez and Fisher Lead Crew to Blowout Win Over Rhinos!

CREWVSRHINOS 2012
Wrecking Crew getting ready to kickoff.

River City Christian Academy-The Crew took the first game of the regular season against the Rhinos, 33 to 7. Quarterback Jimmy Hernandez threw for 3 touchdowns and Running Back Deshuan Fisher ran for one score and caught another.  An offensive outburst that was well over due according to the Crew.

The Crew were first on the board when Hernandez hit Rene Winslow in the flat for the first of his 2 scores. The Rhinos would counter with a touchdown drive of thier own tying the game at 7. Fisher would take over from there scoring on a 40 yard rushing touchdown and a 60 yard receiving touchdown. The Crew would cruise to victory from that point.

Once again the Crew defense came to play. Lead safety Luis Mauricio, the defense held the opposing offense to less the 12 points for the third straight game. The defense had a fumble recovery, one interception and two sacks along with numerous gang tackling. That was without starting linebacker Devante Sutton who was ejected from the game for a questionable unsportsman like penalty. In a quarter and a half of play, the linebacker had 4 tackles and a sack.

Up next in week 2 for the Crew is the up and coming Pheonix. Going 2-0 into the tough part of thier schedule is critical as the hated Titans will be waiting in week 3.
