Woodson Wins 5th State Championship
Woodson won it's 5th State Championship on Saturday, 6/12 with a 20-4 victory over Albemarle High School. This was Woodson's 8th straight victory and improved the team's record to 18-3 on the season. In the 8 postseason games covering the District, Region, and State tournaments, Woodson outscored it's opponents 141-43. Congratulations to our 22 members of the team and special thanks to the 8 seniors on their fantastic year.

2002 State Championship Recap
In what turned out to be a gut-wrenching, see-saw, back-n-forth contest- The W.T.Woodson Cavaliers defeated the Rockbridge County Wildcats 8-7 in sudden death overtime to capture the 2002 Virginia State Championships. Ashley McCulloch scored the come from behind goal with 11 seconds left to send the game to sudden death overtime and then after a draw control by Anna Melnicove and assist from Sarah Bryant, Ashley scored the game winner to capture Woodson's 4th State Championship. Congrats to the ladies for pulling out the victory and for such a memorable season, winning their last 16 contests. Special kudos also goes out to Rockbridge for a great game.

Cav Team Comes in 2nd in George Mason Shootout
A team comprised of Woodson Players came in 2nd in the 7 on 7 tournament held at George Mason University. An awesome offensive production by the entire team as every cavalier scored. A total team effort propelled the squad to a victory over Glen Elg in the semifinals as Ashley McCulloch had the game winner in overtime. The team played a tough Annapolis team before going down 5-3 in the finals.
Kudos to all the cavs who played: Anna Melnicove, Megan Cassara, Julianne Stilwell, Annette Huynh, Courtney Arnold, Jen Ryan, Ji Eun, Kathleeen Barry, Sarah Bryant, and Kelly Gaines and Ashley McCulloch.

Lady Cavs Take 1st Place in Turkey Shoot-out
A team comprised of WTW players won the Turket Shoot-out held at Oakton High School on November 17th. Woodson won the field of 12 teams as they defeated Oakton in the finals. Congrats to the lady cavs and thanks to Oakton for putting on the tourny.

Washington Metro Showcase
The W.T. Woodson Booster's 5th Annual Girls Lacrosse Showcase was a great success. Over 40 different colleges and universities attended the event and the competition was excellent. Thanks to all those who helped with the event.

Fired-Up Cavs Begin 2005 Season
With new coach Jenn Karr at the helm, the Cavs are getting geared-up for another exciting season. Due to inclement weather and messy fields, most practices have been held indoors, so it felt great to host Lake Braddock and Mt Vernon yesterday in abbreviated scrimmages. The girls' first game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16th at perennial powerhouse, Westfield. Thursday they board the bus and head to Orlando, Florida for spring training. While at Disney they will compete against Hotchkiss(CT), Harriton(PA), Montclair(NJ), Morristown-Beard(NJ), and Taft(CT). After returning home they are scheduled to play Robinson on March 31st before beginning Liberty district competition.

Wednesday, March 16
Cavs Win Opener
The Cavs won a hard-fought close contest against a tough Westfield team. They trailed the entire game until the go ahead goal was put in with only 3 minutes and 52 seconds left. Final score 9-8. Great team effort!

Saturday, March 19
Busy Day At Disney
The Cavs had a very productive day at Disney competing against Harriton (PA), Hotchkiss (CT), and Montclair (NJ), coming away with two wins and one tie. Click on "Schedules" for scores and details.

Monday, March 21
What a Show!
The Cavs took on Morristown-Beard today and it was an "AMAC" show. Ashley had 8 goals and 5 assists leading the team to a 17-6 victory.

Yesterday the girls enjoyed Blizzard Beach, then dinner and the Duke game at the Shumaker's home in Winter Springs. Special thanks to Randy and Claire for hosting the team for the second year in a row.


Tuesday, March 22
Another Come From Behind Game!
The Cavs came back again tonight from a 5-10 deficit to score 7 unanswered goals against a very talented Taft(CT) team. Final score 12-10.

The team heads back to Fairfax in the morning after a very productive week.


Thursday, March 31
Woodson Loses a Tough One
After coming back from being behind almost the entire game, Woodson ties and then goes ahead, only to have Robinson take the lead back for good. Final score 8-9.

Kim Feeney and Louise Gericke are credited with the shutout.

It was not very pretty, but Woodson wins second Liberty District game.

Cavs Keep on Rolling!
Everyone contributed in the game against Marshall tonight. Final score Woodson 17 - Marshall 5.

Everyone got in the act tonight! Positions were switched, starters were watching while the rookies played some pretty good lax. Mick hit her btb goal, it must have been the new "do!" CONGRATS TO ASHLEY, WHO SET THE ALL TIME SCHOOL RECORD OF CAREER GOALS AT 182, with more to come. Next up is Fairfax...

WTW Comes Away With Another Win
On a beautiful evening at Van Dyke Park the Cavaliers came alive after Fairfax scored the first goal. That was the last time the Cavs were behind. Final score Woodson 16-Fairfax 6.

Senior Night!
The Cavs celebrated their seniors tonight with a decisive victory over Langley 15-4. Congrats to our seniors, Ashley, Alicia, Lindsay, Frances, Meredith, and Kim. Good luck in college next year, you will all be missed.

Friday, May 6
Cavs Sweep District!
Madison was fired-up on their senior night, but the Cavs prevailed with a 16-10 win to enter the district tournament as the number one seed. Warm wishes go out to Danielle for a speedy recovery from her reinjured knee.

Every field player scored a goal in the first game of the district tournament tonight. Final score was Woodson 18 - South Lakes 2.

Friday, May 13
Cavs Big Winner In District Semi-Final
The Cavs once again had a great team effort to come away with a 19-5 win over Marshall in the Liberty District Semi-Final tonight. Next up will be the District Final on Tuesday against Langley,7pm at Lee High School.

Saturday, May 14
5K Raccoon Run 2005
Girls on the WTW Lax team ran a 5k in the 2005 Raccoon Run today. The event is in memory of Roberta Romano, a 5th grade teacher at Mantua, mother of team member Alexa, who lost her battle with breast cancer in December 2001. In her honor, all proceeds benefit Inova Fairfax Hospital Life With Cancer. Runners were: Frances, Katie, Mick, Lindsay, Jackie, Kim, Chelsea, Rachelle, Sarah, Meg, and JV coach Rosie. Volunteers were: Alexa, Meredith and Alicia.

Cavs are 2005 Liberty District Champions!
The Cavs beat Langley tonight 12-6 to claim their sixth consecutive Liberty District title.
First Round of Regional Play will be Thursday, May 19th against Thomas Jefferson at Woodson beginning at 5:30pm.


Thursday, May 19
Regionals - WTW Advance to Quarterfinals
The Cavs defeated Thomas Jefferson 16-5 to advance to quarterfinals in the regional tournament. Qtr-final game will take place on Wednesday, May 25th, 5:30pm at Woodson. We will be taking on West Springfield. GO CAVS!!

Quarterfinals Rescheduled
Our game against West Springfield has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 26th at 5:30pm.

Washington Post All-Met
Congrats to Ashley McCulloch for being selected to the Washington Post All-Met First Team. Click on WTW Pictures to see AMAC with her awards!

High School All Tewaaraton Team Award
Congrats to Ashley McCulloch for being named to the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Region "High School All Tewaaraton Team." The top regional players in each position have been selected from a preseason watch list of 50 women.

WTW Advances to Semi Finals of Regionals
Woodson advanced to the semifinals of the regional tournament tonight with a solid win over West Springfield. Our next opponent is Lake Braddock, who defeated Westfield tonight. The semis will take place on June 1st at Oakton High School. The first game will be at 6pm and will pit Oakton against Annandale. The Woodson-Lake Braddock game will take place at 8pm. Go Cavs!!!

Cavs Advance to Regional Finals!
The Cavs beat a tough Lake Braddock team tonight 12-9 to advance to the regional finals on Saturday. The game will be at Woodson at 5pm and we will be taking on Oakton. GO CAVS!!!

Saturday, June 4
WT Woodson Cavs Repeat as Regional Champions!!
In dramatic fashion, the Cavs came from 4 goals down to win the regional championship in the last 33 seconds of the game tonight against a very good Oakton team. Final score was 10-9. They did it with exceptional teamwork, and great perseverance. Woodson players named to the all tournament team were: Ashley McCulloch, Alicia Personne, Kim Feeney and Mick Seigo.

The State Championship game will be on Saturday, June 11th at Woodson, time to be announced later this week.

State Championship Game
The State Championship Game will take place on Saturday, June 11th, at Woodson. Opening draw will take place at 2pm and we will take on Albemarle in a repeat of last year's championship game. GO GET 'EM CAVS!!!!

STATE CHAMPS AGAIN!!!!!
Woodson repeated as State Champions on Saturday, June 11th with a 20-4 victory over Albemarle High School. This was Woodson's 15th straight victory and improved the team's record to 20-1-1 on the season. In the 8 postseason games covering the District, Region, and State Tournaments Woodson outscored it's opponents 124-46. Great Season Cavaliers!!
