Spring 2010 Tryouts Information

AGE DETERMINATION

Any player eligible to participate in WLL baseball, who is league age 7-12 years old, and is NOT returning to a major division team, should attend one of the tryouts.  Depending on a player’s age, they may be required to tryout (refer to Local League Rules).  A player’s league age is their age as of April 30th, 2010.

WHO SHOULD COME TO TRYOUTS

  • In general, all 9-12 year old kids should tryout.
  • All 12 year olds not already franchised to a major division team must tryout or they will not be eligible to play
  • 10 and 11 year olds who do NOT tryout will be placed by random draw on a Minor AAA team and will not be eligible to play in Majors.
  • 9 year olds who do NOT tryout will be placed by random draw on a Minor AA team and will not be eligible to play Minor AAA or Majors.
  • 7- 8 year olds who do NOT tryout will play in the Farm division and will not be eligible for Minor AA or AAA.

THE DRAFT

The Junior, Major, Minor AAA and Minor AA division teams are determined by a draft. By signing up for Little League Baseball you may not choose which team, coach, or players your child will play with.  The final decision is left to the Managers and the local Board of Directors.

PROCESS

The Managers will attend the tryouts and evaluate each player.  All children attending tryouts will be selected in a draft by a Manager, based on the child’s ability to play. If your child is drafted on a Major team, it is because the Manager feels they have the ability to play at that level.  The same applies for other divisions.

CALL UPS

Sometimes the need arises for a Major team to call a player up from one of the lower divisions at the draft or during the season.  If this happens, the Player Agent will call the parent of the child the Manager wishes to draft up.  The child cannot, and will not be directly contacted by the Manager of any team for this purpose.  The parent will be asked if their child would like to move up.  It is a testament to a player’s skill level to be asked to move up during the season. The parent and player must notify the Player Agent within 24 hours of their decision.  If a player chooses not to move up, they forfeit any chance of being moved up again for the remainder of the season.

2010 TRYOUT SCHEDULE

Please arrive at least ½ hour prior to your scheduled time in order to check in at the registration area and have time to get warmed up.
