American Legion Baseball - Western NY District VIII - 2018

Welcome to  American Legion Baseball/ District VIII/ State of New York

DEPEW POST 1528 FALLS in STATE SEMIFINALS

Depew Post (22-5), the regular season and playoff champs, marched through the first two rounds in the ALB Department of NY Tournament over the weekend to set up a showdown with the two-time defending champs, Rockland County on Monday night.  Nerves finally caught up with our heroes as five errors and 12 walks later Rockland came away with a 9-5 victory.  Then after jumping out to a 2-0 first inning cushion against Rayson-Miller from Pittsford last night, sloppy play in the second inning did our guys in.  Errors fueled a 5-run rally by RM and they went on to eliminate Depew 6-3.  Rayson Miller must now defeat Rockland twice today in the finals. The winner will make a trip to Purcellville, Virginia next week for a date with the Delaware champ on Wednesday to kick off the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

 Previous Posts

Depew stormed back from a 7-2 setback on Friday night, with a doubleheader sweep of Jurek Post (14-8-1) on Saturday, 10-4 and 7-5.  The champs had scored only 11 runs in the first three games of the tournament before they busted out the bats in a big way on Saturday.  Still,  it wasn't easy against an extremely young  and resilient opponent.  Jurek erased a 4-0 deficit in the deciding game to grab the lead before Depew scored three in their final at bat to set off the celebration.

The balance and competitiveness of the league was once again on display as Depew becomes the fifth different Post to win the title in the last five years.  And it is the third consecutive year where the champion had to claw its way back after dropping the first game of the Final series.  Now it is on to Utica on Friday to represent District VIII in the ALB Department of NY Tournament.  Our champion's first game will be on Saturday at 5:00 at Murnane Stadium against the District V champ, Utica Post.

Next Wednesday, August 1st, Northtown Center in Amherst will be the venue for the Annual ALB All-Star Classic. The first game at 5:30 will be the Regional Scholastic Game featuring players that have yet to graduate from high school.  District VIII will host District VII (Rochester).  Then at 8:00, the Collegiate Game will feature the older players from our district against the AAABA All-Stars.
