West Monroe 28 vs Leesville 7
West Monroe started out great scoring early and taking a 14-0
lead, but costly mental errors kept Leesville close.
LaDarius Abrams had 3 tds and rushed for 158 yards.
Eric Talton pounded out some yardage of his own and ended the night with
85 yards. D.J Banks will be a force once he settles down a little
bit. He made some great reads and was 5 for 10 passing, but he can
get better. He connected with Joel Barfield for a 40 yard pass,
but overthrew some receivers that we open. Once D.J. settles in
with this offense, we will have a shot at another title.
We gave Leesville many second chances because of costly penalties.
Between the pass interference calls and the jumping offsides on
3rd down possessions, Leesville was able to have a shot to keep it close.
Leesville had 338 yards total offense to West Monroe's 328.
On the DeFensive side of the ball, the Rebels kept Michael Ford
contained until he broke a 90 yard run in the 2nd half.
The td was saved by Tyler Glynn who pushed him out at the 5 yard line.
With the score 14-7 and Leesville having a chance to tie the game,
David Eley recover a fumble and raced 88 yards for a DeFensive td
for the Rebels. Leesville should have a great season with all of the talent
they have. The Rebels need to work out some flaws on needless metal
mistakes and they will be fine.
West Monroe 14 Neville 6
The Rebels did not show much, but they did what they had to do to
pull out a win vs Neville. D.J. Banks connected with Adrien Manning for
a 18 yard td and LaDarius Abrams rushed for another td to win the
Bayou Jamb.
It's the day we have been looking for since last year, football
is here! Our players must get all they can out of this jamboree
because it will be 2 weeks before we play again. Our opener
vs Thibodaux looks to have been canceled because of Gustav.
I wish all of the people down South and across the the Gulf
to be safe and get prepared for this Major Hurrican which
is a category 3 and at 120 mph as of 7:00 a m. Saturday.
It looks like Hurricane Gustav will be in the Gulf of Mexico
by Sunday and may hit Louisiana near where we play Thibodaux
next week. I wonder if the coaches are considering moving that
game to Rebel Stadium if that occurs.
We will be helping Dan Thursday at First Baptist Church for
the annual Rebel Club Kickoff meal. Dan's Southern Style
Bar-b-q will be cooking Steaks and Shrimp for all Rebel
Club members and coaches. The coaches will also be present
and will give a projected outlook for this season.
West Monroe vs Neville at ULM this coming Saturday in the

Rebel Stadium had many fans packed in to watch the Rebels showcase
what they have to offer for 2008.
West Monroe was ahead of West Ouachita 21-0 when I left around 8:00
tonight. D.J. Banks connected with Joel Barfield for about a 70 yard td
and LaDarius Abrams had a rushing td. I saw some big hits by
Josh Zeigler and Mingo. The team has alot of speed and should
be very explosive on offense and stingy on DeFense.
Go Rebs!
West Monroe will scrimmage West Ouachita Thursday at West Monroe
starting at 5:00 p.m. . Be There!
West Monroe is ranked 55 in the Rivals preseason top 100.
Congratulations Rebs!
Less than 2 weeks and counting before the jamboree vs Neville!
This should be a great afternoon for high school football in our area.
The Rebels will scrimmage West Ouachita this Friday at West Ouachita.
Rebel fans, I know you are anticipating the upcoming season as much as I am. I have been hearing alot of good things about this year's team and I know they will be ready!
I see the Rebels had great scores in the Nike combine and are one of the elite teams so far. I believe this team may go a long way this year.
Dandy Don has the Rebels as the #1 team in his preseason poll!
Go Rebs!
