WHITEMARSH LITTLE LEAGUE TEE BALLER SELECTED TO PLAY BALL AT THE WHITE HOUSE

Dear Whitemarsh Little League Families:

I am very pleased to let you know that one of our very own Whitemarsh Little League tee ball players, Shannon Friday, recently returned from the South Lawn All-Star game that was played on July 16, 2008.

Shannon was selected to represent the state of Pennsylvania in the first Tee Ball on the South Lawn All-Star Game at the White House in Washington, D.C. Only one player from each state and the District of Columbia was afforded this honor.  Shannon's parents, Erin and Eric, and her two brothers, Colin and Sean, traveled to the White House with Shannon to watch the game.

A couple of months ago, our league distributed an email to our tee ball managers letting them know that their players could submit an application to play at the White House. Shannon's parents completed the application, and I attached a letter of nomination. The Little League Nomination Committee accepted Shannon's nomination over all of the Little Leagues in Pennsylvania.

Prior to the start of the game, the Fridays were given a tour of several rooms in the East Wing and State Floor of the Executive Mansion. Following the tour, everyone was escorted to the South Lawn, where the field was set up. The Fridays were seated in the bleacher seats, a few rows behind President Bush, where they cheered on Shannon and her team, the East.  At the end of the game, Shannon was called out of the dugout to meet President Bush on the field. Shannon received a baseball bearing the President’s autograph and had the above photo taken with the President and baseball Hall of Famer Frank Robinson.

Following the festivities, Shannon and her family enjoyed a picnic on the South Lawn with the other players and their families.  Shannon's picture will hang in the White House along with the 50 other players on a plaque that was presented to the President by Little League International.  She is now an official All-Star member of the South Lawn Sluggers. CONGRATULATIONS SHANNON!

Sincerely,

Mike Fink, WLL President

REGISTER FOR 2008 "WLL" FALL BASEBALL
Dear Whitemarsh Little League Parent:

Whitemarsh Little League will once again offer a fall baseball program for players who just can't get enough baseball during the spring and summer. "Fall Ball" is for players league age 8 and up (players must turn 8 years old prior to May 1, 2009). We play in-house games and games with other local communities at Miles Park and at other nearby fields (e.g., Conshohocken, Plymouth, East Norriton, etc.). The program is instructional in nature, which means that we do not keep standings, and there are no playoffs or trophies. Games are played on Friday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons or early evenings. Games will begin on or about Friday, September 5th and continue until Sunday, October 26th. Weeknight practices are limited due to school and other activities.

Teams are generally limited to 12 players per team, so please sign up early, as players will be assigned on a first come first served basis. If necessary, players who register late will be placed on a waiting list until there are enough players to form an additional team.

This fall season's registration fees are as follows:

- $55 for one player ON OR BEFORE 8/15/08 and $75 AFTER 8/15/08
- $100 for two or more players per family ON OR BEFORE 8/15/08 and $120 AFTER 8/15/08

Please complete the attached registration form and mail it along with your check to "Whitemarsh Little League, PO Box 99, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444."

If you are interested in volunteering as a manager, coach, umpire, or in some other capacity, please contact Fall Ball Commissioner Pete Leahy at peterleahy@aol.com.
