New Member Process
Greetings from the Membership Committee. Hopefully, all those who have been involved with the Winter Club membership process have been pleased with the experience. I wanted to update you on the membership procedure and on some recent changes.
The membership process has been developed over the years and is designed to graciously move candidates, sponsors, and letter writers through a delicate procedure. The process consists of: the application, introduction to the WC board, initial posting, submission of supporting letters, membership committee investigation, cocktail party, second posting, and WC Board approval. This process should take approximately four months.
Bottlenecks usually develop in two places: First, in the collection of the supporting letters. (Sponsors - please send me the supporting letters as a package.) Second, in the arranging of the candidate cocktail party. Candidate cocktail parties can be combined (max of three new candidates) and we ask that written invitations be sent to all members of the Winter Club Board and their spouses, as well as, to all members of the Membership Committee.
As a reminder, club members are permitted to be involved in the membership process once per Winter Club season (each 12 month period ending March 31). One must have been a member of the club for three seasons (a change from two) to sponsor or support a new candidate. It is the sponsor's obligation that their candidate is "well known" to at least two members of the Winter Club Board AND two members of the Membership Committee to start the membership process. Note: All sponsor and supporting letters are to be written and signed by both spouses.
The Winter club membership is healthy and active but we are beginning to feel the limits of our physical facilities. The rink and platform tennis usage is nearing it's capacity and we feel that we have an obligation to maintain a high "quality of life" for all current members. We now require one resignation for every new member accepted to the Winter Club. However, I foresee the establishment of a waiting list given the demand for new memberships.
The Membership Committee is the following: Bill & Cathleen Callahan, Denis & Winn Cullen, Julie Darby, John & Sandy Finley, Candido & Sharon Fuentes, Rob & Jane Holden, Brad & Susan Roche, John & Patti Wagner, and Peter & Vaira Van Son (HCC). Please feel free to contact anyone on the membership committee with any questions or concerns. I think you will find everyone understands the importance of the proper treatment of any and all conversations.
