MEET OUR COACHES!

Emily Zayatz

Emily played at Merrimon Christian (now Carolina Christian) for 4 years as well as playing in different leagues in Chapel Hill while attending UNC Chapel Hill where she graduated with a BA in International Studies and Russian. Emily officiated at Chapel Hill and officiated for Carolina Region and in Big South Qualifiers for the past 2 years. She was also an NCAA line judge. Emily just got home in May from serving in the Peace Corps in Ukraine and is really eager to get back into volleyball. "I love Christ and look forward to leading by example with my girls. I bring to the table a love for the game and a knowledge that goes beyond playing. I think the most important thing about playing volleyball is having fun and giving 100% all the time. I can't wait to see what God is going to do with me this season!"

Bonnie Dotson
"I have been playing volleyball since I was old enough to know what a ball is. I was born in West Palm Beach, FL. I moved here when I was 11 years young. I graduated and played volleyball at AC Reynolds HS. I got married after a year in college. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful girls from God. I love this game and the doors that God has opened for me and the opportunities I have had to show Christ's love. That is why I do what I do. Yes, I love to win - who doesn't - but I like the bigger picture much better.

Cori Emory
Cori is from Boiling Springs, SC and is a freshman at Brevard College. She is majoring in Elementary Education & minoring in coaching. She plays defensive specialist for Brevard College Women's Volleyball Team. Cori played volleyball in school and club since she was in the 7th grade and was named to the Hillcrest Invitational All Tournament Team her senior year in high school. She was a three-year letterman and team captain her senior year in high school. Cori brings with her an excitement for Christ and a love of the game.

Jessica Huntley
Jessica was born and raised in Asheville, NC, attended Asheville Christian Academy for 13 years, played on a four time state championship team and currently is a junior at Montreat College where she plays libero. "I have also played for two years for WNC both under Coach Mike Pace. But most importantly, I was saved when I was 6 and rededicated my life in 2000. Over all I have played 10 years of volleyball so this means I have dedicated half of my life to volleyball since I am 20 years old. My dream is to give back to the girls, that are just starting out, what I have learned and hopefully give them a little spiritual guidance along the way."

Dave McKinley
Dave attended Trinity University in Texas and played for the men's volleyball team. After graduation, he played men's USVBA for 4 years and started coaching school volleyball in 1999. This is his 6th season coaching for WNC. He has also coached for the Carolina Region High Performance teams and presently at Veritas Christian Academy. Many of Coach McKinley's players have gone on to play college volleyball.

Rebecca Miller
Becca was born and raised in Fairview, NC, attended Carolina Christian school and played volleyball there for 4 years and played for Veritas Christian Academy for 2 years. She played with the Biltmore Club for 3 years and the WNC club for 2 years. She received All Tournament 2005 & 2006 honors and the Coaches Award in 2006. "I am currently attending Montreat College and play on their volleyball team. I was saved when I was 7 and I hope to show Christ to the girls through everything I do."

Sharon Orr
Sharon has been playing volleyball for 23 years, through high school, intramurals in college, club, tournament and recreational volleyball after college. This will be her fifth year coaching with WNC. Sharon is a joy to be around and is always looking to improve her knowledge of volleyball.

Mike Pace
Mike grew up in southern California. Volleyball has been a big part of his life - as a player for over 30 years and a coach for 6. As a player, his collegiate career was cut very short, but he played at the highest USVBA (now USAV) level for many years. As a coach, his desire is to pour his life into the lives of the girls and their families. "Jesus radically saved me in 1994 and since that time, Jesus has been my Lord and my God, the Savior of my soul and my life. God called me to 'coach girls volleyball' over six years ago, even before moving to NC. My coaching philosophy is to motivate and encourage each girl to develop a positive attitude (sportsmanship), to challenge each player to rise above their perceived level of play, to introduce new techniques to enhance their abilities, to produce a positive experience for all and to glorify God in all that we do. Our times of devotion are used to learn the Bible and how to apply biblical truths to our lives. I'm looking forward to another great season with the WNC Volleyball Club & Ministry!"

Donna Russell
Donna - I have been officiating high school volleyball for 27 years and have coached volleyball for many years. This club was a gift from God to me as a director. I love the Lord and love pouring my life into this club, the coaches, the girls and parents that I serve. Every year I sit back and watch as God grows us in Him and His Kingdom. I CANNOT WAIT to see how God is going to bless the lives of each person involved this coming club season!

La Shea Smith
"Hello - my  name is La Shea Smith! I look forward to coaching volleyball again. I played volleyball at East Henderson High School and also played with WNC for a few years, totaling 13 seasons of volleyball. I love Christ, kids and volleyball, so needless to say - I'm very excited to be around the sport again while doing all the things that I love at one time!"
