Premiere 16" Softball League on the West Coast
Chicago Style 16” Softball has arrived in Los Angeles! If you don’t already know (and love) it, the game we play is different from what you might be used to in traditional softball. The ball is bigger, about the size of a cantaloupe. There isn’t a glove or mitt that could hold it, so we don’t use them. That’s right, we don’t use gloves in 16” softball. We get out there and bare hand it just like they used to do in the early days of baseball. That's Windy City Softball.

WELCOME TO WINDY CITY SOFTBALL
Interest in playing in Windy City 16" Softball. Come on out and play Chicago ball at anytime!
Whether the next season is in preparation or the current season has already started and most teams are full, It is never a bad time to join the league. Seasons generally play from March-June in the Spring and from September-December in the Fall.
If a season has already started there are undoubtedly some roster spots available on some teams. Most teams need subs on a regular basis and encourage newcomers to come out and pick up a game as a sub..
Here are a few tips on how to get on a team this season or next.
A few easy ways to join Windy City Softball:
Joining as an Individual:
- STEP 1: Let the team captains know you're interested/available: Simply email join@windycitysoftball.com and request to have your email information, and any other contact information you'd like, sent directly to the coaches and they will contact you regarding your availability should an opening occurs on their roster.
- STEP 2: Come out and sub for teams: Subbing for missing players is common and free, and open to everyone. Put yourself on the "Sub Email List." This is a list posted on the WCS website that is accessible to team captains regarding available subs. Teams will email you to check your availability to sub on any given weekend. Subbing is a great way to meet a team, build a rapport, and get to know people in the league. Many players sub regularly for teams they like and when a spot opens up they are usually offered the roster seat first. Make teams aware you're there to sub and sub often.
- The league is holding pickup games at 5:30 p.m. every Sunday. These games are free, non-competitive, and great for practice and for getting into the league. They're designed to allow newcomers a place to practice, meet players and coaches, and help new players find a home on a team. Come as often as possible but come early to make sure you get on a team. Pickup game attendance varies. If you are interested in playing in the pickup game please reply to this email address (commissioner@windycitysoftball.com) prior to each weekend and you will be put on the list. Once there find Louie Pradt or Brad Simmons on Diamond #1 and they will start the game (games are played on Diamond #2)
- Prior to the pickup game are regular league games. Come early for the league games and see if you can sub onto a team in various league games throughout the day (game schedules are posted online -they start every Sunday at 1:00, 2:30, 4:00, and 5:30). Teams are encouraged to pick up subs who play in the pickup games.
- Put together a full team of 10 guys/gals and come into the league as a full team next season.
If you would like your name and email address added to the WEBSITE SUB LIST displayed on the website (only accessible by WCS members)please reply to this email with the words "Please Add to Site" in the subject heading.
