John Lowery Sr.
Position: Manager..Jefferson HS
Profile: A native of Charles Town, WV, John E. Lowery grew up loving baseball. As a three-sport (football, basketball, and baseball) participant, John graduated from Charles Town High School in 1963, where he was named as co-winner of the school’s outstanding senior athlete award. He then attended Potomac State College, the United States Naval Academy (only 1 year) and Fairmont State College where he received his undergraduate degree in 1969. John finished his education at West Virginia University by earning a Master’s Degree in 1971.

While in college, John participated in baseball at all the schools he attended. He was a member of WV Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship teams at Fairmont State in 1967 and 1968.

John returned to his native Jefferson County to begin a teaching and coaching career in 1969. He coached three sports (football, basketball, and baseball) for 17 seasons. His tenure as a Head Varsity Baseball Coach will enter its 39th season in the spring of 2009. After two years at now defunct Harpers Ferry High School, John moved to Jefferson High School where he continues today. In 36 seasons at JHS, John’s teams have won 9 State Championships, 21 Regional Championships, and 24 Sectional Titles. In addition, his Cougars were State Runner-ups four times. Jefferson’s appearances in 13 State Championship games is a state record along with their 9 State Titles. The Cougars also have won 20 or more games in 32 consecutive seasons, including 30 or more on 17 occasions. In March 2009, John won his 1000th career game becoming only the 10th high school coach (according to the NFHS) to reach that mark. His current record is 1027-266-3.
Lowery Sr. was an Royals assistant for the 2009 season.
Lowery Sr. returns as manager for the 2010 season.
