We started out the 2011 season hoping for a good points finish and some top 3 finishes, but we never imagined we could win the Championship. It is always our goal to go and win each and every race and to win Championships, but this would be Nicholas’ first full year in the Micro, and we were dealing with some very serious and stiff competition at East Lincoln Speedway. Nicholas started out the year pretty strong, but we struggled with a very rough track which hurt our small driver with some strength issues. We made major adjustments to the car, and Nicholas continued to work on his upper body strength. His first of many heat race wins would come early on though. It was a very special win as it had been a long time since Nicholas had won a race and it was against a serious field of competitors. Mid season brought many consistent finishes and some dumb mechanical breakages that kept us out of winning a main. Mid season would also bring Nicholas’ first flip in a Micro. As the end of the season approached, we saw a chance to win the championship so our focus on this goal became intense at times. However, more mechanical issues that took forever to figure out kept us running but also kept us from winning. In the end everything finally worked out for Nicholas, and we achieved the goal that we thought would be out of reach for us this year. A big thanks goes out to all East Lincoln Drivers. Some great competition from these guys every week kept our drive fired up and our driver focused. Also we could not be doing or have done this without help from: Dan Jones, his family and all of Dan’s crew, Butler Built Seats, Adams Performance, Diversified Finishers, Talon Chassis and Nicholas’ fans. We can only hope that 2012 brings bigger and better things for Nicholas and Wilt Racing.

Well, after what seemed like a very short break, Wilt Racing and Nicholas are looking forward to a really great year of micro sprint racing at East Lincoln. We were able to get a few upgrades done to the car to be more competitive in this extremely fast class. Guess we’ll see if it pays off. We were also somewhat pleased that Nicholas finally hit the 100 lb mark during the break, but on the other hand, we were worried he wouldn’t fit into his custom made seat by Butler; however, it looks like it will last him a little bit longer. East Lincoln made some great changes to the configuration of their track over the winter break which should make for some really great and exciting racing. Once again, thanks to the many people who have helped us with Nicholas’ car! Click on the 2011 link to see all of his updates.

2010 brought HUGE changes to Wilt Racing due to LOTS of UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR and HARRASSMENT from QMA & the NCQMA club towards our family, but mostly directed at Nicholas. We were basically forced out of their club by a group in charge (aka well known local chassis builder) (along with other well-known, prominent QMA members). So, we decided it was time to make the big move and get Nicholas into another form of racing. This is something we had considered in years past but never felt we had the proper funding to make the move. We thought hard about the Allison Legacy series, Ford Focus Midgets and the Pro Challenge series, but in the end Chris and Nicholas decided on staying in an open-wheel car. We talked hard to everyone who watched Nicholas race, Kevin and Paul at Talon and along with Dan Jones we decided Micro Sprint racing would be our next adventure. So, Wilt Racing bought a 600 Micro Sprint for Nicholas to race on the dirt at East Lincoln Speedway. We had to sell 2 quarter midget cars, all of our engines and lots of parts to accomplish this. Unfortunately, it has come at the expense of taking Kaitlyn out of quarter midget racing for 2010 and Zachary missing out on his novice training for the 2nd year in a row (again thanks to the malicious actions, fueled by lots of jealousy, of the previously mentioned groups).
On one bright side of this situation, Dan Jones has continued to be a great friend and sponsor for Nicholas. Dan has a ton of experience with racing these types of open wheel cars. He has been a terrific asset in helping us learn how to work on the car and teaching Nicholas how to drive this new race car! Nicholas would have lots to learn from using a hand clutch, shifting gears, using tear-offs, etc… and the biggest challenge – racing on dirt!!
This form of racing also brings changes for Mom, Kaitlyn and Zachary as well. They now have to be like spectators. Unlike quarter midgets, they can’t be in the trailer and pits with Nicholas to see what is going on. Due to pit fees it would cost too much for everyone to get into the pits. Thankfully, Nicholas and Chris can come up to the stands quite often to give them updates.
