EAST JV TRYOUT DATES SET
The tryouts for the JV team will be held on Saturday Oct.30 from 7 AM- 7:50 AM and also from 5;00 PM - 6:50 PM at the Amherst Pepsi Center Olympic rink. The third and fourth tryout sessions will be on Saturday November 6 and Sunday Novemeber 7 both from 6:00 AM - 7:20 AM on Rink 2 at the Amherst Pepsi Center. Any player who wants to play on the JV squad MUST attend the tryout sessions. Anyone with questions can contact Head Coach Pat Annese at 636-8526 or JV Manager Dan Howaniec at 689-1730. The cost of the sessions are $40 and are due before Oct.30. Checks can be made out to Williamsville East JV Hockey and submitted to Dan Howaniec. Info will be announced during school and info sheets can also be obtained at school. The squad will be picked after the final tryout session. There will be a parents/coaches meeting on Thursday November 11 at 7 PM at the East Amherst Fire Hall on Transit & Muegel Rd. Parking is available in the lot across Muegel Road. The team player fees (the final figures have not yet been determined)will be due at this time.

VARSITY TRYOUT DATES
Coach Torrillo has scheduled the varsity tryout dates as follows: Nov.1 3:30 PM Nov.3 3:30 PM and Nov. 4 7 PM all sessions at the Amherst Pepsi Center. If extra tryout sessions are needed they will be on Monday Nov. 8 at 3:30 PM. All players are encouraged to attend the varsity tryouts. All players attending the tryouts MUST have an up to date physical form completed from the high school nurse's office. If not, you will not be allowed on the ice.

Chiavetta's Chicken BBQ
The East hockey program is sponsoring the world famous Chiavetta's chicken BBQ on Thursday November 18 from 3:15 PM to 6:15 PM in the East school commons area. The cost is $7.50 per dinner and you must redeem 1 ticket per dinner. All varsity and JV players were given 10 tickets to sell with additional tickets available. All tickets both soild and un-sold must be returned by Thursday Nov.11. Contact varsity manager Joe Guadagnino with any questions. If any parents are available to help out,please contact Mary Ross. VARSITY & JV OPENERS
Both the varsity and JV squads open their 2004-2005 seasons this week end. The varsity will be playing in the Early Bird Tournament against Webster on Friday and Sweet Home on Saturday. The JV has league games against Sweet Home JV on Saturday and St.Joe's JV on Sunday.

JV OPEN SEASON WITH 2 WINS
The Williamsville East JV opened their NFJVHA season with 2 wins this past weekend. On Saturday, East got 2 goals and 1 assist each from Rob Schifferli and Chuck Adamo to defeat the Sweet Home JV 7-1. Schifferli opened the scoring at 4:25 of the first assisted by Adamo and Phil Bermel. In the 2nd period after Schifferli (assisted by Bermel) scored his 2nd of the game, Gary Styn (Tyler Durinka) and Kyle Murray (Dan Tyx/Ryan Caudill) scored powerplay goals to up the lead to 4-0 after 2 periods. Chuck Adamo scored at 33 seconds of the 3rd period from Tanya Ford and again at 6:05 assisted by Schifferli to boost the lead to 6-0. Just 46 seconds later, Michael Esposito from Durinka closed the scoring for East. Sweet Home's Alex Esposito scored their lone goal at 7:42 of the third period. East's goaltending duties were shared by Matt Bradley and Alex Pilat as they stopped 17 of 18 Shots. while East had 29 shots on the Sweet Home net.
The JV squad won their 2nd straight game the next day on Sunday defeating St.Joe's 3-0 behind the shutout goaltending of Steve Buckolt. The JV Flames scored in each period with Colin Lucey opening the scoring at 6:37 of the 1st period assisted by Ryan Caudill. East dominated play throughout much of the period outshooting St.Joe's 13-4. The 2nd period was much the same, East carrying play but enable to score until Jonathan Gambacorta off Garrett Olson's assist scored with 24 seconds left in the period to boost the East lead to 2-0. Gambacorta's second of the game closed the scoring at 3:26 of the final period. Gary Styn and Olson assisted on the goal. East outshot St.Joe's 36-8 for the game. East JV Coach Pat Annese was very pleased with his defense and overall strong effort from the entire team.

VARSITY WINS EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT
The East varsity won the Amherst Early Bird Tournament this past week end defeating Webster 2-0 on Friday and tying Sweet Home 2-2 on Saturday. They were declared winners by virtue of a better goal differential. In the Friday game East got goals from Anthony Clair and Alex Durinka and in Saturday's contest Durinka scord both goals.

WILL NORTH JV SHUTS OUT EAST JV 5-0
Williamsville North JV dominated most of the game enroute to their 5-0 win over the JV team. Matt Bradley played well in goal despite the 5 goals against. East had few quality scoring chances in this game. Ryan Caudill, Tonya Ford, Phil Bemel and Jon Gambacorta were the other East players with strong games.

East Varsity Edge Saratoga 3-1
The varsity got two powerplay goals from Jason Tartick within 2 minutes in the first period and then hung on to defeat Saratoga 3-1. Eric Charlton and Anthony Clair assisted on the first goal while Alex Durinka assisted on the second tally. Durinka scored an empty net goal from Tartick with 12 seconds left in the game to ice the win. Jarrod Etengoff went the distance in goal and stopped 16 of 17 shots while East had 19 shots against Saratoga.

Kenmore East JV Defeats East JV 5-2
East JV lost 5-2 to Kenmore East JV in a scrimmage game last night at Brighton Arena. The East JV goal scorers were Colin Lucey and Gary Styn. Alex Pilat had a strong game in goal and could not be faulted on any of the goals. The East JV had too many lapses on defense and were out-skated too much of the time.

EAST VARSITY DEFEATS BATAVIA 6-2
Alex Durinka scored 2 goals and assisted on a third and Jason tartick had 1 goal and 3 helpers to pace the attack. Jon Toole scored a goal and added an assist, while Mike Terryberry and Paul Clair netted goals their first goals of the year. Adding assists were Jon Klimek, Matt Gelia, Sean Sheeran. and Joe Spellman. Lyle Rocker got the win in goal, his 2nd of the year.

JV EDGES AMHERST 14-6
The JV squad (hockey) defeated Amherst 14-6 last nite. Mike Vacarro led the scoring with the 3 goal hat trick while Anthony Naples and Mike Esposito added 2 goals each. Ryan Caudill added three assists in addition to scoring a goal himself. East led 6-1 after the first, with 3 of the goals coming off the power play. After that the East defense got sloppy as they also allowed 3 powerplay goals by Amherst. East outshot Amherst 40-17. Steven Bukolt played the first 2 periods allowing 3 goals to get the win while Alex Pilat played the final period. EAST VARSITY WINS FED SEASON OPENER 2-1
The East varsity edged out Sweet Home 2-1 on Saturday to open their 2004 2005 WNY Federation season. After Sweet Home took a 1-0 in the first period, Kyle Smith scored his first varsity goal to tie the score at 1-1 at the 8:50 mark. Good work by Chris Fabozzi and Sean Sheeran to earn the assists. Anthony Clair scored the game winner on the power play with 33 seconds left in the second period. Jason Tartick received the lone assist as he made a nice feed to Clair in the slot. Jarod Etengoff earned the victory in goal stopping 13 of 14 shots. East had 25 shots on the Sweet Home net.

EAST JV TROUNCED BY MARAUDERS 7-3
The Marauders- St.Joe's JV defeated East JV 7-3 on Sunday afternoon. East fell behind early 2-0 and could never quite recover. East did not score until 4 minutes remained in the second period and the score was 4-0 Marauders. Colin Lucey scored his 4th of the year, as did Mike Vacarro. Tyler Durinka scored on the powerplay his 1st of the year. Matt Bradley and Steve Bukolt shared the goaltending chores.

KENMORE WEST JV OVER EAST JV 6-1
Kenmore West JV scored 3 1st period goals to hand the JV squad its 2nd consecutive loss 6-1. East dominated the first period but was unable to put anything in the net. Ken West scored 2 goals within a minute halfway thru the period and added a third with 2 seconds left to take a 3-0 lead after one period. Ken West added 2 more in the second before East came alive in the third with a better effort. Jon Gambacorta scored his 4th of the year for East.

EAST RALLIES TO TIE WILL SOUTH 4-4
Jon Toole scored at 5:23 of the third period to rally the varsity squad to a 4-4 tie against Williamsville South. Eric Charlton and Anthony Clair assisted on the score. East jumped to a 2-0 lead with first period goals 13 secondsboth while on the powerplay. Alex Durinka scored with a 2 man advantage from Bryan Shorthouse and Anthony Clair and just 13 seconds later Clair scored unassisted. After South scored to close to 2-1, Clair scored his 2nd of the game from Charlton to put East up 3-1. However, with 19 seconds left in the period South scored to make it 3-2 after a period. In the second, South scored twice to take a 4-3 lead which then set the stage for Toole's tying goal. Anthony Clair had 2 goals and 2 assists in the game.

JV RALLIES TO TIE TIMON
The JV squad came from 2 goals down twice to tie Timon 4-4. Colin Lucey tied the game at 4-4 with 5:33 remaining with assists from Gary Styn and JasonChristopher. Timon jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first 6 minutes of the game before Phil Bermel's blast from the point got East on the board. The powerplay goal was assisted by Mike Esposito in the late stages of the period. Jon Gambacorta tied the game at 2-2 early in the second period however, Timon got the lead back just a minute later and added a fourth goal 2 minutes later. In the third period, Dan Tyx scored his first goal of the year early in the period as East regained the momentum. Lucey later scored the tying goal and Matt Bradley with a couple good saves late in the period kept the game tied. Bram Sheeran and Esposito both had 2 assists in the game. Honorable mentions for solid play went to Matt Foster, Nick Blum, and Chuck Adamo.

KEN WEST EDGES EAST 5-4
Kenmore West defeated the varsity 5-4 on Saturday. Each team traded first period goals with Ken West taking a 2-1 lead after 2 periods. Bryan Shorthouse scored unassisted for the East goal. Ken West jumped all over East in the final period taking a 5-1 lead before East made a strong comeback. Alex Durinka scored on the powerplay to cut the lead to 5-2. Jason Tartick then scored on a breakaway and Spencer Barrett scored a minute later to close to 5-4 with half a period to play. East put pressure on the Ken West goal but could not get the tying goal.

EAST JV EDGES WILL SOUTH 2-1
Dan Tyx scored with 6 seconds left in the game to lift the JV team to a 2-1 victory over Williamsville South. After a scoreless first period which saw East outshoot South14-3, South drew first blood at 2;04 of the second period. Phil Bermel scored his third of the year to tie the game at 6:47. Tyler Durinka assisted on the powerplay score. The final period saw play go back & forth until Tyx scored his 2nd of the year unassisted. Steve Bukolt stopped 19 South shots,making several good saves in the final period to give East the chance to win.

VARSITY & JV POST WINS
The varsity team defeated Timon 4-3 last night while the JV squad shutout St.Joe's 6-0. The varsity received goals from Anthony Clair with a pair,Kyle Smith, and Alex Durinka with the game winner. The score was tied at 2-2 after 2 periods, when Anthony Clair netted his second of the game from Jamie Turchiarelli at the 1:27 mark. A little over 3 minutes later Durinka netted his goal from Spencer Barrett. After that Jarrod Etengoff made several key saves to secure the win. East killed off three third period penalties a couple of which were very questionable calls. Etengoff stopped 34 of 37 shots while East put 21 shots on the Timon net. The JV team got a hat trick from another Durinka, as Alex's younger brother Tyler netted 3 goals to help defeat St.Joe's 6-0 at Lincoln Arena. Gary Styn added 2 goals and Garrett olson scored 1 goal. Chuck Adamo, Tonya Ford and Colin Lucey each added 2 assists. Steve Bukolt and Alex Pilat shared the shut out in goal for the JV.Bram Sheeran made his presence known with several crushing body checks.

The East varsity defeated Sec. 3 Solvay 4-2 on Friday and then defeated Sec.3 New Hartford 3-2 in double overtimeon Saturday to win the Batavia Tournament.

JV WINS THIRD IN ROW
The East JV defeated Amherst JV Saturday 3-1 for their third consecutive win in league play. Garrett Olson scored the first goal early in the opening period and Gary Styn netted a powerplay goal late in the period to give East a 2-0 lead after a period. After a scoreless second period, Amherst scored a powerplay goal deflected off a skate to close to 2-1 with 3:18 left to play in the game. Tonya Ford scored a big insurance goal 2 minutes later to secure the win. Alex Pilat got his first win in goal with 2 shutout periods of play, Matt Bradley played the final period and had no chance on the lone Amherst goal.

HOLIDAY FOOD DELIVERY FOR THE NEEDY
Once again, Williamsville East hockey will be delivering turkeys, ham, and canned goods to the needy. We have partnered with Mr. Jack McNulty to obtain a large quantity of donated items. Both the Varsity and JV squads are asked to participate in this holiday tradition of East hockey. All available parents & players please meet at East High School by 10 AM on Dec.24. VARSITY OVER CANISIUS 4-1
The varsity led by strong goaltending from Jarod Etengoff and 2 goals from Alex Durinka defeated Canisius 4-1 last night. Although Canisius carried the play for most of the game and outshot East it was Etengoff's work in the nets,especially during the Canisius power plays that enable East to gain the victory. Alex Durinka opened the scoring at 4:20 of the 1st period assisted by Anthony Clair. Just under two minutes later, Canisius Matt Brownschidle got around the East defense to tie the game at 1-1.Durinka got the lead back at 2-1 with a goal from Jason Tartick at 11:51. In the 2nd period, East had to kill off numerous power plays including several times down 2 players. The penalty kills were 100% successful! In the final period, Eric Charleton scored at 11:24 from Kyle Smith to give East a huge insurance goal.Jon Toole closed the scoring at 13:32 on the power play from Charleton and A.Clair.

In a non-league scrimmage game, Lancaster JV with 3 goals in the 1st period defeated the JV 4-1. The JV squad was missing a few of their players due to illness for this game.Phil Bermel scored the only goal in the final period assisted by Colin Lucey.

The JV tournament pairings, dates & times have been posted by the tournament directors. The JV will be playing 2 games on Sat. Jan. 15 at Hyde Park. At 11:45 AM against Depew and again at 7:45 PM against Grosse Pointe,Michigan. No games on Sunday. On Monday Jan.17 we will play at 7 AM at Hockey Outlet against Grand Island. The championship game will be played at 1:10 PM on Monday at Hyde Park. We are in a 4 team division with the above teams. The other division is: Upper St. Clair, Pittsford, Starpoint, and Wheatfield. Williamsville East hockey took it on the chin Thursday. The varsity was defeated by St.Francis 4-2 in a Fed League game. The JV had 2 non-league games and lost both to Williamsville North JV 7-2 and Kenmore West JV 5-3.

VARSITY SHUTS OUT ST. JOE'S 1-0
Jarrod Etengoff stopped all 33 St.Joe's shots leading the varsity to a 1-0 triumph. Kyle Smith scored the only goal of the game at 5:33 of the first period unassisted. St.Joe's outshot East each period but were unable to get one past Etengoff. The game originally scheduled for Sat. 1/8 vs. Lancaster has been postponed until February 5 .

JV RALLIES TO TIE SWEET HOME
Ryan Caudill scored his third goal of the game to help the JV tie Sweet Home 5-5. Caudill scored with 1:12 left in the game assisted by Chuck Adamo. Sweet Home jumped to a quick 2-0 lead after just 1:20 of the first period. Phil Bermel's power play goal cut the lead to 2-1 at 2:36 before Sweet Home scored again to lead 3-1 after one. East came out storming in the second eventually taking a 4-3 lead on 2 goals by Caudill and one from Adamo but then gave up a goal on Sweet Home's only shot of the period. East outshot Sweet Home 28-1 in the period. Sweet Home's Alex Esposito scord with 5 minutes left (his 4th of the game) to put East down by one until Caudill's goal tied it. Tyler Durinka and Adamo contributed 2 assist each in the game. East outshot Sweet Home 48-22 for the game.

East JV Defeats Grand Island 2-0 In Blizzard Tourn
Depew JV defeated East JV 4-1 Saturday. Mike Esposito backhanded a rebound to give East a 1-0 in the first period. The shorthanded goal was set up by a face off win by Jon Gambacorta in Depew's end. However, Depew tied the score at 1-1 on the same penalty. Depew then scored once in the second and twice in the final period (the 4th goal into an empty net) to secure the win. East earned just 1/2 point of a possible 5 points in the game. Alex Pilat made several excellent saves in going the distance in goal.
On Sunday, The East JV team went toe to toe with Grosse Pointe,Michigan but came up on the short end of a 4-1 score. The game was physical,scrappy, and gritty from the start. After a scoreless first period, Grosse Point scored 3 second period goals to jump to a 3-0 lead. Mike Esposito scored his 2nd of the tournament early in the third to put the JV within 2 and swinging the momentum East's way. Grosse Point iced the win with 3 minutes to go. Both goalies Matt Bradley and Steve Bukolt played superb as did the entire team which did not back down once from the physical play! East earned 1 point of a possible 5 and has 1 1/2 points. Also great support was received from the parents at the game!
In the final game of the Tournament East JV earned third place by defeating Grand Island JV 2-0 at Hockey Outlet. After a scoreless periods 1 & 2, Gary Styn batted in a rebound at the 5:05 mark to score the game winning goal. Chuck Adamo added an insurance goal less than 2 minutes later. Alex Pilat (first 2 periods) and Matt Bradley shared the shutout goaltending making 12 total saves.

VARSITY WINS THEIR THIRD TOURNAMENT OF SEASON
Anthony Clair scored midway thru the second period of the championship game to give the East varsity a 2-1 over Gates-Chili in the Gates-Chili Tournament. In the opening game on Fridat night, East defeated Hilton 3-1. East has now won all three tournaments they have participated in this year!! The overall record stands at 12-2-2 on the year.

South JV Beats East JV 4-3
The East JV got off to a fast start,scoring in the first minute but it was pretty much it until the last 5-6 minutes of the game. Chuck Adamo scored from Ryan Caudill and Phil Bermel at the 31 second mark as East dominated early. Numerous penalties some justified others questionable slowed play and enabled South to gain momentum and outwork East most of the game. After falling behind 3-1, early in the 3rd period, Phil Bermel scored with 6 :08 left to close to 3-2 and East regained some life. But one minute later South scored to take a 2 goal lead again until Tonya Ford scored with 29 seconds left to make it 4-3. Ryan Caudill had 3 assists for East.

East - South Play to 5-5 Tie
Alex Durinka scored twice in the third period to rally East to a 5-5 tie against rival Williamsville South. Durinka's goals came at 3:12 and 5:09 of the third period. East fell behind 4-1 early in the second period before Anthony Clair scored twice to close the gap to 4-3. Clair's second goal was a power play marker. South added a goal late in the second to regain a 2 goal lead after 2 periods. Spencer Barrett opened the scoring in the first period at 6:13 from A.Clair and Durinka. Durinka finished the game with 2 goals and 3 assists, while Anthony Clair added 2 goals and 2 assists to continue his fine offensive season. Jason Tartick contributed 2 assists and Barrett had a goal and an assist.

East Shuts Out Amherst 3-0
Lyle Rocker stopped all 12 shots to lead the East varsity to a 3-0 win over Amherst. Jason Tartick scored early in the opening period off a pretty feed from Eric Charleton. East dominated the period outshooting Amherst 16-2. In the 2nd period, East continued to control play as Alex Durinka scored from Anthony Clair and then Kyle Smith closed the scoring from Durinka and Clair late in the middle period. East outshot Amherst 38-12 for the game.

Varsity Edges Ken West 3-1
Alex Durinka continued his hot scoring to lead the East varsity to a 3-1 win over Kenmore West at Buff State Ice Arena. Durinka scored one goal and assisted on the other 2 goals. After, Ken West took a 1-0 lead after a period, Kyle Smith scored off passes from Durinka and Andrew Ross at 40 seconds of the 2nd period to tie the game. Durinka scored from Smith at 13:40 to give East the lead for good. Anthony Clair netted an insurance goal off a pretty pass from Durinka with 1:51 left in the game. Jarrod Etengoff made several key saves in the final period to keep Ken West off the scoreboard.
EAST VARSITY RANKED SECOND IN STATE
The New York State Sportswriters Assoc poll has ranked the varsity No.2 in Division 2 in the state.

Varsity Defeats Frontier-Clinch Spot in States!!
East varsity clinched a spot in the State regionals by defeating Frontier 2-1 on Saturday. Coupled with a Williamsville South loss to Kenmore East by 6-2, East will play on Sat. March 5 against a school from Section 7 at the Amherst Pepsi Center! Anthony Clair scored 2 first period goals and Frontier added a late first period goal on a powerplay deflection for all the scoring in the game. Alex Durinka added 2 assists and Matt Gelia and Kyle Smith each contributed one helper. Coach Mike Torrillo's team now has a league record of 9-2-2 with 3 games remaining.

Ken East JV Over East JV 5-2
Kenmore East JV jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off an East comeback attempt to win 5-2 on Sunday. Mike Vaccaro and Mike Esposito scored 2nd period goals a little over 2 minutes apart to pull Will East to a 3-2 deficit after 2 periods. Steve Bukolt made several great stops over the 38 he faced in 2 1/2 periods of play and kept the score close enough during that time to enable the East to attempt the comeback.

East JV Tied by Starpoint JV 6-6
Starpoint JV scored 2 late goals to rally back to tie the JV 6-6 at Hyde Park last night. East recieved goals from 6 different players in this game- Justen Floss, Colin Lucey, Dan Tyx, Chris Wozniak, Mike Vaccaro, and Jon Gambacorta.Alex Rogers added 2 assists. All three goalies, Matt Bradley, Steve Bukolt, and Alex Pilat played a period each.

East defeated Kenmore East 4-1 last nite behind the steady goaltending of Lyle Rocker.

EAST VARSITY OVER LANCASTER 4-2
The varsity scored a big win over Lancaster 4-2 on Saturday. The victory gives East a 11-2-2 league record good for 24 points most in the league. Anthony Clair scored with 1:08 left in the game to break a 2-2 tie. It was a great solo effort off a faceoff win byClair who then stuffed the puck behind the Lancaster goalie. Jason Tartick scored an empty net goal with 3 seconds left to secure the win. Earlier, Alex Durinka scored a power play goal early in the opening period to give East a 1-0 lead. Lancaster tied the score at 1-1 after a period and took a 2-1 lead early in the second period. Anthony Clair scored a power play goal in the second period to tie it 2-2 after 2 periods. It was a total team effort turned in by everyone in this game.

Lancaster JV Wins Over JV 6-3
Lancaster JV scored 4 first period goals enroute to a convincing 6-3 win over the JV. East's line of Colin Lucey, Tyler Durinka, and Ryan Caudill accounted for all 3 goals, with each scoring once. Caudill gave East an early 1-0 lead at the 41 second mark, but Lancaster tied it just 19 seconds later. East regained a lead at 4:07 when Lucey scored. Again Lancaster ,tied it just a couple minutes later and then took the lead for good just another minute later. Lancaster led 4-2 after a period. Durinka made it 5-3 midway thru the second period but East could get no closer.

EAST TIES NORTH 2-2 Etengoff Stars
Jarrod Etengoff stopped 46 of 48 Williamsville North shots to help East battle to a 2-2 tie. After a scoreless first period, Andrew Ross scored a powerplay goal at 40 seconds of the second period. It remained 1-0 until North netted 2 quick goals very late in the period. Alex Durinka scored the tying goal on the powerplay at 6:46 of the final period and Etengoff almost single-handedly held off North the remainder of the way. EAST JV CLINCHES FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF BYE
The East JV ties Canisius Saturday night 3-3 and that along with Ken East defeating Will South enable the JV to clinch 2nd place and a first round playoff bye. The team intoduced their new black jerseys for this game and jumped to a 2-1 first period lead. Matt Foster wristed in his first JV goal at 8:51 from Ryan Caudill andGary Styn while Caudill scored in the last minute of the period from Colin Lucey. Canisius tied it 2-2 after 2 periods. Tyler Durinka scored at 2:29 to put East up 3-2, Phil Bermel made a pretty pass in front for the lone assist. Canisius tied it with 8:28 left in the game. The team's first playoff game will be Mon. 2/21 at 2:10 PM at Hockey Outlet.

FRONTIER UPSETS TOP SEEDED EAST
Top-seeded East was upset by Frontier last night 3-2. East grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Kyle Smith scored at the 52 second mark from Alex Durinka. The lead went to 2-0 with 54 seconds left in the first period asDurinka scored on the power play. Anthony Clair and Smith drew the assists. It was 2-0 after 2 periods before Frontier scored 3 times in the final period to tkae the lead and the game. East season in Fed League play is over, however the season will continue as East did qualify for the States. They will lplay a team from Sec. VII on Sat. March 5 at 1 PM at the Amherst Pepsi Center.

EAST JV WINS QUARTER FINAL GAME 8-1
Tyler Durinka scored the 3 goal hat trick and Capt. Phil Bermel scored a goal and added 4 assists to lead the JV to a convincing 8-1 win over Williamsville South JV on Monday.Durinka opened the scoring at 10:18 of the first period from Colin Lucey. East then scored twice during a 2 man advantage late in the period. Dan Tyx from Bermel and Ryan Caudill from Gary Styn and Lucey were the powerplay scores. Durinka then netted 2 goals 2 minutes apart early in the second period to complete the hat trick. Tyx's second of the game from Kyle Murray and Bermel at 6:16 gave East a 6-0 lead. Matt Bradley stopped all 8 shots he faced after 2 periods. Phil Bermel banked in a goal from behind the net and Lucey closed the scoring in the third period. Alex Pilat played the third period stopping 7 of 8 shots. Durinka added an assist to his 3 goals and Lucey added 2 assists to his goal. Solid effort from all players in this one! The JV will play Div.1 #1 seed Williamsville North JV on Sat. 2/26 at 3 PM at the Amh Pepsi Center in a semi-final game. The winner goes on to the Championship Game on Sunday 2/27 1 PM at APC.

Season Ends For JV
Williamsville North JV defeated East JV 4-1 on Saturday in a semi final playoff game which was much closer than the final score indicated. The first period was pretty much an even period as each team had 5 shots on goal and each killed team able to kill off a power play. In the second period, Will North struck first at the 2:32 second mark as Andrew Saint scored the first of his 3 goals for the game. Saint scored again to put North up 2-0 at 7:00 mark. Colin Lucey off a pretty passing play scored at 8:01 to put the JV back in the game. Tyler Durinka and Ryan Caudill assisted on the goal. The score was 2-1 after 2 periods. East's goalie Matt Bradley's great goaltending continued to keep the JV in the game. Phil Bermel hit the cross bar early in the third period as East tried to tie the game. However, a penalty to Bermel with 6 minutes left in the period gave North a power play opportunity and then a power play goal to make it 3-1. North scored another with less than 2 minutes to play to ice the game. The JV squad ended the season as the first JV team to advance to the semi final round. The last two games were hard fought and a full team effort.

Disappointment!
Saranac Lake defeated East 6-2 in a state regional quarterfinal playoff game on Saturday. East opened the scoring at 3:15 of the first period as they dominated the opening minutes of the game. Anthony Clair scored from in front of the net assisted by Alex Durinka. Saranac Lake tied the score at 1-1 to end the first period. After falling behind 2-1 early in the second period, Jon Toole scored apowerplay goal fromDurinka to tie the score at 2-2. Saranac Lake took a 3-2 lead into the final period on a late2nd period powerplay goal. After a mis-communication in front of the East goal,Saranac scored at the 15 second mark of the final period to take a 2 goal lead. East was unable to mount a comeback in the game with the final goal going into an empty net at the buzzer. East outshot Saranac 38-31 in the game. It was a disappointing finish to an otherwise great season for the varsity as all but 2 of the players will be returning next year as they attempt to head back to Utica for the state finals.

VARSITY COACH TORRILLO NAMED TO HOF
Varsity Head Coach Mike Torrilllo was honored recently by Sweet Home High School when he was added to their sports hall of fame. Mr.Torrillo was a 4 sport star at Sweet Home,participating in baseball, football,hockey ,and track! Congrats to Coach Torrillo!!

EAST HOCKEY BANQUET & AWARDS
Williamsville East hockey held their annual awards banquet on March 22 at Salvatore's Italian Gardens. Varsity Head Coach Mike Torrillo and JV Head Coach Pat Annese reviewed each team's season and presented several awards. Div.2 2nd Team-Jason Tartick-Forward. Also named to the ALL STATE DIV.2 1st team were: Jarrod Etengoff-Goal and Div.2 2nd team- Alex Durinka-Forward.
Varsity manager Joe Guadagnino was the master of ceremonies and Diane Smith organized the banquet attended by116 players, parents, and coaches. Mr. Guad thanked all parents for their support with all fund raising efforts. The team had a successful Chiavetta chicken bar b que which was chaired by Mary Ross, the East hockey program book was compiled by Mike Lucey and Joe (lite) Guadagnino and printed compliementarily by Brian Charleton. Also the East-logo clothing sale was organized by Pat Annese and Joe Guadagnino. Finally, the Delta Sonic Car Wash fund raiser was a huge success and earned a lucky family a trip to Orlando,FL. The fund raiser enabled the JV to purchase new black jerseys and socks and for the varsity to replenish their treasury. Many players and parents were responsible for this successful event. The trip to Orlando was awarded by Delta Sonic to East hockey for selling over 1000 car wash & oil change coupons. A raffle was held at the end of the banquet and Mark Davis father of JV player Greg Davis was the winner. The trip is for 2 people- 6 days & 5 nights, air fare , and a one day pass to Universal Studios. The third annual Williamsville East Golf Outing is Sunday August 14 at Batavia Country Club.
