What a season!! What a year!  As we send off most of our players to High School in the fall, the Wildcats would like to thank everyone for the enthusiastic support we’ve received.  This is a team that kept raising the bar of excellence every single year. Thank you head coach Dave Hicks and the rest of the staff who worked so hard for the last 11 seasons with this group of kids to not only make them better players, but better individuals.  Thank you to the best parents out there for all your dedication and hard work as well.

We have come a long way from the scrappy bunch of 7 year old kids that played flag football together to one of most premier, feared football teams in the league.  Truly, we stepped up to the challenge of being better than our competition and caused our competition to become better in the process.   Scouting competition, strategic planning, film reviews, and planning our next move was the ultimate in coaching and our players had a tremendous amount of fun playing at this level.

We have had some fantastic rivalries and nothing can compare to the fun we’ve had as a team and we cherish those memories.

As we reflect back on the seasons as well as the recent trip to San Diego Tournament, it is hard not acknowledge a couple of special teams that made football more fun. First the Argonauts, who over the last few seasons have been a great rivalry for us. Congratulations on your success.  We have been there and the #1 spot DOES feel sweet!

A special thanks to the Invaders entire team.  What an incredible bunch of people you all are.  NYS will certainly miss both teams as the Wildcats and Invaders were the “top teams to beat” on the west side this season!  The competition was fierce and the standard was high.  You rose to the challenge and met it with class.  We, the Wildcats will always hold a special place in our hearts for the Invaders.

The San Diego tournament was nothing less than spectacular.  With the much touted Dragonz  getting beat in the fourth round,  it came down to three teams battling for the top spot.  Argos, Invaders and the Wildcats refused to go down easy.  With the Wildcat win over the Invaders in the third round, it put the Invaders on track to have to play 4 games Sunday for the win.  The Wildcats only needed two wins on Sunday.  The tables turned on Sunday with an Invader win over the Wildcats and then, the most incredible thing happened when the Invaders gave up their chance at the Argos for the title.  True to form, the Wildcats stepped up to the challenge as we have so many times.  Early in the game, Wildcats moved the ball very well, and had 2 TD’s called back.  Those TD’s would have changed the momentum of the game, but a Wildcat win was not our fate that day.  The Argos came up with one TD for the win and the #1 trophy.  It was a battle to the final whistle. At the end of the game, the Invaders came out to the field to congratulate the Wildcats on the effort and both teams shared a very special ceremony when the Wildcats presented the 2nd place trophy to the well deserved Invaders for their rightful place as #2.

In this final post from the Wildcat camp, I would like to share some special clips from our past season and acknowledge the staff at NYS for organizing a fun league to play football.

The Wildcat moto is simple.  Strength and Honor says it all.
