WHYBL PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT
I. The responsibility of players.
You are expected to conform to established guidelines of sportsmanlike conduct in athletic competition, both on and off the court. Sportsmanlike conduct includes showing respect toward all that are in attendance at an athletic event: officials, coaches, athletes, opponents, and spectators. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes inappropriate behavior in language, gesture, or action which demeans, physically intimidates, or endangers others, not just during athletic competition but also during all activities associated with your participation.
Your Coach may establish team rules which shall not be inconsistent with this Code or the League bylaws, which you shall be expected to follow.
II. Standards of Conduct
It is a privilege and not a right to play in the WHYBL and every player is expected to conduct himself or herself in a manner that exhibits honor and respect to the team, the WHYBL, opposing players and teams and fans. Violation of any of the standards of conduct may result in discipline
A. Sportsmanship: Sportsmanship requires maintaining self-control, and refusing to be drawn into or to encourage physical conflict not otherwise required by proper execution of the sport. All players are obligated to represent themselves, the team, the WHYBL, their families, and their communities, with the highest level of sportsmanship.
B. Violence: The WHYBL is committed to creating and maintaining a league in which its players, coaches, administrators, fans and friends are free from all forms of harassment, exploitation, intimidation, and violence. Players are prohibited from engaging in violent acts including assault on a person or property, hate crimes, hazing, stalking, sexual violence, or any other conduct prohibited by law.
C. Disrespect: Players are to refrain from disrespectful conduct including profane, abusive, demeaning, harassing, threatening or obscene expression; or deliberate damage to equipment or other property.
D. Conduct Unbecoming a WHYBL player. At all times WHYBL players are expected to conduct themselves responsibly within the league. Behavior that reflects negatively on the player, their team, or the WHYBL may be grounds for disciplinary action including immediate administrative suspension from involvement in team activity pending further investigation.
III. Disciplinary Process and Sanctions. Sanctions will vary depending on the type and circumstances of the violation, but may without limitation include loss of eligibility to participate.
A. Possible sanctions include but are not limited to:
1. Warning. The issuance of a verbal warning.
2. Probation. Special status with conditions imposed for a limited time.
