Spring 2005 Current Season

PWSI Icebreaker Tournament
The White Tigres competed in the 2005 Icebreaker Tournament. Playing 3 hours of soccer and holding the teams scoreless for 2 hours and 45 minutes was a great accomplishment (8-0 in that 2 hours and 45 minutes). But giving up 4 goals in a 4-3 loss to the POT Sting in the last 15 minutes of the game left us out of the championship game in the end.

Overall though the boys played very well and deserved to be in the championship game to play the FASA Hotspurs. FASA did win the championship and we congratulate them in their win over the POT Sting 3-0 in the final.

All of us are looking forward to the team's spring season and playing in Division 3, which will be rewarding and challenging.

Winter 2004/05

George Mason Indoor Tournament
We came into the George Mason University Boys Indoor Soccer Tournament confident after reaching the finals last year but falling short of the championship. After a very good off-season training schedule our coaches were anxious to see improvement in our boys play and they didn’t have to wait long.

Our first game was against the FPYC Tornados who we have played four times previously. We came out very fast and scored 3 quick goals in the first 10 minutes. They switched goalies on us after that and he held us scoreless for the rest of the game. We had our chances but couldn’t slide any more in the net. But our defense was very solid and held the Tornados scoreless as well and we went on to win 3-0.

We went into the second game not knowing our opponent like we did in our first game. McLean Fire came out very aggressive but we scored early again on a good strike from Brandon W. on the left hand side and went up 1-0. The rest of the game was a battle of possession and great saves by both goalies. Our goalie for the whole tournament was Adam and he showed that he really likes it between the pipes indoor. There aren’t too many indoor games that end in a 1-0 result but this one did and we were happy to take it.

As it turned out we needed a win or tie in our last preliminary game to move on to the finals. We ended up playing a team from our outdoor NCSL division, FCSC Lions, who tied us during the fall season. Again we went up early 1-0 and I’m sure the boys were thinking that this would be a win, not an easy win but a win. After the early goal it was extremely tough going as the Lions put up a great battle. Our center d-mid, Christian N., went down with an injury to one of his knees. This left our defenders more exposed down the middle and the Lions jumped on that chance knocking in two goals quickly to go up 2-1. Being down for the first time of the tournament and also giving up our first goals of the tournament was a shock for the boys for a bit of time. The clock was ticking down and our team was desperate for that tying goal. There was about 2 minutes left on the clock when Christian A. took a corner kick from the right. He put it very close to the goal and the goalie went to punch it out but it went off of his fist and into the net. Shocking doesn’t explain the feeling at that time, maybe relief but it was all good no matter what. After that goal our team seemed possessed to get the win our right. That is when Christian A. took a right-footed shot low and hard and beat the diving keeper to put us up for good 3-2 with 30 seconds left. The boys were extremely excited as they reached the finals but they knew they wanted to win and not leave in 2nd place.

The finals matched us against an Ashburn Sting team that we had played in our U10 fall season. They have improved much since that meeting and showed it when they stormed us early and went up 1-0 in the first couple of minutes. After our boys settled the pace down and took over the game in the last 15 minutes. Brandon M. tied it up with a goal around the 10 minute mark. Though we did dominate possession from that goal on Ashburn put on a much pressure through quick counter attacks but couldn’t succeed on scoring a second goal. It looked like we were going into overtime but at around a minute left Brandon W. took a shot from a high bouncing ball that went into the upper ninety. This sealed our fate as champions of the GMU tournament.

From our man in the middle Ryan F.; our defenders in the back Christian N., Josh Y., Bryan D., Jonathan M.; our forwards Brandon M., Brandon W., Christian A.,; our players that played everywhere Sean G., Mitchell S., Trevor D. and our goalie Adam C. all of the parents and coach Ernesto are extremely proud of our boys taking this step and fighting through to win. Now they understand the heart and fight it takes to play and win a tournament. I’m sure the team will continue to make us proud, winning or not, in the future as we watch our boys grow.

Fall 2004

MCSA Fall Classic
A great tournament even with a few rain drops. The White Tigres finished as Finalists in the Royal Division. The boys had to fight through a severe drought of goals only scoring two the whole weekend but our defense served well until late in the second half of the final game. The defense kept us in the games and our offense scored enough to get us in the finals. The competition between the teams in the Royal Division was very comptetive and tight with all but the final game decided by 2 goals or less.

Wachovia Cup
What a great weekend for soccer. We couldn’t ask for better weather or better field conditions. Also the scenery of the soccer fields with the mountain back drops in Roanoke, VA was very beautiful. Our competition turned out to be very good as we expected. We played a team from the Waldorf, MD area; we had the run of play during both our games and won both 3-1 and 6-0. The Waldorf team had very nice parents and a great coach and we wish them all the luck in the coming year, they will be a force to be reckoned with in the future. The other opponent we played was from West Virginia and turned out to be the top rated U-11 team in that state. Our Saturday game against them wasn’t our best game. W. Virginia took it to us and after playing a game just over an hour previously we just didn’t have the stamina to keep up with them being it was their first game. Not to take anything away from their team because they did play well and extremely physical. Our last game on Sunday was against the W. Virginia team and even though we were technically out of the race for 1st place in the tourney (we had already locked up 2nd place) and we were playing them with a game not much over an hour in the past our boys really dug deep and gave them a good run. I’m sure that the W. Virginia team is used to running over most teams using their physical play to intimidate the other team but our boys didn’t back down and held the game extremely close until the last couple of minutes when W. Virginia scored a couple of goals to increase their lead. But it was one of those games that you leave the field saying that we gave it our all and we can’t wait to meet the W. Virginia team again in the future and we wish them luck with their season.

Asst. Coach Ernesto and Corky were most impressed and proud of the boy’s effort in the last game. They didn’t have to go out and play hard, being that they already locked up 2nd place and couldn’t have taken the championship away from W. Virginia. But they went out and showed what character is all about, playing hard and fair against a team that had already put a couple of our players on the sideline injured. After this tournament we are hopeful that the team has become closer and will make a strong run in the 2nd part of our NCSL season. GO TIGRES!!!!!!!!!!!

The Fredericksburg Challenge Cup
The boys did great over the weekend, going 2-2-0 and getting 2nd place in the Fredericksburg Tourney. We started out strong on Saturday with a 10-0 win over the Richmond Kickers, very good ball movement and nice shots were the story of this game. In the second game on Saturday we faced the CASL Hotspurs. This game was extremely close. We dominated most of the game with possession but couldn't convert the chances we had and lost 2-3. The first game on Sunday was against the same CASL Hotspurs team. CASL only needed a tie to win the tournament and played for that tie holding 9 players back most of the game. The White Tigres had great possession with most of the game in the CASL end but with so many of their players in front of the net our shots didn't go in again and we found many times shut down from taking shots. We put alot of pressure on their team as the CASL Head Coach said later but in the end we couldn't put anything in the net and lost 0-2 with CASL scoring twice on break aways, one with only a few seconds left.

Overall it was a great tournament to start of the Fall 2004 season. We would like to thank Micah and Aaron of the Gold Tigres for guest playing with us since we were shorthanded. The White Tigres are looking forward to an exciting Fall season.

McSoccerfest Results
Congrats to the White and Silver Tigres on their finalist finish at the 2004 McSoccerfest. It was a great day in the sun and I want to thank all the parents who brought out their players. On another team note not really dealing with the U10 Tigre team...I would like to congratulate the U6 Tigres on winning their division at the 2004 McSoccerfest. In only their second tourney together they put on a great performance and won the championship game 4-2.

Spring 2004

The Virginian 2004
The White Tigres finished as Finalists in the Silver Division (second highest division) of the U-10 age group. The tournament provided great competition and showed how far our boys have come in a short year together.

During the preliminary round they had two tough ties on Saturday. The pressure was on on Sunday as they had to beat the Sterling Strike-force. After going down 0-2 our boys fought back against a very tough Strike-force team and won 3-2 to gain a birth in the semi-finals. White Tigres met a team they have played before in the Gunston Gunners. As usual both teams fought hard for most of the game until the Gunners put themselves up 0-1. With a goal in the middle of the 2nd half the White Tigres tied it up and then went ahead with time very close to the end of the game with a nice individual goal. The final was on Monday and provided another great test in the Calverton Flames. The first half was scoreless but very early in the second half the Flames scored on a break away. The White Tigres had their chances but the tying goal came late in the 2nd half with a nice cross and a one touch tap in goal. Going into overtime our boys had the momentum and most of the run of the game but couldn't convert that into a winning goal. The game went to PK's where Calverton won with a great performance by their keeper.

PWSI Icebreaker Tournament
PWSI has released the schedules for their Icebreaker Tourney (schedule is posted on this website).

The competition we will meet for this tourney is as follows:

Centure United PA
Herndon Extreme
Reston Rowdies Gold

We are in the top division (Red) and this should be a great test for our boys.

White Tigres finish 2nd at GMU Tourney
The White Tigres sneaked into the semi-finals and finally played Tigre ball and beat the FPYC Tornados 1-0 after losing to the Tornados 1-0 just a few minutes before. The final was against the United Jrs. and the White Tigres played better against them than they had in their second game but still came up short 5-2. Overall a good tourney with the best play coming in the last two games.

MCSA Fall Classic
The White Tigres finished with 1-2 record losing in the semi-finals to bow out of the MCSA Fall Classic. The team didn't play up to their standard during this tournament but their will be many more tournaments in the future.

Battlefield Classic Fall 2003
The White Tigres finished in second place in the Battlefield Classic of 2003. The team played very well on Saturday earning 3-1 victories over the VISTA Phoenix and VYS Vipers. They beat the visiting team from New Jersey by a score of 6-0 Sunday morning to earn a sport in the finals.

The finals was a tough game with the Tigres coming out a little slow and falling down 2-0 to the VISTA Vipers. Second half had the Tigres scoring fast and tying the game 2-2. But the Vipers came back and went up 4-2, that didn't stop the Tigres though and with a made penalty kick the Tigres were within 4-3. Time ran out though on the Tigres on that day but showed how far the team had come in just a few months of being together.
