1998 also saw the inception of the ill-fated FUGLYBUPID Summer Ball. Milton Keynes was the somewhat inauspicious venue for what was hoped to be the inaugural event, and, despite the concrete cows, the various black tied/evening frocked Whales and partners who attended the bash which was as star-studded as a Postehouse would allow had a cracking time. Notable events included Colin & Moz downing a bottle of Amaretto, Sam misunderstanding the invitation to a Black Tie do and arriving in footie kit and black sock ties, and drunk Whales realising how marvellous a glass lift in the atrium really could be.

Unfortunately, an event that offered such promise failed to become an annual event, despite regular promises/threats to the contrary, and we are still awaiting the Ball's return (very much like our Offense).

FUGLYBUPID:
Blubber Ed: Sam Horowitz
OBW Organiser: Cathy Jackson

Cathy once again (wo)manly managed the annual debauch that is OBW, and even managed to introduce the now-infamous costume theme. Not content with mere 'success', the resultant '70s theme exceeded the expectations of the now blase Whales (who had come to expect excellence). Notable mentions go to Steve 'Hipster' Chad, Morris 'Fever' Newton and Colin 'Multi Costume' Hancock.

OBW Organisers: Charlie King & Julie Tonks

This year's OBW continued the new tradition, and ran on the theme of 'A Night At the Oscars'. Everyone's enthusiasm for dressing up was clear for everyone to see - the Star Wars Group (Casper, Colin, Al, Woody, Sam) were a mere tip of the iceberg.

OBW 00 produced another win for the Whales, and the crowing that ensued was both expected and arrogant. However, nobody was to realise that this was the end of an era...
