THE SPIRIT OF THE GAME IS FUN, FRIENDSHIP AND FAIR PLAY!!!
Ringette Codes of Behavior
Adapted from Fair Play Codes for Children in Sport (Ottawa: Council on Children and Youth, 1979)

THE PLAYER'S CODE

 Ringette is a team sport. Work for the good of the team.
 Respect the rules of the game. Obey them and play fairly at all times.
 Respect your coach and other team staff.
 Recognize and respect the needs and skills of your teammates and opponents.
 Consider the hard job that the officials have, and treat them with respect.
 Be a good sport.
 Use the game and the opportunities that it offers for your personal growth with a team setting.
 Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents.

THE PARENT'S CODE

A child learns to be a good sport at home. By the time a child dons her skates, or joins a team, a sense of sportsmanship (or lack thereof ) is already established.

Parents must:

 Avoid forcing an unwilling child to participate in sports
 Remember that children are involved in organized sports for their enjoyment
 Encourage their child to play by the rules
 Teach their child that an honest effort is as important as victory
 Turn defeat into victory by helping their child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship
 Remember that children learn best by example: Applaud good play by both teams
 Do not publicly question the official’s judgment or honesty
 Recognize the value and importance of volunteers

THE SPECTATOR'S CODE

Fans don’t play fair when they mistake children at play for professional entertainers.

Spectators must:

 Remember that players ar in organized sports for fun
 Be on their best behavior
 Applaud the ability and achievements of every participant
 Show respect for their team’s opponents
 Never ridicule or scold a player for making a mistake during a competition
 Condemn any use of violence
 Respect the official’s decisions
 Encourage players to always play according to the rules
