WFFSC Announces College ScholarShip Program

WFFSC is pleased to announce its first annual College Scholarship Program. Two $500 scholarships are available to high school graduates (class of 2009) who plan to attend an institution of higher education and are either current or former soccer players with WFFSC.

Application deadline is August 1, 2009.

Go to Scholarship Progam menu item for more information plus the application.

Fall Recreational Soccer Registration

Registration for fall recreational soccer is now available. Go to Fall Player Registration button in menu on left and follow the instructions.

The last day to register to be guaranteed a spot on a team is July 31. Teams are formed at that time with uniforms ordered. Once teams fill up, then players go on a waiting list.

Fall Rec will have U6 co-ed, U8, U10, U12, and U15 with gender-specific divisions. U19 players may register as well and depending on the number, we will see what we can do with this age division. This is a first for the club for this age division for Rec, but we want to offer soccer to kids at all ages if we can.

Season runs through September and October.

All players will receive a quality jersey and socks and U10 and under will also get a trophy.

Walk-in registration will be held at Warwick Public Library on Sandy Lane Road at 7:00 PM on July 28th.

USYSL RI State Champions

WFFSC is proud to have two teams that won the RI State Cup Championships in the US Youth Soccer League National Tournament. The U18 Girls coached by Mario Santos and the U12 Boys coached by Walter Pastor will now represent RI in the Region I Championships held in West Virgina over the July 4th weekend. WFFSC wishes these teams the best of luck in their success.

RI SuperLiga Champions

Congratulations to the WFFSC U16 Girls team coached by Jim Sullivan for winning the RI SuperLiga State Championship. This team has had a dominating season winning many tournaments, such as the Amherst Memorial Day Tournament, as well as this state championship. Well done.

Tremendous Success at Memorial Day Tournaments

Nine teams played in tournaments over the Memorial Day weekend. Mario Santos' U14 Girls went to Long Island for a top-level tournament where they did well. Eric LaPrade's U12 Girls played in the Joe Strauss tournament in Coventry and posted a 1-1-1 record. Lee Merrill's U8 girls played at a premier tournmant in the U9 division and they did well.

Six teams travelled to Amherst, NH where more than 50 families stayed at the Radisson in Manchester. While the soccer was fun, the socializing was just as much fun.

The U10 girls coached by David Dorsen won all 4 of their games. The U14 boys (actually mixture of U12 boys and girls) coached by David Kawatu finished 1-1-1, just out of the playoffs.

The U12 boys coached by Walter Pastor won the championship in the top division with both the semis and finals being decided with PKs. (see picture in WFFSC News)

The U12 girls coached by Paul Wolstenholme won the championship in the top division with dominating wins in most of the games. (see picture in WFFSC News)

The U16 girls coached by Jim Sullivan won the championship in the top division (U19) with a 2-1 victory in the Finals. (see picture in WFFSC News)

The U19 girls coached by Mark Ruggieri made it to the semis in the top division.

The U14 Boys coached by David Kawatu finished with a 1-1-1 record and just missed the playoffs.

It was a great weekend of soccer.

WFFSC Players in Super Liga Soccer Skills Finals

The Super Liga holds contests for players to highlight their soccer skills. Four players from WFFSC have made it to the finals. Congratulations to Karla Wolstenholme, Ally Merrill, Benjamin Hunt, Ethan Thayer, and Brandon Iannelli and good luck in the Finals on June 14.

State Cup Championship Tournament

The RI state championships are taking place to see which team is the best in the state and will represent RI at the USYSL National Championships this summer. WFFSC is proud to once again send multiple teams to the tournament, where one of our teams has won a state championship each of the last two years. This is an amazing accomplishment for a town club when faced with the competition from the premier clubs.

This year WFFSC has 5 teams entered in the State Cup Tournament. We wish them the best of luck as they chase the state championship. The teams are:

U12 Boys - Coach Walter Pastor (won first game against South County, won second against CLCF, won 4-1 against South County in Finals for the State Championship)

U12 Girls - Coach Paul Wolstenholme (won first game against Bruno team, won second game against South County, lost a heartbreaker 1-0 against Rays in the Finals for the State Championship)

U14 Girls - Coach Mario Santos (lost against Bruno, the eventual state champions, and won against Pawtucket)

U16 Girls - Coach Jim Sullivan (tied Scituate and lost to Bruno)

U19 Girls - Coach Mario Santos (won State Championship with 3-1 win over Tidal Wave)
