Weather Update Stay tuned. Fall Recreation Registration Tis that time to start thinking about fall soccer. To register for Fall Rec go to Fall Recreation Registration in the menu to the left side of the page. Coaches should register using the Coach Registration menu item. Speed, Agility, and Strength Training - Summer 2012 There will be 8 sessions of specialized training offered this summer. See WFFSC News for more info. Spaghetti Dinner For Susan Groh WFFSC will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on May 19 4-7 PM. Info is at website given below. The bone marrow registry drive was a huge success in that over 150 people registered to be a bone marrow donors. Thanks to everyone who registered. It is truly appreciated. Also thanks to Steph Meunier for organizing the event. Susan Groh, wife of Jack Groh WFFSC's long-serving Director of Coaches, is battling leukemia. To honor Susan, WFFSC hosted a bone marrow registry drive at Winslow on April 21. Click on the following for a website dedicated to Susan and to find more information. SuperLiga Skills Challenge The SuperLiga puts on a Skills Challenge for all players. For information, see The SuperLiga website. RI State Championship Tournament WFFSC is proud to have three teams entered into the RI State Championship Tournament that determines the teams that represent RI at the US Youth Soccer National Championship Tournament. WFFSC has a history as one of the few town clubs to win several state championships. WFFSC wishes these teams the best of luck in their endeavors. The three teams entering this year are: U14 Girls - Coach Bob Enright U17 Boys - Coach Mike Silvestri U17 Girls - Coach Mario Santos Congratulations to both WFFSC U17 teams for making it through the preliminary rounds with solid wins over some premier clubs to reach the semi-finals of the RI State Championships. Both teams play their semi-final game this Saturday, May 19 at noon at Deerfield Park in Smithfield. 2011 FALL SUPERLIGA SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD U14 Girls Anchor team wins 2011 Superliga award. Coaches Appreciation Game WFFSC will host a coaches appreciation game on Sunday, June 3 at 4:00 PM at Winslow. All WFFSC coaches, both Rec and Competitive, are invited to attend. The day will start with a clinic from Greg Murphy on basics of speed, agility, and strength followed by a friendly game followed by food and refreshments and aspirin. Summer Camps WFFSC promotes summer camps for soccer players. Following camps are available this summer: Kent County Soccer School, July 9-13, Bishop Hendricken High School, Brochure with info/application available under Handouts. Brian Young Soccer Camp, July 23-27, Winslow, Brochure with info/application available under Handouts. Speed, Agility, and Strength Training WFFSC is pleased to offer specialized training this spring with Greg Murphy who has been running programs at WFFSC for last couple of years. Kids really seem to enjoy this training that is focused on making the kids better all-round athletes. See info under WFFSC News. WFFSC Needs Sponsors! In order to keep fees down, the club relies on sponsors to help reduce the costs for each team. See the item in the menu on the left for additional information on sponsorship packages. We had a very lively debate at the field recently between coaches, players, referees and board members about the infamous Offside Rule. Click the link here to see an animated explanation of the rule. 2011 College Scholarships Announced WFFSC is extremely proud to be able to once again offer two $500 scholarships to graduating high school students seeking a higher education. Being able to do this is a testament to the success of this club and I hope each and every member is thrilled that we are able to do this. Congratulations to 2011 winners Jessica Sandin and Meghan Carter. Spring Rec Opening Day went very well, great weather and lots of soccer plus it was great seeing lots of friends. Schedules are now available under Handouts. Season goes until June 16 so lots of practices and games. Spring Outdoor Registration Registrations are closed. |
