West Warwick Soccer Association: FALL 2013 FAQ's REFERENCE SHEET
FALL 2013 FAQ's REFERENCE SHEET
WHAT IS RECREATIONAL SOCCER? It is a fun soccer program for boys and girls to play outdoor soccer on a grass surface. They also will be taught basic skills and the value of teamwork play. It is for boys and girls ages 4 to 15. Teams are grouped by ages. The divisions are Under 6 co-ed (NEW Dinomite Program by Xara), Under 8 co-ed, Under 10 boys & girls, Under 12 boys & girls and Under 14 /16 boys & girls (some years co-ed). The group the players fall into is based on the player’s age as of August 1, 2013. Special requests possibly may not be honored in order to balance the teams in skills and numbers. Special requests for divisions U-12 thru U-14/16 are not accepted.
WHERE ARE THE GAMES PLAYED? The games are held at Riverpoint Park on Saturday each week. If the games are cancelled on Saturday because of the weather, the games will be played on Sunday at the same scheduled time. Games will be played in mildly inclement weather. Games are cancelled when player safety is in question. There will be a weekly, weekday practice scheduled by the coach for ages U 8 co-ed and above. The Under 6 (instructional) division, The Dinomites, is a new youth soccer program.
WHAT ABOUT EQUIPMENT? The Registration fee includes a uniform jersey (tee-shirt) and soccer socks. Players need to supply soccer shorts (preferably black), shin pads (a must to be able to play or practice soccer) and soccer cleats. Baseball cleats are not acceptable for soccer play. Soccer cleats are needed because we will play in mild rain and players can slip in sneakers. We do not play the Under 6 games in inclement weather so sneakers are acceptable for that division. It is required that all players, except U6, bring their own soccer ball for practices. Soccer ball sizes are #3 for U8, #4 for U10 and U12, and #5 for U14 and U16. A water bottle should also be brought to practices and games. No jewelry (earrings, bracelets, etc.) can be worn during the practices and games for safety reasons.
HOW CAN I HELP? West Warwick is an All-Volunteer League. We are always looking for anyone interested in becoming a Head Coach or an Assistant Coach or any other assistance you can offer to the league. If you are interested or wish to hear more about it, contact Kim Johnson on the website. A training session for coaches will be set up prior to the fall season. Also, please register online early so the league can set up the appropriate number of teams for the fall season.
If you haven’t heard from a coach by mid August, contact the Commissioner of the age group your child will play in. The division is based on your child’s age on August 1, 2013. Example: if your child is 8 yrs old on Aug 1, 2013, he or she will play in the under 10 division.
