Club Participates In Local Lake Clean-Up Project
On the morning of September 27th, 10 members of the West Suburban Bass Anglers participated in a lake clean-up project at Woodcreek Park, in Crystal Lake, IL.
From 8:00 am until 12:00 pm, members picked up garbage around the lake and surrounding park, filling a dozen garbage bags that were collected and taken away by the park district.
As a member of the Illinois Bass Federation Nation, devoting time to conservation and kids is important to us. We want to thank Woodcreek Park for having us out and look forward to returning someday.

Anglers of the Year & State Qualifier Team Set
The September 21st tournament on the Madison Chain not only ended the WSBA regular season, but it decided both Angler of the Year titles as well as the club's State Qualifier Team for 2009.
The race for the "Boater" Angler of the Year came down to the last tournament, as Orlando caught a limit of fish to outlast Mike R. and take home his 2nd Angler of the Year title in the 7 years he has been with the club ('04 & '08).
John had an easier time of things as he ran away with this year's "Non-Boater" Angler of the Year title. This was John's 1st title in only his 2nd year with the club.
The WSBA sends a team to the IBFN State Qualifier tournament every spring based on the Angler of the Year points race. The top 3 Boaters and Non-Boaters make up the team that will fish against other IBFN clubs for individual and team honors in the spring of 2009. This year's WSBA team consists of:
BOATERS: Orlando, Mike R. and Jeff
NON-BOATERS: John, Greg and Bill

There were 20 club members in attendance.
Conservation Project: Tony has set up the club's conservation project for this year. We will be cleaning up Woods Creek Lake, in Crystal Lake, IL. The date is Saturday, September 27th (8:00-12:00). The rain date will be Sunday, September 28th.
Winter Meetings: Remember that the October, November and December meetings are where we discuss new rules, elect new officers and welcome new members, so make sure you attend. The meetings are also worth 5 points each towards next year's AOY race.
Classic Change: The Classic lake has changed and we will be fishing the Wolf River Chain (WI), launching on Lake Winneconne. The tournament is still October 4th and 5th. John will research local hotels and get the word out to everyone asap.
Classic Quaifiers: Remember that you must fish 5 regular season tournaments to qualify for the Classic.
Madison Chain Tournament: The last regular season tournament is on the Madison Chain (WI) on Sunday, September 21st. We will start at 7:00 am.
Tournament Fees: Remember, if you commit to fishing a tournament, you owe the tournament fee whether you show up of not.
6-Man Team: We began discussions on fielding a second 6-man team to represent the club at the IBFN State Qualifier in 2009. We will continue that discussion and decide what we will do over the winter.

August 2008 WSBA Meeting Minutes
There were 18 members in attendance.
Remember that you need to fish in 5 club events to qualify for this year's "Classic" on Mill Creek Lake in October. So far, with 3 regular season events left, Guy, Jeff, Pete, Dave, Mike R., Orlando, Mark, Dean, Tony and Scott S. have qualified on the boater side and Bill, John, Roger, Glenn and Greg have qualified on the non-boater side.
A reminder that non-boaters are to pay gas money to the boater they are drawn with, no matter how they get to a tournament.
Boaters that haven't given a copy of their boat insurance papers to Mike R. are asked to do so asap.
Pre-tournament meetings will be held 15 minutes before the start of each tournament. Because of the confusion during the Madison Chain event, please be attentive and ask questions before you leave the ramp.
Retrieval of a lure that is stuck on a dock is not considered leaving the boat to gain an advantage, under our club rules, and will be allowed. The safety of the dock owners and the perception of our club doing the right thing in that circumstance is what is important.
Tony will be coming up with some final ideas for conservation projects very soon.

June 2008 WSBA Club Minutes
There were 21 members in attendance. We would like to welcome Brian and Spiro to the club.
We recognized Mike R. and John for making the Illinois State team at the IBFN State Qualifier tournament.
Make sure to take a look at the article in the June BASS Times titled "BFN Insurance Continues To Be Misunderstood" for a working knowledge of the BFN insurance program. Also, all of the boaters need to make sure to show Mike R. a copy of their liability insurance. It's a BFN requirement for tournament participation.
Tony will go ahead and coordinate the conservation project with the Crystal Lake Park District. You are asked to email him with dates that you are available to help with the project. Remember, it's a requirement to participate in a conservation project in order for the club to be eligible for next year's 6-man State Qualifier. Please help if you can.
A reminder to bring in all Make-A-Wish raffle money and tickets asap.
Mike R. will attempt to identify off-limits areas on the lakes we will be fishing well before the tournament takes place. This should help you when pre-fishing for the tournaments.
It was decided that a non-boater can change boats during a tournament if his original boater can't, or chooses not to fish, once a tournament has started.

There were 20 members in attendance. Welcome to our newest members - Mark, Pete, Dean, Brian, Roger, Jeff, Dave and Steve.
We would like to have our conservation project(s) in place by the June meeting. Tony will contact the Crystal Lake Park District about cleaning up a local park district lake. Other projects will be considered, so get some ideas to Tony by June.
A reminder to turn in the raffle ticket money asap. If you need more tickets, get in touch with Mike G. We need to sell 400 tickets by August.
John talked about ordering more club jerseys. The jerseys will cost $115 each with an additional $10/extra logo. He would like to order them all at once, so anyone interested, get in touch with John.
Craig talked about having a club flea-market at the June meeting. Everyone is encouraged to bring rods, reels and tackle that they don't use anymore for sale or trade.
There will be a brand new "Big Bass Pot" that will cost $20 to enter. The winner will be the club member who catches the biggest bass for the rest of the year begining with the Lake Geneva tournament on June 8th and ending with the Classic at Mill Creek in October. Entry is not mandatory and it's winner-take-all.
Remember, when weighing-in at club tournaments, use only bags provided by the club in order to minimize stress on the fish. There will also be a weigh-in order, provided at the lake. Both members from the same boat are encouraged to weigh-in at the same time.
Boaters are reminded to provide insurance and registration information to Mike R. asap.

John updated us on the new tournament shirts. We have 7 sponsors on board and the shirts should be ready at the begining of May, right before the IBFN 6-Man tournament.
John also showed us the new "official" bump-board and weigh-in bags from Gator Grip.
Tony updated us on the conservation project for this year. According to the local DNR, we need to present a project to them and they will approve the project. Remember, not only is it a good thing to do, but we need to do a conservation project or "Casting Kids" event to qualify for next year's 6-Man tournament. Email Tony with any project ideas.
Mike R. has begun to register for tournament permits.
Remember, if you need any more "Make-A-Wish" raffle tickets, see Mike G. We need to sell 400 tickets by September.
Mike R. submitted a list of possible "Classic" lakes and after a brief discussion, Mill Creek Lake, near Charleston, IL, was picked for the October tournament on October 4th and 5th.

February 2008 WSBA Club Minutes
There were 10 members in attendance. Thanks to Chris, Glen and Glenn for checking us out.
Tony gave us a recap of the IBFN President's meeting. Part of that recap included the fact that if any IBFN club wants to fish the 6-Man State Qualifier tournament, they will have to participate in a conservation project or hold a "Casting Kids" event. With that in mind, Tony will contact the State of Illinois conservation rep for ideas. Any WSBA member that wants to qualify for the 6-Man tournament must participate in the project. The other big news concerning the State Qualifier tournament is that team members from the same club will now fish together.
The IBFN Make-A-Wish raffle is now in full swing. This year's raffle tickets are $2 each and the prizes include - 1st Place, $5,000 Bass Pro gift certificate and 2nd Place, $2,500 Bass Pro gift certificate. If you need some tickets to sell, or if you just want to purchase some for yourself, see Mike G.
The Club Open Series tournament schedule was handed out and club members were encouraged to participate.
The Illinois Valley Bassmasters are holding their open buddy tournament on Braidwood Lake again this year. The tournament is on April 6th and registration forms were handed out to all members.
Assistant Tournament Director, John talked about a new water weigh-in system that he and Mike R. will be trying to perfect before the tournament season begins. It's designed to limit fish mortality and speed up the weigh-in process.
John also talked about getting WSBA tournament jerseys through Phoenix sports wear. The jerseys will have the WSBA logo, as well as club sponsors on them. See John for more info.

WSBA February Club Meeting Changed

January 2008 WSBA Club Minutes
Sorry for the delay in reporting the January minutes. The site was having problems, but all is well now.
There were 11 members in attendance.
Mike R. went over a tentative tournament schedule for the 2008 season. He will fine-tune the schedule with John and we will discuss and vote on it at the February meeting.
Membership Drive: We currently have 8 boaters and 6 non-boaters registered with the club. If you know or meet someone that's interested in joining a club, invite them to the February meeting. We are looking for up to 15 boaters and non-boaters, so there is still plenty of room.
We discussed and voted on the proposed rule changes and additions for 2008. Here are the results:
Club dues have been raised from $35 to $40/year.
Tournament fees will remain at $25/tournament, but we will raise the "Classic" fees to ensure a bigger payout.
Wearing life-vests for any club tournament, while the big motor is running, will begin as soon as you drop the boat into the water.
We will continue to have a rotation format for pairing boaters and non-boaters so everyone has a chance to fish with as many club members as possible.
As soon as we begin a tournament, it becomes an official event. If we have to end early for any reason, including weather, or any other unforseen problem, fish will be weighed and points will awarded at that time.
If you have a friend or a guest that is thinking about joining the club and wants to fish 1 club tournament, we must have that person's name and payment at the meeting prior to the tournament. The friend or guest will be able to fish with the member that brought them.
Non-boaters will now be allowed to fish from the front of the boat if and only if the boater has caught his limit of fish. In that case, non-boaters running the trolling motor will be up to the boater.
There will be an open buddy tournament on Braidwood on April 6th. For more information, contact Mike G.
Friday, December 14
December 2007 WSBA Club Minutes
There were 11 members in attendance.
A very short meeting, followed by some great food and the handing out of awards highlighted this month's meeting.
The 2008 board will have 1 new member as Mike R. will take over the tournament director duties for next year. He is looking for at least 1 volunteer to help with the schedule and to help with tournament weigh-ins. Anybody that's interested, let Mike R. know.
We want to thank Paul for his job as tournament director in 2007. It's a thankless job and he did it well.
The "2008 Proposed Rule Changes" were handed out. Everyone was asked to go over the proposed changes so we can talk about and vote on them at the January meeting. For those that were not at the meeting, a sheet will be mailed to you shortly.
Congratulations to all of the award winners:

Non-Boater Tournament Winners - Mike G., Greg, John & Scott

Anglers of the Year & State Qualifier Team Set
The September 22nd tournament on Little Muskego Lake not only ended the WSBA regular season, but it decided both Angler of the Year titles as well as set the club's State Qualifier team for 2008.
Mike R. didn't even need to fish in the last tournament as he easily won the "Boater" Angler of the Year title. It was Mike's 3rd AOY title in the 6 years he has been a member of the club ('02, '05, '07).
Mike G. had a tougher time of it as it came down to the last weigh-in before edging out John in a very close battle for the "Non-Boater" title. Mike's 2nd consecutive AOY title came in his 5th year with the club.
The WSBA sends a team to the IBFN State Qualifier tournament every spring based on the AOY points race. The top 3 Boaters and Non-Boaters make up the team that will fish againt other IBFN clubs for individual and team honors on May 3-4, 2008. This year's WSBA team consists of:
BOATERS: Mike R., Paul and Kenton
NON-BOATERS: Mike G., John and Scott

15 members and 2 guests were in attendance. Thanks to Mike M. and Jayson for checking us out.
There has been a change in the IBFN "Make A Wish" raffle drawing date. The drawing has been changed from September 9th to September 23rd.
Remember to keep track of how many tournaments you participate in so you can qualify for the club "Classic" at the end of the year. You need to fish in 5 tournaments to be eligible. You are allowed to buy up to 2 tournaments at $100 each if you don't make your 5.
After some discussion, it was decided to let each boater and non-boater decide what is a fair amount to pay the boater for gas and travel expenses. It is expected that the boaters will be fair in their assessment and that the non-boaters will understand what it costs the boaters to participate in each tournament. As always, the non-boater will pay the boat launch fee.

Mike Rubino Makes Illinois State 12-Man Championship Team
WSBA member, Mike Rubino, had a great Illinois Bass Federation Nation 6-Man Qualifier tournament and finished 6th out of 114 anglers to win a spot on the state team that will be representing Illinois at the BFN Divisional tournament in 2008. Mike is the very first club member to make the 12-man state team.
Conditions were extremely tough, but Mike qualified by catching 8.97 pounds of bass over the 2-day tournament, held at Mill Creek Lake in Marshall, Illinois.
The WSBA 6-man team also had a good tournament, weighing in 18.53 pounds of bass on their way to finishing 8th out of 19 clubs for their best team finish ever.
All of the members of the WSBA want to congratulate Mike on his accomplishment and wish him well as he moves on to represent the entire state of Illinois at the Northern Divisional tournament.

The new "Equalizer" scale has been delivered and will be available for the first club tournament on Mill Creek Lake later this month.

Last call for the $25 Big Bass pot, which goes to the angler that catches the first 5 lb. bass in a club tournament this year. Currently, we have $350 in the pot.
If you own your own business and you would like to add it to the "link" section of our web site, send Mike G. an email with the web address and a description of your business. Also, if you have any sponsors you wish to add to the "link" section, feel free to do the same.
Every attempt will be made to make sure that a non-boater doesn't get "bumped" from more than 1 tournament in a given year.
Greg handed out the updated member roster. If you notice any errors, or ever have any updated information, please contact Greg so he can make the appropriate changes.
Everyone was reminded to have a current Illinois fishing license.
Karl spoke to us about Helly Hansen outdoor wear. Anybody interested in purchasing anything, contact Karl for a great deal.
If you have any Make-A-Wish raffle money, send the full amount to Steve (make any checks out to WSBA).
