Last Updated on Sunday the 11th day of May 2008 @ 12:21pm
- ALL GIRLS TEAMS... Please call 905-563-3414 the Tournament Headquarters at Lions Park if you require any information, guidence or assistance during the tournament. Do not call me, as I will not be available. You may still email me before, during, or after the tournament.
- The boys tournament round is now cmplete with all of the scores from the tournament now posted in the Handouts on the existing schedules there in (U11 NAD final score shall be posted Sunday night after the game is played - scheduled for SL2 at 6pm). The scores for the girls tournament round shall be posted by Tuesday May 13th.
*** PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFO PROVIDED ON THIS PAGE. PLEASE PAY SPECIFIC ATTENTION TO ITEM 1 IF YOU INTEND TO ENTER, AND ITEMS 2, 3, AND 4 IF YOU HAVE RESERVED ONE OF THE AVAILABLE SPOTS FOR THE TOURNAMENT. ***
1.The 2008 West Niagara boys tournament round is on May 3rd and 4th, and the girls tournament round is on May 10th and 11th. All entry fees are $325 per team, with exception for mini-soccer which is $275 per team. Application Forms for the 2008 West Niagara Invitational are available to be downloaded from the Handouts page herein. We will continue accepting entries and reservation requests as per info herein until a division is full and therefore closed. To reserve a spot in our 2008 tournament, please download and complete the Page 1 of the application then email it to me. I will reserve a spot for your team upon receipt of the completed Page 1 of the application, provided that you send me the balance of the application and the entry fee so I receive it before March 22nd, provided that there is still room available in the desired division. Most divisions may be full by mid March, so be sure to apply early. (If you are sending me the OSA version of the application, please add the noted page 1 of my application as I need the info provided on that page to be able to place the teams in proper division).
2.As per MY SITE NEWS herein, after a spot has been reserved, ($) posted beside your team's name means that your team's entry fee with page 1 of the application has not been received as agreed. All the teams that have reserved a spot are expected to mail me these two items so that I have them in my hands by no later than March 22nd. There will be no phone calls about why I do not have these. Email me if you have a question, but please do not call me if you are one of these teams. Just simply check My Site News herein, and if you do not see the ($) behind your team's name after March 22nd, that will mean that you have delivered as promised. For any new teams that are interested in one of the vacant spots that may still be available after the noted date of March 22, I will allow 7 to 10 days from your reservation date to have the above two items delivered to me.
3.Please make sure that, if you have reserved a spot, I expect you to send me your entry fee and page 1 of the application by the above noted dates. Therefore, I need the electronic information and the requested items in this order: 1.You may reserve a spot by just simply emailing me the Page 1 of the application, 2.You then need to MAIL me that Same Page 1 with your entry fee by the agreed upon date as noted in the above paragraph, 3.You must EMAIL me your Program Roster page (last page of the application - Page 3) before April 20th at the latest (no faxes or copies, MICROSOFT WORD electronic email file only please), 4.Team Roster (Page 2 of the application), as well as the approved Travel Permit for participating teams that are not from Niagara Region - these two items as well as your properly registered books must be delivered to team registration when you are registering your team at the tournament headquarters (Lions Park in Lincoln). The registration will take place between 6:30pm and 8:30pm on a Friday evening, the day BEFORE YOUR TOURNAMENT, or on a Saturday morning AT LEAST an hour before your first scheduled game.
4.If you send me a post dated cheque after you have made a reservation, and the said cheque is payable past the agreed upon date, then the next team(s) in line shall move up on the reservation list. We do accept post dated cheques, and provided that the division is not full on the date your cheque becomes cashable, there will be no problems. If it is full, then your team will be considered same as any other late application.
5.This tournament is invitational on a first come first served basis. It's true, we do allow up to 25% of the teams from a lower level to try their luck against top teams, if they feel up to it. However, once a spot has been reserved it is never taken away from the team. Sometimes teams reserve a spot and then are not able to fulfill their obligation on time. This is where the first team on hold has the opportunity to take the available spot.
6.The team from a higher level (as per info below that explains the difference between the two divisions) does not qualify for the Ontario Division as it is RESERVED for the lower level teams.
7.I will place a late registering team on hold, and I only will allow a maximum of 2 teams on Hold after a division is full. You do not need to send me a cheque, if your team is on HOLD, until I let you know that you have become one of the accepted teams, or after you look into MY SITE NEWS herein and see that your team is one of the 'accepted' teams.
8.Posting of "Accepted Teams" for 2008 tournament shall continue until a division is full. Go to MY SITE NEWS herein to view the list of teams that were accepted in any of the last 5 years. Please read the info on this page, and on this website, to familiarize your self with this tournament. Good luck to all in 2008 outdoor season!!!
9.The "MY SITE NEWS" shall be updated at least twice a week after the end of January. If you are entering a team in our tournament, go there during the noted period to see the latest list of accepted teams for the upcoming 2008 tournament. I will continue loging the 2008 entries on the MY SITE NEWS page until a particular division is full. Full divisions will be noted as CLOSED and only two spare teams shall be added thereafter. Most boys divisions are anticipated to be full before the end of March, and most girls divisions are anticipated to be full before April 7th.
10.Any competitive team can enter the North American Division. However, only the teams below the top three League Levels - League Levels 4,5 and 6 (as per new OSA Pyranid For Play) are the ones eligable to enter the Ontario Division, as it is reserved for the lower level/division teams that are looking to compete in a similar level to their own (eg. the OYSL and Super Y League are Level 1 Leagues, the second tear OYSL covering each half of the province are Level 2 Leagues, and the top regional divisions are considered Level 3 leagues in the Golden Horseshoe for U12, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 boys and girls. Level 3 and Level 4 Premier and Elite and Premier are considered the top two divisions for U12 and U13 in the CSL/CGSL and SRSL respectively (for the U11, U12 and U13 we may consider the top 16 teams per league as being at the higher North American Division level, if those leagues do not run at least four divisions. In other words, if the league only runs 3 divisions of 10, then only 16 of those 30 teams must play at the higher level. This situation is no longer a problem once we get to U14 and older). For the U14 and older divisions it is Level 1,2 and 3 teams that must compete at the higher level NAD. In the US it is Levels III and IV that are top, and club Levels I and II that are lower.
11.Note to all accepted teams:
- Please do not send me your TRAVEL PERMIT or your TEAM ROSTER. You must have those two documents when you arrive at the tournament to register your team. Travel Permit IS reqiered for all teams outside of Niagara Region. You MUST email me, fax me or mail me your PROGRAM ROSTER before April 20th AT THE LATEST. Your Program Roster must list AT LEAST 12 players. All program rosters will appear in our TOURNAMENT PROGRAM.
- All of our fields are in Lincoln (Beamsville, Vineland, Jordan) and West Lincoln (Smithville), with exception of 4 fields in Niagara On The Lake and possibly another 4 fields in Welland. None of our games are played on Friday.
- You may register your team on Friday evening, the day before YOUR TOURNAMENT ROUND, or you may register your team AT LEAST ONE HOUR BEFORE YOUR FIRST SCHEDULED GAME. All teams shall be registered at Lions Park in Beamsville (Lincoln), the TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS.
- If your team is competing in a 16 or 12 team divisions, they may be playing a maximum of 3 games on a Saturday and up to 3 more on a Sunday. All preliminary round games are played on a Saturday. Quarter finals, semi finals and finals shall be played on a Sunday. The crossover knockout games played between 2nd place and 3rd place teams, in a division of 12 teams (on Saturday) ARE NOT QUARTER FINALS. They are preliminary round games.
12.All mini-soccer applicants should be aware that this is a competitive (rep) tournament that also allows the recreational divisions to participate as noted on the OSA approved application. To make the divisions more interesting at the Under 10 level, we are spliting the teams into two divisions in an attempt to keep the lower level teams away from the elite teams - the number one teams from larger clubs. The Under 9 is the entry level, so we are not able to divide the teams for that division as the teams have no previous meaningfull record.
13.Please note that the U16 boys or girls divisions will be split in the Ontario and North American Divisions only if there are at least 8 teams available for EACH division. Otherwise the division will run as North American only.
14.Schedules, Field Directions and Maps may be downloaded from HANDOUTS herein after Friday April 21st, 2008. Game Sheet, Rules, Results from Previous Year's Tournaments, etc may also be retreived from HANDOUTS. Click on Hotel Information to view available accomodation for your team during the tournament. Field Maps shall be updated for all games by April 20th.
15.MESSAGE TO SRSL TEAMS. West Niagara Invitational is a pre-season tournament. You do not need to list it as one of the 3 planned tournaments on your SRSL Team Application Form as it does not interfere with the SRSL League or Cup Schedule.
16. Guest Players - Players from another club are considered GUEST PLAYERS and you are allowed to use up to three of them on your team during the tournament (with properly registered documents and permission from the other club). All players from YOUR CLUB are eligable to play on your team if they play in a weaker or younger division or the house league system (with proper registration), provided that such player(s) are not playing for another team in the same tournament. Your team is allowed to use up ho 50% of other players from your club on your TEAM ROSTER, provided they qualify as per instructions noted in this item.
17,Generally but not always, the teams are scheduled to play on the following fields: U14 boys and girls divisions - Niagra-On-The-Lake fields, all other boys and girls divisions are scheduled to play on one of our 24 fields in the Town of Lincoln, the Town of West Lincoln and Welland. ALL 2006 GIRLS AND BOYS DIVISION RESULTS ARE POSTED ON THE HANDOUTS PAGE HEREIN.
A big 'Thank You' to all 412 teams that participated in the 2006 West Niagara Invitational Soccer Tournament. Further thanks to all those that helped running the event on May 6, 7, 13 and 14.
My apologies to those teams that had to be moved to spare fields on May 13th as fields SL1 and SL2 were shut down by the town's rec and parks department that morning due to the fields not recovering in time from a downpour on Thursday. Further apologies to boys teams that played 2 games May 6th on field BHE before we were notified that the nets were stolen during the night before the tournament.
I must express my disappointment at the boys teams that contributed to the 3 Special Incident Reports. They know who they are, and they will not be welcome to this tournament as long as I am involved.
Otherwise, the Weather Gods were good to us during the tournament, and most participants and supporters enjoyed them selves while getting reacquainted with some old friends and making some new ones.
John Miljan, Chair

The 2004 West Niagara Invitational has come to a successfull conclusion. The weather became a challenge with a huge downpour that started around 6am and contined to 8am on Sunday morning of the Girls tournament round, thus placing approximatelly 3cm of water on the fields in that short period of time. We met the challenge by playing ALL of the scheduled games.
Special thanks to participating referees, coaches and their staff, as well as all parents and participants for once again making this tournament a success.
Thanks also to Paul Gesse and Hamilton Sparta Sports Club, Ken Lamb and Niagara on the Lake Soccer Club, and Caroline Copeland and West Lincoln Soccer Club for their support during the tournament. Further thanks go out to members of Licoln Soccer Club Annette and Derek Carter, Michael Phillpot, Mandi Libera, Dave Reid and all others for their roles during the event.
Most of all, a big thank you to my wife Christine and daughters Paula and Zandra for many hours of work and for putting up with me during the demanding organizational period leading up to this event and during the event it self.
Until next year,
John Miljan
West Niagara Invitational Chair

A big thank you to all participating Boys and Girls teams of 2002 West Niagara Invitational soccer tournament. With your support this tournament has grown into one of the largest youth soccer tournaments in Ontario.
Special thanks to Hamilton Sparta Sports Club, Niagara-On-The-Lake Soccer Club and West Lincoln Soccer Club for their support and use of their facilities.

And, last but not least, congratulations to all 2002 tournament Champions, Finalists and semi-finalists.
