Westlake Varsity Volleyball finished 28-9 for the 2011 season. It was an exciting and challenging season that had WHS playing against 16 different opponents who would end the year with 20+ match winning seasons. Some rally scoring era records were set this year. Shawna Korshavn set a single season school assists record with 1035 assists for the year. She is the only setter to surpass one thousand assists at WHS since rally scoring began in 2003. Congrats as well to Julia Mannisto. Julia set a single season school kill record with 357 kills this year. She also broke the single season ace record ending the year with 65 aces. Julia is only a sophomore. Shawna Korshavn, Julia Mannisto, and Courtney Birkett were voted All Marmonte League 1st Team by the coaches. Paige Harris was voted to the third team.

Congrats to the Varsity team. They won the 21st Annual Las Vegas Invitational Volleyball Tournament, August 26-27th. There were 40 teams competing from multiple states. After going 3-1 in pool play, Westlake swept through the playoffs without losing a set in any match, defeating Clovis High School, Skyline, Green Valley, and finally Bonanza High School for the gold division championship. The tournament MVP was Westlake setter Shawna Korshavn. Outside Hitters Julia Mannisto and Courtney Birkett were named to the All-Tournament team.
Westlake finished the tournament with 7 wins and 1 loss. The one loss came to Bonanza High School in pool play. The same team that eventually matched up with Westlake in the championship game. Bonanza did not lose any sets in any games of the entire two day tournament, until Westlake swept them in the championship match 25-21, 25-23.
Congrats to the JV girls volleyball team for winning the Camarillo High School JV Tournament on October 1st. Although Simi had previously defeated them earlier in the season, we beat them by two points in the semi-finals, then defeated Bishop Alemany in the finals. Jaqueline Lane, Micah Bergsma, and Blaire Consales made the all tournament team. Great job by the JV team, picking up another 6 wins by going undefeated for the tournament! Congrats to the Varsity team for their Gold Division runner up finish at the 26 team Hilltop Invitational Tournament in San Diego on October 8th. After going undefeated in pool play, there were exciting come-from-behind wins versus Eastlake and Otay Ranch High Schools to advance to the finals. Westlake finished 5-1 for the tournament.
