Frequently Asked Questions

How does player/team assignment work?

Both T Ball (kindergarteners) and Coach Pitch (1st graders) are assigned based on school/neighborhood location, usually combining two schools per team.

C Ball – Assigned based on school/neighborhood location (usually combining two schools per team) and on player ratings from previous year.

B minor – Assigned by draft held in February/March.

B Major – Assigned by draft held in February.

A – Assigned by draft held in February.

What is “Little League Age”?- Effective for the 2006 season, Little League International changed the date used to determine a player's age to April 30th.  "League Age” is the child’s age on April 30th of the current year.  The player's age is used to determine which league level to play in.  See “Divisions of Play.”

Can my child play in a level different from his/her “league” age? - Yes, if the child has a May, June, July or August birthday, he/she can play up a level to join grade level classmates.  Players are also allowed to play down a level with their classmates if they desire.  These exceptions are subject to General Manager and Player Agent approval.

Who plays where?

T Ball – Sereda, Forest Hills, Springdale North, Laidlaw and Ridge Acres Parks

C Ball – South field at Springdale and the C North Field at Spring Rock Park

B minor – Field Park and C South field at Spring Rock Park

B Major – B West and B East Fields at Spring Rock Park

A – A Field (field with lights) at Spring Rock Park and Citipark in Countryside and Pleasant Dale Park.

What are the roles of the manager and coaches? - Managers are the leaders of each team and make decisions regarding practice schedule, team strategy, lineup, etc.  Their presence is important at almost all games and practices.  Coaches assist the managers at practices and games.  Managers and Coaches are also role models for the players.  Managers and Coaches respect the decisions of the umpires.

How are managers and coaches selected? - Managers and coaches are approved by the WSLL Board based on recommendations from the General Managers and Player Agent.  Parents wishing to be considered for a manager or coaching position must complete an application by November 1st for levels B minor, B Major and A only and at registration for T and C levels.

Many factors are used in selecting coaches, including, but not limited to:

- Past experience as a manager or coach in the program (demonstrates good sportsmanship, has ability to teach baseball skills, treats players fairly…)

  • Compliance with WSLL procedures (attendance at manager and safety meetings, timeliness with turning in rating statistics, game summary forms, ratings, Good Sport award information, equipment…);
  • Ability to commit appropriate time to the team/program and has shown commitment the past (attends all games, holds regular practices, volunteers to assist WSLL in other ways);
  • Communicates effectively with players, parents and the Board; and
  • Age of children in the program.

  • How are all-star traveling teams selected? - WSLL selects two all-star travel teams for each age level for ages 10, 11 and 12 and also one 9 year old team.  The selection is made by a consensus of the league coaches, General Manager and Player Agent.  Try outs are conducted for the 9, 10 and 11 year olds to assist in this process.  Coaches nominate players from each team to try out.  These teams play in one or more tournaments in July.  Players must play at the level as determined using the date of April 30th.  For example, a player born June 30th, 1995 is eligible for the 10 year old team for the 2006 season.  A player born on April 30, 2005 is eligible for the 11 year old team.
