Western Carolina Soccer Academy: FAQs
1. Q: What are the Facilities at Western Carolina University Like?
A: In a word Awesome! Campers stay in large dorm rooms on the WCU campus. Training sessions are held at the WCU Soccer facilities: 3 Bermuda grass lighted fields. Housing, facilities and cafeteria are located within 100 yards of each other – so there are no long walks! In addition, Reid Gymnasium houses 4 full court gyms in the event of inclement weather, a swimming pool, bowling alley and a ping pong room. The cafeteria has a wide selection and is all-you-can eat.
2. Q: What is the Camper to Staff Ratio at Western Carolina Soccer Academy?
A: It's outstanding - 10:1. And, the coaches are tremendous! Which include the WCU Coaching staff and a group of top college, ODP, club, and High School coaches from across the USA. In addition, the current Catamount Soccer players assist the head coaches as counselors, put on daily demonstrations, and chaperone the campers in the dorm and to/from the field.
3. Q: What does each camper receive?
A: Each camper receives a Western Carolina Soccer Academy T-shirt and a WCSA knapsack. Elite campers receive a written evaluation on their performance from a staff coach. Also, skills, tournament and team prizes are awarded each week of camp.
4. Q: Does the REQUIRED physical need to be from a physician/doctor?
A: Yes. The Western Carolina Soccer Academy’s Elite curriculum is physically demanding and we want to ensure that all of the campers are physically able to participate without placing themselves in serious medical danger. In the best interest of a camper’s welfare we will NOT allow players to participate in any activities if they have not turned in their medical and insurance waiver prior to the start of camp. It is OK to send in a copy of your school's medical form if it is less than 1 year old and has been signed by your physician.MEDICAL/LIABILITY WAIVER ALSO REQUIRED – DOWNLOAD NOW!

5. Q: What are the airport options and can my child be picked up at the airport?
A: Campers can request shuttle service to/from Asheville Regional Airport (AVL). You must notify us with all flight information as soon as you’ve confirmed your reservation. A member of our staff will be at the airport and easy to locate. Camp shuttles only operate on the first day of camp for pick up and the final day of camp for drop offs. Other airports within personal driving distance: Greenville/Spartanburg (GSP) 1:30 away; Hartsfield Atlanta (ATL) 2:30 away.
6. Q: Does Western Carolina Soccer Academy offer a Team Camp?
A: We provide special accommodations to teams at all of our sessions. If 12+ members of your team sign up to attend the same session we will provide an outstanding coaching staff to train that group as a team. So, in addition to the great soccer curriculum that we always provide to our campers, teams get to also work on team concepts on the field, while bonding and being together in the dorm.
7. Q: Do Goalkeepers Receive Position Specific Training?
A: Yes. WCSA offers a Goalkeeper Academy during both Elite camps. The curriculum of the WCSA Goalkeeper Academy is outstanding. The training is dynamic, challenging, and comprehensive. Campers are exposed to the proper skills and attitudes needed to succeed at the highest levels. The Goalkeeper Academy is coordinated with the curriculum of the field players, allowing the goalkeepers to be challenged both individually and in daily games and training sessions. In addition, our GK coaches will be on hand to provide evaluations throughout each game.
8. Q: What Happens if a Camper Becomes Sick or Injured During Camp?
A: WCSA has constant medical supervision, which includes athletic trainers at all sites during the duration of camp, as well as a trainer that resides in the dorms in case of emergency. In addition, we have use of WCU’s training room at the Soccer Stadium, as well as Harris Regional Hospital 6 miles from campus if needed.
9. Q: Do Campers Need Spending Money at Camp?
A: Campers can purchase several items during the rest breaks and evening times. We offer a snack shop with T-shirts, souvenirs, drinks, pizza, and other light snacks. A camp bank is provided and recommended during residential camps. Parents and campers can deposit funds in the bank at registration, and then withdraw money as needed. All unused funds are returned at the close of camp.
