Bruins Squad Leads As Shinning "Stars" This Past Weekend
The Boys have gone above and beyond the call of duty again as the players of the West End Bruins MAA Club volunteered more then 70+ hours this weekend at the Annual Norwest Peewee/Bantam "Stars of Tomorrow" Hockey Tournament at the Fort William First Nations Arena. A total of 15 out of 17 players worked 3-8 hour shifts from 9am-7pm Friday and 9am-3pm Saturday lending a hand to the Norwest Admin, helping make the weekend a success according to one member. The players were described as a "Fine group of young men" and "did not hesitate to jump in". The organizers feel that the players recognize that without volunteers, hockey organizations and other non-profit organizations would be unable to function.
Something that is even more impressive is that they didn't just show up to lend a hand, but that they owned the experience. The Bruins asked for microphones and began playing music in-between play stoppages, they announced goals and assists and more then likely made the experience for the players memorable, after all what 11-14 year old doesn't love to hear their name over the loud speaker.
This Volunteer opportunity was drawn up by the players at the team retreat back in the fall. A block of time was allotted for community involvement where the players tossed out ideas and discussed as a team, what would be the best angles of approach. To date, through two trips to the Shelter House and this past weekend at the Tournament, the Club has volunteered in excess of 240 man hours.
The Players of the 2011/2012 West End Bruins MAA Team have done their Organization, Coaches & Parents proud once again, they do a stand up job representing the Bruins colours.
