COACHES CORNER...(Comments from Coach at end of each week!)

   STAY TUNED!!!

ANSWER TO LAST WEEK'S SURVEY...

The correct answer to last week's survey.. Which Bulldog walked down the aisle in a Pottstown Diner when he was 3 and smacked all of the old men on the stools butts...it was Mikey Jerminski!!!   Don't forget....anonymous users...you must answer the trivia question to us via email for credit.     Check out this week's question!

DID YOU KNOW?
In the early 1900's, in the section of West Chester once well known as Riggtown...(where our Home Ball Field is located)...Organized Team Sports...especially baseball, were extremely important in the neighborhood. The boys played pick up games at what they used to call "Reilly Field" a swampy lot of open land on the far side of the Railroad Tracks. They organized a team they called the Riggtown "Terriers" to play a team from Matlack St. called the Matlack St. "Bums". Neighbors all watched these games and even one baseball-loving father made baseball bats in his shop across from the field for all of the little ballplayers! The Parents in Riggtown got a petition together to ask the Borough to build a real baseball field on the swampy land. That field..."Greenfield Park" is still in use today! (Proudly our Home Field!!!)
After World War II, when the boys all returned home to Riggtown from the war, they formed a new Baseball Team and you'll never guess what their team name was? "The Riggtown Bulldogs!" They played on the ballfield built on the swamp...Greenfield Park!
As we play today in 2004, we are keeping the spirits of those ballplayers alive in every Home Game we play at Greenfield Park...the original home of the Riggtown Bulldogs and 60 years later, it is proudly Home to the West Chester Bulldogs!!!
Thanks so much to West Chester University's and West Chester Historian...Jim Jones for letting us use this information from an article he wrote called "A Short History of Riggtown (West Chester Pa)". Mr. Jones is even trying to get us a picture of what their uniforms looked like! Mr. Jones also wrote an article that he thought we'd all be interested in...about a man named "Sarge" Clark, a lifelong resident of Riggtown who actually got to play Semi-Pro ball and probably only missed out on the big leagues because he served in the war!   Check out the link to read all of his most interesting articles!
