West Raleigh Baseball: WR All-Star Teams
Monday, August 4West Raleigh All Stars
West Raleigh Baseball Association takes pride in teaching youngsters how to play baseball, focusing on sportsmanship, team play, and fundamental baseball skills. Each summer, age-determined All Star teams of talented players from each league (Minor, American, Nationial, and Junior) compete in various post-season tournaments, District, State, Regional, and potentially National tournaments based on league affiliation. Minor League 8-and-under (8U)teams compete in Tarheel League District and State Tournaments and Cal Ripken State and Regional Tournaments. American and National League 10U and 12U teams also compete in Tarheel League District and State tournaments. American and National League 9-year-old players, and National League 10, 11, and 12-year-olds compete in Babe Ruth Cal Ripken Division postseason play. Cal Ripken play offers District, State, and Regional competitions for ages 9U and 11U, and adds World Series play for ages 10U and 12U. West Raleigh Junior League teams compete in Tarheel League District and State Tournaments, and 13U and 14U teams play compete in Babe Ruth League postseason play, which offers District, State, Regional, and World Series competition. In 2005, West Raleigh fielded 13 different All Star Teams, all of which represented the League with class, sportsmanship, and high-caliber play, winning 5 State Championships along the way. Our 8U Cal Ripken All Stars won the Southeastern Region, and our 12U Cal Ripken All Stars once again lived every youth player's dream, winning the Southeastern Region and playing in the World Series in Aberdeen, Maryland.
West Raleigh Baseball is proud to honor the All Star teams that have done so well over the years in post-season play!

12U CAL RIPKEN US CHAMPIONS

West Raleigh is very proud of our first World Series team!
Sunday afternoon in a game nationally televised on Fox Sports Network, US Champion West Raleigh faced International Champion Mexico, which had steamrolled through their division to reach the Series final for the second straight year. West Raleigh scrapped through pool play before finally breaking through in the elimination round with some serious offense against Hawaii, to join Mexico. West Raleigh's Michael King was the lone regular pitcher left eligible for this game, so he had to pitch a complete game after pitching 12 innings in 4 days previously. He pitched a great game, holding the potent Mexico team to 4 runs. West Raleigh tied or led much of the game, and battled to the very end in a see-saw battle with the International Champion Mexico. Mexico finally prevailed, winning 4-3 scoring 2 runs in the top of the sixth.
We are all very proud of our West Raleigh boys - how they played, how they won, and how they conducted themselves. Congratulations 12's - You've made Raleigh look awfully good!
