To say Mackenzie Seebach and Kevin Murphy hit it off when they joined the Welland Harpwood's Trophies Mustangs for the third game of the midget baseball playoffs would be a bit of an understatement.
Between them the bantam callups had three bits, reached base five times and drove in two runs as the visiting Mustangs rebounded from a 7-5 loss on their home field to Stoney Creek with a 13-2 victory over St. Catharines.
Seebach, who singled twice and had two RBIs in Thursday night's must-win game, and Murphy, who got on base three times despite hitting only one single, were summoned up from the bantam ranks after the Mustangs were forced to make the road with only seven regulars.
Colton Hrcak, with two doubles, also was a force at the plate for Welland, which improved to 2-1 in post-season play heading into Monday night's game against the Dundas Tigers at Welland Stadium.
Winning pitcher Adam Crumb threw a complete-game, five-hitter, striking out nine.
Drew Pettit and Geoff Strong, each with doubles, and Will Mathieson were the only Mustangs to collect hits against Stoney Creek in Wednesday night's loss at Burgar Park.
Strong, Welland's starter, was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs on two hits and five walks.
Jon Hiller game up one run on two hits, while Mathieson limited the visitors to one run on one hit over the final three innings.
The Mustangs can clinch a trip to the finals with a win Monday night.
First pitch is set for 7.
