West Covina Shetland Red Take Their Division Championship!!!
2007 Shetland Red All-Stars
6U - Shetland Division

The West Covina Shetland Red, a.k.a. "The Big Red Crushing Machine" found their best defense game in the 37th WCYPB Invitational tournament as their offense kept spanking the ball until as it turned "West Covina RED"! Some spectators swear they heard the baseball scream, "NO MAS, NO MAS" everytime West Covina came up to bat. Team Manager Manny and all his coaches are more than pleased to see the team coming together as they put their 2nd tournament championship win in the record books. If you haven't jumped on the "Big Red" Train yet, you better get off the track and hop on as this engine is just picking up steam and isn't going to stop. They have been given the green light and their schedule is a HUGE GO to the "2007 Pony Shetland World Series". So if you hear Mr. Conductor Manny De La Torre yell out, " ALL ABOARD THE WC EXPRESS TRAIN!" You better hop on board because it's gonna be one HELLUVA RIDE!

UPDATE: July 15, 2007  The WC Shetland Red team has won the "Hardcore Districrt and Regional Tournaments" and qualified for the "Hardcore World Series." The teams they went up against were East Long Beach, Charter Oaks, Pico Boys, Tri-City, Chino Hills and many other teams. The team is now in the PONY Sanctioned District Tournament.  They are 2-0 and positioning themselves to win their pool to advance into the semi-finals.  Their record to date is an impressive 21-0-1 but the team is not taking any team lightly.  The team manager Manny said he, his coaches and his players are taking it one game at a time.

WC 12U Blue All-Stars Are For REAL!
2007 12U Blue All-Stars
12U - Bronco Division

The Boys in Blue had some incredible moments during PONY Sanctioned Bronco Tournament at Charter Oaks. On Saturday night against our nemesis Charter Oak Stars, the boys came to play. Charter Oak trying to start a rally, the Blue Crew went for one...two...three outs, TRIPLE PLAY!  Charter Oak was stunned and couldn't believe to what just happened. On the West Covina side, the bleachers erupted sending a message to all that the Boys in Blue are a force to be reckoned with. The energy from the Saturday game was still lingering in the air on Sunday. The Blue Crew bats made themselves known by loading the bases. Justin Ballesteros came up to bat. He glanced at the runners, he looked at his coach. Justin stepped into the box. The Rosemead pitcher took a breath and the pitch. "Back, back, back and It's OUTTA HERE! GRAND SLAM!"  Way to go BLUE!  Then on Monday night against Charter Oak again, The Blue Crew felt the love from West Covina. The boys sent the love back two times. Two over the fences that is. Though in the end, they came up a little short and lost. They know they have it in them to go all the way and so does everyone else.  The  WCYP
B fans and families send the love out to all our Boys that where the "WC" logo.

2007 WC Shetland Blue All-Star Boys Are Stepping It UP!
2007 Big Blue Wrecking Crew
West Covina Shetland Blue a.k.a. "Big Blue Wrecking Crew"
.6U - Shetland Division

The West Covina Shetland Blue, a.k.a. "The Big Blue Crew" is peaking at the right time of the All-Star season winning their first tournament going 5-0 at Highlander Field this past weekend. Mgr Ruben Rivera had his boys fired up and ready to go. WC Blue started the tournament off right beating our rivals from Charter Oak and a good Anaheim team Saturday morning. Sunday afternoon was more of the same, as WC Blue was too much to handle in decisive wins over Walnut and East L.A. advancing to the Championship game that night against Pico Rivera. The final game was a defensive battle just as everyone predicted. WC Blue took an early 10-4 lead into the fifth and final inning. Pico Rivera fought hard to come back and score 5 but it wasn’t enough as the Big Blue Wrecking Crew held on to win a close one 10-9 taking their first tournament championship. Great baseball was played by both teams. Watch out! There’s another team from West Covina Shetland taking names. Come out and support all the WC teams and wish the boys good luck as they prepare for Sanctions.

The Pinto 7 Red All-Stars Getting Into the Swing of Things!
2007 WC 7 Red All-Stars
West Covina 7U Red All-Stars
7U - Pinto Division

The past weekend the 7 yr old Red All-Stars went 5-0 in the TNT Chino Hills Storm Summer Showdown Tournament. Our boys swept the tournament going against Charter Oak, Valley Rebels, Corona Cougars and Chino Hills Storm twice to win the tournament. So if any one thinks they are going to have it easy for the PONY Sanctioned Tournaments, better watch out. These little 7 year old are so little anymore!

About West Covina Youth PONY Baseball
West Covina Youth Pony Baseball is a non-profit organization, run solely by volunteers. For the past 45 years we have been providing a safe place for the youth of our community to play baseball, make new friends, and of course build self-confidence and self-esteem. PONY (Protect Our Nation's Youth) Baseball has developed a tradition of service to young people. . . teaching them to play by the rules, so that they will learn to live by the rules.

Over 700 youngsters, ages 4 to 14, enjoy playing baseball in our league each year. In order to maintain a level of competitive play and provide the best instruction, we must constantly rely on the generosity of our local businesses, organizations, and families to help support our program. While all of the supervision, coaching, and labor are provided by parents and volunteers, without the support of businesses, community organizations, and families the West Covina Youth Pony Baseball League would not be the success it is today.

BASEBALL. . . during eight months of the year, it is played professionally every day; all year round amateurs play it, watch it, and dream about losing themselves in a base runner's progress around the diamond, in the elemental clash between pitcher and batter, in the outfielder's lonely vigil. Baseball produces remarkable Americans: it seizes hold of ordinary people and shapes them into something we must regard with awe. Satchel Paige, Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Joe DiMaggio, Hank Aaron, Ozzie Smith, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, not gods exactly, not even necessarily heroes, but truly gifted human beings acting out universal fantasies that, for whatever reason, are most perfectly expressed on a baseball field.

Come join our remarkable boys and girls as they continue the amazing tradition known as "West Covina Youth Pony Baseball."
