WCHS Bowling Teams: 2006-07 Post-Season
STATE RUNNER-UP FOR OUR LADYCATS!!
WHAT A DAY...no one anywhere ever talked about the Wilson Central team, but they certainly made a statement in a match that will be talked about for a long time - our semi-final match vs. Soddy Daisy! In what had to be the closest match in TSSAA State Tournament history, our LadyCats pulled out a thrilling, come-from-behind victory 14-13, with total pins tied at 2948 for each team! Sr. Traci Baker needed a strike/spare combination in the 10th frame of game three to give us the tie for total pins...if she got a double, the match would be ours outright. Her first ball was a perfect strike! The next shot was a good one...in the 1-3 pocket, but left the 4-7 pins. So, as it stood, our season came down to those last two pins. And Baker calmly stepped on the approach and made that spare like she had hundreds of times before!! WE WIN!! Asked later if she knew she needed those two pins for the victory, she said "I knew it was close, but I just wanted to make the spare." Brittany Farmer led our ladies in this match with a 567 series, including a 204 last game. Next was Baker with a nice 531 series. But the likely "heroine" of this match was Sr. Jasmine Akers, who rolled her highest game & series of the year - a 212-513 which was well over her season average!! And when you look at the fact that we had to have every single pin to get that tie, you can appreciate what a performance that was for us.
After using up all of that energy to win the semi-final, our ladies bowled well the first two games of the final, rolling team scores of 956 & 1030. But even with those good scores, we were down by 186 pins on total and 12-4 on points. And even though we weren't "mathematically" eliminated going into game 3, our ladies simply didn't have enough left to come back in this one, losing by a final count of 21-6 to the Lady Tigers of Hardin County. This is the same team that put us out of our first State Tournament appearance in 2005, that time by a 24-3 score. Still...this group of ladies, almost all of which had no prior bowling experience before joining this team, showed the most heart and determination of any team thus far at WC. Everyone involved with this team agrees that this was an experience that none of us will soon forget. THANK YOU, LadyCats, for a wonderful season and an outstanding run through the 2007 State Tournament!!!

LADYCATS WIN...Headed to the Final Four!
The WC LadyCats did it! Winning 16-11 against a young but up and coming Bartlett HS team, our girls have pushed one step closer to the coveted State Title!! Led by Sr. Traci Baker's nice 210-573, the girls stormed out with a great 1,008 game 1, winning 7 of 8 points. But the hot hands cooled quickly and we lost games 2 and 3, but won enough individual points and kept the games close enough to win the match. Pretty...no....but a VICTORY none the less!! We will face a tough Soddy-Daisy team tomorrow in the Semi-Finals - if you are a fan, PLEASE be there at 9:00am at Smyrna Lanes to cheer us on to victory!! GO LADYCATS!!!

Jere McDaniel finishes 6th in Individual State Tourney
Jere McDaniel started the finals in 4th place, but even a new ball couldn't help him overcome the very difficult "Sport" lane conditions, as he slid to a 6th place finish. Winning 3 of his 6 matches helped some, but with no big games to help out, Jere's valiant effort fell short of the title. As his coach, I know I can speak for everyone who knows Jere---and all of us say
"WAY TO GO, JERE...We are all very proud of you!" CONGRATULATIONS to Jere on a great tournament and a wonderful season!!

McDaniel qualifies 1st, Cox 7th, Baker 18th in Individual State
The first ever Individual State Bowling Tournament started today(Thursday) at Smyrna Lanes, and Wilson Central had 4 bowlers participate. In the qualifying round for the boys, Sr. Jere McDaniel had the VERY hot hand as he lead all 66 boys with a super 971 series (4 games)! Jere rolled games of 207-228-268-268 to storm to the lead. Ryan Cox also qualified for round 2 with an 881 series (189-191-266-235), good for 7th place. For the girls, Traci Baker qualified for the top 24 in 18th place with a nice 724 series (160-199-169-196), while Jr. Brittany Farmer was close, but fell just 13 pins short of the next round with a 668 series.
The next four games were bowled on a "Sport Lane Condition," where the lanes are oiled differently than usual, to put a premium on accuracy and spare shooting. The scores were a lot lower, as expected, but one WC bowler prevailed and made it to the finals - Jere McDaniel qualified 4th for the Top 6 Finals tomorrow with a 1619 total (8 games) - a 202 average. Ryan Cox just missed the finals, finishing in 9th place with a 1534. For the girls, Traci Baker ended up in 22nd place for the tournament. GOOD LUCK to Jere in the Finals!!

LadyCats finally win Sectional, are going to the Elite Eight at State!
With a very balanced team effort, our LadyCats have done it - we are headed to the Final 8 at the State Tournament!! Winning with surprising ease over Jackson Co. 21-6, the LadyCats were led by Brittany Turner with a 220 game, and Brittany Farmer with a 532 series. After two years of unsuccessful trips to the "Sweet Sixteen," the ladies are now ready for a run at the State Title!! It won't be easy, and it will take a total team effort - but these girls know how to turn it on when they need a win.
The State Finals for our ladies will start next Friday, January 25th, at 9:00am at Smyrna Bowling Center. To all of our fans out there...make plans to join us and cheer us on to more glory at the STATE!! WAY TO GO, LADYCATS!!!

LADYCATS ARE REGION 5 CHAMPS!!
For the 2nd year in a row, the Wilson Central LadyCats are Region 5 Champions!! In the first round match on Tuesday, Amanda Moore rolled a 235 game to lead the LadyCats to an easy 18-9 victory over Hume-Fogg HS. All the subs got to bowl game 3, as the starters rolled to a 270-pin lead after two games. Then came Day 2...
In the semi-final match against Centennial HS, our LadyCats started very slowly. Losing game one 6-2, things didn't look good. But the ladies responded with a nice 948 game, and took 7 of 8 points to take a lead they would not relinquish. Leading the way in this match was Amanda Moore again, with a nice 192-502. Final score WC 19 - 8. Now, the finals...
Against the McGavock Girls-undoubtedly our toughest opponent of the year (so far)-the LadyCats needed to have a good match - and proved that they were up to the challenge! Led by Brittany Farmer & Amanda Moore's dual 202's in game 1, the ladies rolled a great 1,016 game and took 6 of 8 points to start the match. They never looked back, winning the final 20-7!! Farmer led with a 546 series, Amanda Moore with a 529, and Traci Baker with a 520, the girls rolled a 2,846 total. A great performance even with Farmer battling a leg injury, and Jasmine Akers hurting her ankle in the semis, this one is a match these ladies will remember for a long time. Now it is on to the Sectional event on Saturday, January 20th.
GO LADYCATS!!
